Chapter 79 Memorandum
The first day of the new year brings a fresh start to everything.
In the early hours of the morning, the night was especially lively, with fireworks blooming all over the city.
Light streamed into the room through the gaps in the curtains. Li Jichuan looked up from his laptop, paused for a moment, then turned his head to look at Su Pu's sleeping face, which was illuminated by various lights.
The explosion symbolizes rebirth; people are eager to break free from the old year, and the whole city is new and moving forward.
That night, Li Jichuan dreamed of a bus filled with roses. They were all sitting on it, and the bus kept moving forward, passing through flower fields and cities, and through streets and alleys.
In a moment, he looked around in his dream and realized that Su Pu was not in the car.
He squeezed through the rose bushes, poked his head out the window, and saw Su Pu running behind the bus.
Su Pu waved to them as he ran.
The poor little mute boy couldn't make a sound. His pants had several holes in them, and he was filthy, probably because he had fallen down.
Li Jichuan anxiously called for the bus to stop, but the bus kept driving forward, and all the passengers were laughing.
"Stop, wait, wait, Su Pu—"
Li Jichuan shouted loudly, but no one paid any attention.
Time kept moving forward, the bus kept going forward, and only Su Pu was left behind...
...
The nightmare seemed endless, but when Li Jichuan woke up and checked the time, it was only a little past three in the morning.
The sky outside the window remained dark, with a few fireworks occasionally bursting into bloom in the distance.
Unable to fall asleep again, Li Jichuan left the family bed, sat in his wheelchair, and moved to Su Pu's bedside.
Su Pu slept soundly, clutching the little bear.
This is his fourth day in the hospital, but his condition is still not improving. Doctors have come to see him, and even specially invited experts have examined him, but everyone is at a loss.
If the heart is sick, where can you find the medicine?
We can only wait.
Waiting for a miracle, or worse, waiting for time to pass and this life to end.
But it's not without its advantages.
Li Jichuan discovered that Su Pu no longer has nightmares.
However, Su Pu always cuddled the bear and slept day and night, as if he hadn't slept in a long time.
Li Jichuan really wanted to know why this bear had such great magic power, and why it had to be this one.
If the toys were replaced with puppy, rabbit, or kitten toys, Su Pu wouldn't even glance at them.
However, whenever he took advantage of Su Pu's lucidity to hand him the phone and ask him to explain his reasons...
Su Pu held the phone, looking blank, as if she had no idea what it was for.
Su Pu seems to have even forgotten how to type...
According to the doctor's assessment, Su Pu's mental age is probably only seven or eight years old, or even younger.
They were all unfamiliar adults to him.
Thinking of this, Li Jichuan felt an unprecedented sense of crisis rising in his heart, and he would shake Su Pu's arm from time to time to tell him.
"Your name is Su Pu, you're 24 years old, and you'll be 25 after the New Year. You have a job you love, you can make really good coffee, and you have two good friends, one named Ouyang and the other named Pei Zhicheng..."
"Most importantly, you're married. Your husband's name is Li Jichuan. He loves you very much, and he can't live without you..."
Su Pu was dazed and confused. After a while, her eyelids started to droop again.
She rolled over, hugged the bear, and fell asleep.
Li Jichuan reflected that there was too much information in this passage, so Su Pu would naturally feel tired.
So he leaned down, got close to Su Pu, and kissed her on the cheek.
Then, he spoke very softly to Su Pu, this time only focusing on the key points.
"Su Pu, I am your husband, Li Jichuan... Don't forget me."
After a while, he realized how silly he had been.
How childish! Is he even eight years old?
Li Jichuan chuckled and lowered his head to continue working.
Snap—
A few drops of water fell on the back of his hand and the keyboard. Li Jichuan wiped his face and said with a smile.
Su Pu, you must never forget me.
Please, I beg you.
...
Early on New Year's Day, Uncle Wang arrived, carrying a nutritious breakfast that Mantian and Changchang had carefully prepared.
"They wanted to come and visit me, but the doctor said I needed to rest, so I didn't let them come..."
Uncle Wang chuckled as he muttered to himself, taking out the packaged food from the bag and spreading it on Su Pu's small table.
The small table quickly became full, and Uncle Wang touched the nose of the little person sitting blankly on the bed.
"Let's see if there's anything you like to eat today, you skinny little monkey."
Su Pu blinked slowly. "Little skinny monkey," he thought, "I feel like I've heard that name somewhere before."
