Chapter 92

Chapter 92

The bickering between the two didn't last long, after all, it was still raining.

After the driver arrived, the two of them folded their umbrellas and got into the car.

Jiang Chen's phone kept ringing on the way. Jin Chuwan realized it was about something at the company, so she sat quietly without disturbing him.

The car was already a confined space, and on a gloomy, rainy day, it gave one the illusion of being isolated from the world. Jin Chuwan looked out the car window for a while, then turned to look at Jiang Chen. He was listening to his phone in silence, his lips slightly pursed. He wasn't looking at her, but he seemed a little tense. To be honest, this side of Jiang Chen felt somewhat unfamiliar to her.

However, Jiang Chen himself did not seem to realize it. When he put down his phone, he looked at Jin Chuwan with a puzzled expression.

Why are you looking at me like that?

Jin Chuwan shook her head and then looked out the window.

As they approached the residential area, the repairman called to say he was already at the gate. Jiang Chen told him to wait a moment, as they would be there soon. The rain hadn't stopped outside, and Jin Chuwan was worrying about the only small umbrella in the car when she saw Jiang Chen pull out a black umbrella from somewhere.

Seeing the other person raise an eyebrow, Jin Chuwan felt helpless for a moment, but soon she hurriedly followed, holding her small umbrella.

The locksmith was very professional and opened the door in less than five minutes. Before coming, Jin Chuwan thought there would be some violent dismantling, but in fact, the staff's actions were quite civilized.

"It's basically still usable. If you're still worried, I can replace the lock cylinder for you right now," the locksmith explained politely.

Jin Chuwan hesitated upon hearing this.

To be honest, she probably won't be staying here for much longer.

"that……"

"Let's change it."

Jiang Chen, who was standing to the side, interrupted Jin Chuwan.

The locksmith glanced at the two of them, probably having misunderstood something, and smiled happily before nodding and getting to work.

Jin Chuwan tilted her head and looked for a while, but Jiang Chen pushed her into the house.

"I'm here, that's enough."

Jin Chuwan was a little dazed after being chased away, but when she came to her senses, she let out a soft hiss.

I locked myself out last night, and the room is still unkempt. The clothes I took off after showering are still on the sofa, and there are leftover desserts on the table.

Upon seeing this, Jin Chuwan immediately turned around and glanced back. Jiang Chen was speaking quietly to his master and seemed not to have noticed them.

She immediately began tidying up the house, and after soaking the clothes in water, Jiang Chen came in from outside at about the same time.

The lock seemed to have been changed. Jin Chuwan heard Jiang Chen thank her and looked up at the door.

The tall young man remained bent over, his hand on the doorknob, a polite smile on his face.

To be honest, this was a very novel feeling. Back in school, Jiang Chen was known for being aloof and indifferent. In those legendary stories, at least ten female protagonists were made to cry by him.

But at this moment, he was like an ordinary person who was reasonable and adept at navigating social situations.

"Oh……"

Jin Chuwan's low laughter reached Jiang Chen's ears. He turned around abruptly, and their eyes met. Jiang Chen tilted his head, looking confused.

"You're laughing like that again... Is there something wrong with me?" he asked, casually pulling the key from the lock. "When you laugh like that, I find it very strange."

"Why...why did I laugh?"

Jin Chuwan calmly looked away, her hands dangling, her wet fingers flicking lightly.

"It's like...you're making fun of me?" Jiang Chen said uncertainly. He didn't dislike her gaze; he just felt that she seemed to have something to say but was unwilling to speak frankly.

"I don't."

Jin Chuwan shook her head. She tidied up the table piled with books, many of which were about studying abroad. Jin Chuwan looked at them and inexplicably became a little distracted.

She looked up again, with what he perceived as a somewhat strange gaze.

"I just suddenly realized that I don't seem to know you that well."

Although they grew up together.

It seems she habitually places Jiang Chen in a superior position, always thinking that they should keep their distance and not interfere with each other. But now she's not so sure if this behavior is right or wrong.

However, Jin Chuwan quickly smiled with relief.

It doesn't matter whether it's right or wrong, she's leaving anyway.

"You don't understand me..."

Jiang Chen softly repeated Jin Chuwan's words. The tall young man's gaze unconsciously drifted to the window on one side. The rain outside showed no sign of stopping. His field of vision was not wide. All he could see were the soaked floors and the green plants that were being battered and swayed.

He chuckled, his gaze slightly lowered.

"Is it because you don't understand me, or have you never even considered trying to understand me?"

Jiang Chen's voice was very soft, almost like a sigh. Although his tone didn't sound like a complaint at all, and even carried a gentle, conciliatory tone, Jin Chuwan still stiffened.

Just like the embarrassment of being exposed, it made it hard for Jin Chuwan to maintain her smile.

This was an emotion that was completely foreign to her.

In the script she had created for herself, she and Jiang Chen were two parallel lines that would never intersect. They went their own way, without interfering with each other or owing each other anything.

But after learning about the other person's feelings, her former openness suddenly turned into indifference and coldness.

Even the other party's seemingly submissive hints inexplicably stirred up a sense of guilt within her.

Jin Chuwan felt a little lost, but with the sudden knocking on the door, she quickly pointed to the door as if she had been suddenly relieved.

"Did the locksmith leave something behind?"

Jiang Chen didn't move. He quietly looked at Jin Chuwan, and after seeing her shifty gaze, he chuckled softly.

