Chapter 91

Chapter 91

The air was damp after the rain. The morning sun shone softly through the mist, casting a faint golden glow on the boy's handsome face.

Ran Xian, who had received a divination call, stared at his phone repeatedly, his gaze somewhat confused and disoriented.

After a moment of hesitation, he frowned and dialed the number again.

This time, the phone's notification sound indicated that the owner had turned off the device.

Ran Xian narrowed his eyes, and almost immediately he muttered "shameless" under his breath. However, he did not intend to give up and dialed again from a different number.

Soon, Jiang Chen, who had just collapsed onto the bed, felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.

He glanced at the screen, then at the sleeping Jin Chuwan, a hint of annoyance showing in his dark eyes. However, he still mustered a little patience and put the phone to his ear.

Soon, Ran Xian's slightly restrained voice came through the phone.

"I have other things to do right now."

As Ran Xian spoke, he loosened the bow tie at his collar. Car lights flashed around him, and the young man's slender figure disappeared into the morning mist.

"So, in any case, please take care of Jin Chuwan for me for now, and also tell her that I'll come over as soon as I'm done with this..."

Just as Ran Xian finished speaking, the phone went dead.

He was hung up on again.

Ran Xian remained silent for a while while on the phone, but finally couldn't resist kicking the tire.

"This person has no manners..."

Ran Xian frowned, and it took him a while to compose himself.

Almost simultaneously, Jiang Chen was also looking down at Jin Chuwan.

He put his phone on silent and tossed it aside.

The IV drip was still running, and the room was quiet, with only long, steady breathing.

To this day, Jiang Chen still doesn't know why Jin Chuwan chose to be with Ran Xian. She's clearly not the kind of person who's just looking for a new romance, and he doesn't believe she genuinely likes that arrogant young master.

so.

Why?

It couldn't possibly be that he just randomly chose someone to avoid him, could it?

Jiang Chen thought to himself, then raised his fingers to brush aside Jin Chuwan's hair, which was soaked with sweat.

The boy's eyes were dark and deep, yet his movements were restrained and gentle.

Slightly lifting the light-colored gauze curtain, Jiang Chen felt an untimely chill in the air and sighed before standing up again.

The pale sunlight, hidden in the thin mist, gradually became clearer and brighter as time passed. In less than half a day, the puddles left on the road last night seemed to have never existed.

When Jin Chuwan opened her eyes again, it was already noon.

The IV drip by the bedside has been removed, and the room still smells of disinfectant.

She propped herself up and sat up. The heaviness she had felt earlier had subsided considerably. She stared blankly at the air for a while before her thoughts gradually cleared.

"woke up?"

The sudden sound made Jin Chuwan abruptly raise her head.

Her door was opened at some point, but standing in front of her was an unusually haggard Xia Zhihe.

The usually dashing young man now looked like a dejected, homeless dog; his tie was crooked, his buttons were on backwards, and a section of his shirt was draped over his shoulder.

However, he didn't seem to care much. He reached into his pocket as if looking for cigarettes, but couldn't find any, and looked even more dejected.

"I'm being honest." The man said, glancing back as if casually, "I thought that handsome young man from last time was pretty good. Why don't you just dump Jiang Chen? In this pouring rain, is it worth it for a young girl to get sick just to see him?"

Jin Chuwan was speechless for a moment, and just as she was about to speak, she was interrupted by a sigh.

"I admit, the young master of the Jiang family is good-looking, but is he good to you?"

"Listen to your brother, this kind of rich kid will only use you as a pastime. Kick him out of here and get him out of here..."

The man before her spoke eloquently, and Jin Chuwan keenly sensed the resentment and curses in his words. Looking at his expectant gaze, she felt bewildered and somewhat amused.

Xia Zhihe had clearly misunderstood something. He seemed to have some grievances he had nowhere to vent, and now he was trying to find a way to make Jiang Chen unhappy as well.

Jin Chuwan suddenly felt that if she continued to remain silent, he might continue to let his thoughts wander, so she had no choice but to explain.

"You've misunderstood... I caught a chill and had a slight fever last night, it wasn't because I was heartbroken or abandoned..."

After Jin Chuwan finished speaking, Xia Zhihe finally shut his mouth.

"And I've wanted to say this before: Jiang Chen and I grew up together, but we're not in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship."

As Jin Chuwan spoke, she lifted the covers and got out of bed. She had recovered a lot, but her voice was still a little hoarse.

Xia Zhihe had only just begun to express his emotions and hadn't even fully developed when he habitually raised his hand to push up his glasses, forgetting that he had left them on the washstand.

"So that's how it is..."

The man's voice grew softer and softer, and his gaze began to wander. Just as he was pondering how to ease his embarrassment, a cold voice suddenly came from behind him.

What are you doing here?

Xia Zhihe's face was ashen; he leaned against the door as if he had collapsed.

"Can I come and check on how the patient who had to endure being drunk to come see me in the middle of the night is recovering?"

Upon hearing this, Jin Chuwan immediately felt a little guilty. She scratched her neck and then looked uncomfortably toward the door.

"Um... thank you for your help last night."