That day, Su Pu's appetite suddenly increased, and he ate half a bowl of porridge and two red bean buns.
The red bean buns were shaped like little pigs and were a bit hot. Su Pu pinched the little pig's hoof with her fingertips, and her eyes crinkled as she looked at them.
He moved his hand so that his little bear could also see the piggy bag.
But in the end, both buns ended up in his mouth. The little bear could only look, not eat.
Thinking of this, Su Pu smiled smugly again.
After a hearty meal, the little mute boy's condition visibly improved.
Taking advantage of the bright morning sun, Su Pu basked in the sun while hugging the bear, while Li Jichuan held his phone and tried again.
"Xiao Pu, what's my name?"
Su Pu stared at the phone in horror. It was too complicated, and he was afraid of breaking it, so he didn't dare touch it.
"..."
Li Jichuan returned empty-handed once again, holding his phone and swiping twice with his fingertips.
Surprisingly, it unlocked successfully; the phone didn't have a password.
With a dazed look, he glanced at the little mute boy, who was dozing off again, and then looked back at his phone.
He hovered his fingertip above the screen for a moment, then clicked on Su Pu's memo.
When is my husband coming home? I miss him...
Unexpectedly, the first thing he saw made him envious.
Following the little mute's long, drawn-out breaths, Li Jichuan continued to slide down.
Unlike the notes he wrote to his grandfather, Su Pu's notes to himself were more casual.
It contains the recipe for the new coffee, Li Jichuan's training data, the birthdays and preferences of the household servants...
His emotions were also mixed in, but it would take Li Jichuan a long time to find a spot.
The warm sunlight shone on the two people in the ward, and their steady breathing was suddenly broken by two muffled sobs.
Li Jichuan bit the back of his hand, flipping through the pages repeatedly. So this is what Su Pu's world is like...
This guy is such an idiot...
Li Jichuan always thought he understood Su Pu: his personality, his preferences, his passions and pursuits, and the nightmares that shrouded him in an impenetrable fog.
However, these are only the tip of the iceberg regarding Su Pu.
The memo recorded Supu standing on the back of the sun, Supu that none of them had ever seen.
Su Pu really missed her grandfather. After her grandfather passed away, Su Pu would still write to him and regularly update him on the situation of his beloved grandson.
Su Pu felt guilty for not being able to help her husband and for making him bear so much pressure alone.
Su Pu was heartbroken that she didn't have a UK visa and there wasn't enough time to apply for one.
Su Pu really wanted to win the coffee competition, and he hated that he couldn't speak.
Su Pu is jealous of Su Hui and hopes that Su Hui will suffer.
He also disliked a regular customer who always stared at his butt. Every time that person came, Su Pu would make an excuse to go to the bathroom, then squat on the floor of the lounge, pretending to be a mushroom.
Su Pu dared not tell anyone who she missed, who she hated, or what her wishes were.
He was afraid of burdening others and also afraid that his expectations would not be met.
Su Pu hoped that Li Jichuan could be less busy, that Li Jichuan could smile at him more, and that he liked it when Li Jichuan suddenly leaned in and kissed him.
Su Pu is actually afraid of psychological counseling and is terrified of things she can't remember.
I am also terrified that I don't know how many things I have forgotten.
Su Pu loves the new clothes in his wardrobe and always wants to dress up nicely before going out. But every time he dresses up nicely, he hears a voice mocking him, saying that he is ugly and shameful.
Su Pu didn't want to look ugly, nor did she want to embarrass him, so she never wore those clothes.
In the summer, Su Pu really wanted to ask him to go to the fireworks festival together, but she was afraid that he was too busy and that her request would be meaningless.
In the end, he chose to go to the school to help him collect questionnaire data.
Supu thus missed the last fireworks display of last summer.
Su Pu's mother was wicked. But he still missed her.
Su Pu's thoughts were so trivial, intricate, and meticulous.
They intertwined and wove together, forming a net that Su Pu could not escape, tightly wrapping him inside.
Li Jichuan then understood the crux of the problem: because the little mute never spoke, he assumed that the little mute was like them and had the same emotions.
But Su Pu's world is more fragile than anyone else's.
Because he didn't own much, he wanted to hold onto every single thing he had tightly.
Therefore, damage is difficult to erase, and loss is difficult to repair.
They were all busy experiencing, busy growing, busy overcoming all obstacles, galloping forward on horseback.
Time keeps moving forward, and the bus keeps driving forward.
Only Su Pu remained.
Only Su Pu remained where he was, picking up the roses they had dropped.
