"Don't worry, I stewed a big pot, enough for everyone."
Having received Fang Qiao's approval, Wang Yun found a large bowl and poured all the fish soup from the lunchbox into her own. She then took Fang Qiao's lunchbox to the sink, washed it clean, and returned it to her.
"I'm leaving now."
"Let's go, I'll come find you to hang out another day."
After taking the cleaned lunchbox, Fang Qiao didn't linger and turned to leave.
When I got home, the food was already on the table, and we were just waiting for Fang Qiao to come home so we could eat.
"Are you getting impatient? Come on, let's eat." Fang Qiao washed her hands at the water pipe and hurried into the house.
After dinner, Fang Qiao and Xiao Jing cleaned up the dishes and went to wash them.
Sweetie clung to Cheng Baidong and asked him, "Uncle, are you going to the police station to transfer my household registration later?"
Cheng Baidong patted her little head and nodded, saying, "Yes."
"Can you take me with you?" Sweetie looked at him expectantly. "I want to go too."
Cheng Baidong said, "It's a bit sunny outside now, and it will be very hot when we have to stand in the sun to queue."
"I'm not afraid of the heat or the sun!" Sweetie held Cheng Baidong's hands tightly, swaying them from side to side while pleading, "Uncle, please take me! Please take me!"
Cheng Baidong: "Then tell your uncle a reason why you absolutely have to go!"
"Because I don't want to be called Su Tang, I want to be called Cheng Tangtang! Tangtang as in crabapple!" Tian Tian said seriously, "I won't feel at ease until I see the name being corrected!"
"Is Sweetie worried about her uncle?"
Sweetie gave a soft snort: "You adults have such bad memories! I'm worried about you!"
She knew all along that her mother had named her Tang, the Tang of crabapple blossom, but when her uneducated, wicked father registered her household registration, he couldn't remember how to write that character, so the person handling the registration just wrote it as the Tang of candy.
The sugar in candy isn't bad, but in her heart, the crabapple's crabapple is the best.
Because the character "棠" in "海棠" (Haitang) was given to her by her mother, she wanted to use the name her mother gave her.
"Alright, since our sweetie wants to see her name changed in person, then Uncle will take you with him." Cheng Baidong tapped her forehead and asked with a smile, "Are you satisfied now, my little darling?"
"Satisfied!"
Sweetie nodded emphatically, a smile spreading across her face.
When she received the transferred household registration booklet, Tian Tian looked at the familiar three characters 'Cheng Tangtang' on the page, and her smile became even brighter.
On the way home, Tian Tian sat on the back of the bicycle. She hugged Cheng Baidong's waist, looked up at him earnestly, and said, "Uncle, I've changed my name. Please don't call me by my nickname in front of outsiders anymore."
"Then what should I call you?" Cheng Baidong asked with a smile, teasing her on purpose.
Sweetie puffed out her chest, tilted her chin up, and said, "Call me Cheng Tangtang!"
“Okay, Cheng Tangtang.” Cheng Baidong readily agreed.
'Uh…' Upon hearing the address she wanted to hear, a conflicted look appeared on Sweetie's face.
Cheng Baidong deliberately asked, "What's wrong, Cheng Tangtang?"
"It's so strange, Uncle. It sounds like I'm hearing someone else's name." Sweetie frowned, covered her face, and said, "But I'm so happy."
Cheng Baidong smiled, the wind blowing his stray hairs, his eyes gentle.
He held the handlebars with one hand, freeing the other to reach behind and accurately cover the little girl's head, ruffling her hair and saying affectionately, "You'll get used to it after a few more days."
The bicycle wobbled as a result.
Sweetie screamed in fright, clinging tightly to Cheng Baidong's waist, and complained, "Uncle! Ride your bike properly! Don't hold the handlebars with one hand! And don't touch my hair!"
Cheng Baidong chuckled: "Your uncle won't fall down!"
"That won't do!" Sweetie insisted, "You have to be serious when riding a bike!"
Cheng Baidong compromised: "Okay, okay, Uncle is serious."
"Uncle, my dear!"
Sweetie adopted a posture of educating An'an.
Cheng Baidong shook his head with a helpless smile.
Next, Tian Tian tilted her head and thought for a while before deciding, "Uncle."
"Um?"
“At home, you can continue to call me Sweetie. When I start elementary school, you can call me Cheng Tangtang! Otherwise, my classmates in the preschool class won't recognize me. Just like Chou Ni, she was called Li Shuangshuang in the preschool class! But apart from the teacher, no one calls her Li Shuangshuang, everyone still calls her Chou Ni.”
Sweetie said, "So I'll wait until I start elementary school to change my name. Then I can just tell my new classmates that my name is Cheng Tangtang, and no one will get it wrong."
“Okay.” Cheng Bodong naturally agreed with her.
Cheng Baidong drove Tiantian home, then switched shifts with Fang Qiao, staying home to look after the child while Fang Qiao took Xiao Jing out on her bicycle.
The scrap yard is a bit far from the residential compound; it's behind Yushui Middle School. You have to cross several streets, pass an ironworks, a hospital, a high school, an elementary school, and then go around to the back of the middle school.
The scrap yard itself is a large courtyard, which has been built into a tall shed with brick walls, wooden pillars, and a tiled roof. Inside, various scrap items are neatly categorized and piled up.
Near the main entrance, a large wolfhound was tied with a rope. Next to it was a pile of large pieces of scrap metal, followed by smaller pieces of broken bicycle parts, tires, and motors. There were also tables and chairs missing parts, and even pots and pans with large holes. As for Fang Qiao and Xiao Jing's target—broken notebooks and books—they were piled up into a small mountain in the northwest corner.
Before coming to the scrap yard, Fang Qiao had some illusions about it, hoping she might be able to find something worthwhile. But once she arrived, she realized there was nothing to be found!