The knocking at the door seemed to become more urgent, so Jiang Chen shook his head and went to open the door.

As the door opened, both the person inside and outside the room wore strange expressions, as if they were both surprised and used to this kind of surprise.

"What a coincidence."

Jiang Chen was the first to break the silence between the two.

"It is indeed a coincidence."

Li Xingen nodded in agreement, carrying the prepared medicinal meal in his hand. He smiled at Jin Chuwan, who looked bewildered, and said, "I asked your classmate and found out you took sick leave, so I came to check on you."

Upon hearing this, Jin Chuwan nodded in realization. She explained somewhat awkwardly, "I had caught a slight cold, but I'm fine now." Then she smiled and added, "I just wanted to be lazy, so I took an extra half-day..."

She looked at the two people at the door. Jiang Chen had already stepped aside to let them in. Li Xing'en skillfully changed her shoes at the door and handed the medicinal meal in her hand to Jiang Chen.

The harmonious atmosphere between the two made Jin Chuwan feel a little uncomfortable.

They weren't like this before...

Jin Chuwan's gaze shifted between the two of them. She wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but ever since their unpleasant encounter at the dinner table last time, she felt that the two of them gave her a strange feeling.

It was as if some kind of consensus had been reached.

Just as Jin Chuwan was lost in thought, Jiang Chen walked up to her carrying a soup bowl.

"Are there enough bowls in the kitchen?"

Judging from this, it seems they're going to have soup together.

Jin Chuwan nodded. She raised her hand to point to the cabinet, but then suddenly remembered that the kitchen hadn't been cleaned up last night, so she changed her mind and said, "Just leave it in the kitchen, I'll take care of the rest."

Jiang Chen shook his head, "I can do this little thing."

After saying that, he carried the soup bowl into the kitchen. Jin Chuwan heard the clanging sounds inside and was about to frown when she saw Li Xing'en walk in.

A faint voice of reproach came from the kitchen, and Jin Chuwan suddenly stared blankly at the clothes in the washing machine.

She felt something was wrong, but couldn't quite put her finger on it. However, as the old washing machine started humming, the noise from next door was completely drowned out, and Jin Chuwan shook her head and simply stopped thinking about it.

--

After Jin Chuwan finished washing the clothes, the room was filled with the aroma of thick soup. She looked at the two people sitting peacefully on the sofa, and her previous doubts began to resurface.

However, she didn't ask any further questions.

Although they seemed to have some conflicts before, they are both mature people after all, and there is no need for them to be hostile to each other over trivial matters. Besides, their identities are also special, as their families are in business. It is always better to have more friends than more enemies.

With this in mind, Jin Chuwan felt relieved.

The bowls and chopsticks were already set on the table, and Jin Chuwan sat down and took the first bite.

It was a familiar smell. She looked up at Li Xing'en and asked, "Did you make this?"

Lee Sung-eun didn't drink the soup; she just rested her chin on her hand, looked at Kim Cho-wan, and nodded.

Jiang Chen lay back on the sofa with a bowl in his hand, slowly drinking his soup while glancing sideways at Li Xing'en.

He really didn't want to hide his thoughts at all.

Jiang Chen smiled sarcastically, but he concealed it by drinking soup. Neither Jin Chuwan nor Li Xing'en noticed.

Even if he noticed, it wouldn't matter. He was still quite at ease with Jiang Chen. After all, compared to a thief like Ran Xian, a self-controlled spy like Jiang Chen was more likable.

But that's all there is to it.

Li Xing'en looked at Jin Chuwan. Her face was a little pale today. He had angered her not long ago, and he was worried that she would forbid him from entering the house, but now it seemed that she had forgotten about those unpleasant things.

That's good.

The three people at the table didn't exchange many words. After finishing the soup, Li Xing'en took the initiative to clean up, but Jin Chuwan held him down.

"I'll take care of it."

Jin Chuwan said, stacking up the bowls and chopsticks and heading to the kitchen.

She finally let out a sigh of relief as she turned on the tap.

At the dinner table, Li Xing'en's gaze was almost constantly fixed on her. Although he maintained a calm smile, she still felt some pressure.

Jin Chuwan watched the pool gradually overflow, then turned to look at the living room. She had always felt that Li Xingen had a kind of magic; he always seemed to be able to easily make people lower their guard. By the time she noticed, he had already become a familiar presence to her.

But now this habit is starting to be replaced by other emotions.

Are you nervous?

Jin Chuwan couldn't explain it either. She turned off the tap and then focused on washing the dishes. There were three dishes in total, which wasn't too troublesome. She was just wondering what excuse to use to see the guests off later.

Perhaps she was too engrossed in her thoughts, so she didn't even notice when Jiang Chen came to her side.

Have you told him about your plans to go abroad?

A cold voice suddenly rang in her ears, and Jin Chuwan was stunned.

The boy stood behind her, opening the cupboard and slowly placing the dried bowls inside.

Jin Chuwan hesitated for a moment, then shook her head.

"Then don't let him know in the future..."

After putting down the last bowl, Jiang Chen didn't rush to leave. He slowly approached Jin Chuwan and spoke in a voice that was almost only audible to the two of them.

"Believe me, Li Xing'en is definitely not the kind and gentle person you imagine."

The boy's breath tickled her ear, and Jin Chuwan was momentarily stunned. Just as she was about to turn around, she heard a question from outside the door that sounded like a half-smile.

"What are you talking about? Can't you say it in front of me?"