At this moment, Jiang Chen also walked in. He glanced at Xia Zhihe and then placed the lunch he had brought on the table.

"Ignore him. He's not working for nothing. Besides, he doesn't do anything productive. He's always either at bars or hooking up with women..."

Jiang Chen's words clearly hurt Xia Zhihe, who immediately frowned and retorted sternly, "You can't badmouth me in front of girls just because you can't find a girlfriend, okay?"

Jiang Chen didn't even glance at him, only responding with an extremely cold smile.

He put down the tray he was holding, walked to Jin Chuwan's side, and only relaxed a little after confirming that her fever had subsided.

"Are you hungry? Eat something first."

Jin Chuwan paused for a moment, then nodded. Jiang Chen's politeness and attentiveness made her feel a little uncomfortable, but refusing would seem too petty or childish.

"Thanks."

Kim Chuwan was at the table, both in front of and under it.

The two people inside didn't seem to be leaving. Jin Chuwan looked back and saw that the two were huddled together, seemingly talking about something she couldn't hear. Just as she was about to ask them to go outside to talk, Jiang Chen suddenly turned his head again.

"Oh, right, about the key. I've already contacted a locksmith, and someone will come over at four o'clock this afternoon to take care of it. I'll go back with you then."

Jin Chuwan nodded. Mentioning this incident made her feel depressed again. How could she be so stupid as to forget her keys?

It's better to use smart locks in the future.

"Um, is Aunt Hui here?" Seeing Jiang Chen's puzzled look, Jin Chuwan explained, "I want to borrow some clothes from her."

She was still wearing her pajamas from last night, which were wrinkled and clinging to her body after a night of sweating, making her very uncomfortable.

Jiang Chen seemed to have noticed this as well. He coughed lightly and then whispered.

"Eat something first, I'll bring it to you later."

After Jiang Chen finished speaking, he pushed open the door and went out, but he didn't forget to take Xia Zhihe with him when he left.

Before the door closed, Jin Chuwan heard muffled wails coming from outside, something like "forgetting loyalty for lust" or "two-faced".

However, she didn't pay much attention to it. After quickly washing up in the bathroom, she returned to her room to have lunch. To be honest, she felt that Aunt Hui's cooking skills seemed to have declined a bit, but she was very hungry, so she didn't care whether it tasted good or not.

After noon, the weather turned gloomy again.

After changing her clothes, Jin Chuwan sat in her room wrapped in a small blanket, lost in thought. Suddenly, she remembered that she should ask her advisor for leave, and began searching for her phone.

She searched the bed but couldn't find it. She then started looking through her pockets, but finally couldn't find it anywhere, so she went downstairs to ask Jiang Chen.

It turned out that he had thrown her phone into the drawer, leaving Jin Chuwan helpless.

"Why didn't you tell me..."

At this moment, Jiang Chen seemed to have become that lazy young master from school again, lying on the sofa with books covering his head. He heard Jin Chuwan's complaints, but he didn't move.

"The room is only so big, you just couldn't find it. Also, people who have just been sick shouldn't run around barefoot in the room..."

The other person's cool voice made Jin Chuwan realize that she was the one who was being unreasonable.

She glanced down at her feet and sighed softly. She had only taken two steps in the room while looking for something. How did this guy know?

But there was no point in worrying about it now. She shook her head and went back to her room. After turning on her phone, she received several advertising text messages. She deleted them one by one before calling her advisor.

Ran Xian handled her trip abroad very discreetly, but it wasn't completely airtight.

When the counselor heard her ask for leave, he smiled indifferently and said, "Okay, I understand. Focus on getting better." Then he added, "Should I give you a week's leave or two weeks?"

Jin Chuwan was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "Thank you, counselor. Just one day is fine."

After putting down her phone, Jin Chuwan randomly picked up a book and started flipping through it.

It started raining again outside. The raindrops were small and made almost no sound when they hit the ground, but by the time they were about to go out, the drizzle had become so fine that it was hard to bear.

However, Jiang Chen didn't seem to care. He bent over and stood under Jin Chuwan's umbrella. Perhaps because the bent-over posture was uncomfortable, he actually complained that Jin Chuwan's umbrella was not stable.

"If you don't want to, I can go back by myself."

Kim Cho-wan tried her best to maintain a calm expression, but Jiang Chen was clearly ungrateful.

He narrowed his eyes, a half-smile playing on his lips: "You know, yesterday I went to great lengths to pick someone up and bring them home, running around taking care of them and attending to their medical needs. I've done so much, and yet they get impatient with the smallest request..."

The driver hadn't brought the car over yet, and the two of them huddled together under a small floral umbrella, which looked rather comical.

However, Jin Chuwan couldn't smile at this moment; she looked at Jiang Chen with a complicated expression.

As the one being criticized, she was a little uncomfortable with Jiang Chen's unreasonable behavior, but the smile in his eyes was too obvious, so she suddenly had a willful impulse.

"Don't try to shift the blame. Aunt Hui clearly gave you an umbrella when you left, but you didn't want it. Now you're blaming me?"

"But you're holding your umbrella way too low."

"That's your own fault..."
