"Given the power shift between those in power, I don't expect the priest to actually punish Ford severely; this matter will most likely be settled quietly."
"There is no direct evidence to prove that the location of the relics is as Ford described; Eve is the only one who is unlucky."
"But even she won't be in any danger; she'll be completely redeemed by the Kingdom of Saint Na."
Maggie sat in her room early in the morning, looking out the window listlessly, while explaining the pros and cons to Roy.
"Wouldn't all this work have been for nothing?"
Roy couldn't understand these twists and turns, and his little expression was full of disappointment.
"It's because I'm not strong enough yet. If I were a high-level mage now, how could I have the patience to play any tricks? I would just go straight up and kill Ford, and deal with the rest later."
Maggie's tone was calm, without even a hint of hatred. It wasn't like she was talking about killing someone; it was more like she was discussing what to eat for breakfast.
"My goal is to maneuver among these powerful individuals to gain the resources and time to become stronger."
"If you remain trapped in the Temple of Light, you will not be able to make progress."
As she said this, she silently added two more sentences in her mind.
After all, it was not appropriate for Demon King Safa to approach her in the temple, nor was it appropriate for him to show himself here.
Despite the fact that the God of Light has reincarnated into a human form, the power of the Temple of Light remains unfathomable. Although the temple appears to be unprotected, it is filled with all sorts of sacred artifacts.
It's more than enough to drive away a demon; even the Demon King wouldn't dare approach this place casually, as he would definitely be detected.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. As Maggie expected, there were two letters, one bearing the coat of arms of the Zefnia family and the other bearing the insignia of the royal family of the Kingdom of Saint-Nara. The gold-embossed envelopes looked very valuable.
Maggie stood up, took the letter from the maid, and threw the Duke's letter aside without even glancing at it.
It's no surprise they all ordered her to rescue Princess Eve and take her back; who cares about them?
She gently opened the letter from the royal family with her fingertips.
A quick glance up and down revealed the key information within seconds: an apology and a subtle hint for her help in rescuing the princess.
The letter made no mention of payment, which meant she must have already met her adoptive father.
I don't know what benefits that old bastard promised her, but it certainly has nothing to do with her, and she won't get a single penny.
So Maggie simply wrote four words on the letter.
There's nothing I can do to help.
Before the maid who delivered the letter had left, Maggie stuffed the letter into the envelope, turned around and handed it directly to the maid.
"Please help me return it. Thank you for your help."
Maggie gave the maid a gentle smile, which made the maid blush instantly and stammer.
"No...it's not hard work, it's Your Highness who has had a hard time."
Maggie was taken aback by the maid's words, but then her expression softened, and she gently shook her head at her.
"You shouldn't say things like that so casually in the future."
Maggie knew that what happened last night had spread throughout the temple, and even the maids felt sorry for her, which could be considered as achieving one of her goals.
However, ordinary people shouldn't get involved in this kind of incident. If Ford heard about it, the poor maid would definitely be in big trouble.
Although the maids are ordinary people who do odd jobs and serve all sorts of people at the Temple of Light, their conditions are actually much better than those of maids outside, or even those working in the royal palace.
Maggie didn't want her situation to implicate any civilians.
"Oh, oh, okay."
The maid blushed even more, buried her head in her chest, and stammered even more, seemingly not expecting to receive the Holy Maiden's concern, and felt completely elated.
"Um."
Maggie nodded with a smile on her lips.
The maid left the room, and Maggie's expression vanished instantly. Smiling all the time was exhausting, and besides, she had just glanced in the mirror and realized she inexplicably resembled Harlan.
As expected, it is the ever-present and persistent God of Light.
Maggie thought through gritted teeth.
...
To Maggie's surprise, she had thought things would take a few more days to develop, but Princess Eve's actions were far beyond everyone's expectations.
She just happened to be passing by a room when she heard Eve screaming frantically inside.
"The God Lord wouldn't refuse to see me! There must be something wrong with your sacred artifacts. The people of the Temple of Light are all liars. I'll have my father expose you!"
Maggie paused, a strange expression appearing on her face.
Although Princess Eve's words sounded like a narcissistic fantasy, they hit the mark exactly what the Temple of Light wanted to hear.
Because the sacred object has not manifested its power for many years, meaning that the God of Light has not appeared for a very long time.
The so-called miracles we see today are all fabrications by the Temple of Light.
She actually stumbled upon the truth by sheer chance.
Originally, there wasn't a big problem, but this was the truth that the Temple of Light was trying its best to hide. If she were allowed to go out and spread rumors, who knows what might happen, and it might even shake the temple's rule.
Maggie rubbed her temples, feeling somewhat troubled.
If Princess Eve is allowed to act recklessly like this, she might lose her chance to go back.
Finally, Maggie sighed, turned and walked toward Princess Eve's room. It seemed she had to find a way to shut her up, or her plan would be ruined.
“Your Highness, if you want to leave the temple alive, I suggest you keep quiet.”
Maggie spoke calmly to the distraught Princess Eve through the door.
The noise on the other side of the door quieted down for a moment, then suddenly a loud banging came from the door.
"I command you! Open the door!"
Princess Eve's arrogant voice rang out, showing Maggie, as always, no respect whatsoever.
“I cannot disobey the priest’s orders. Even if I open the door, there are paladins guarding outside. I suggest that Your Highness remain quiet and wait for your dear father to find a way to save you.”
Maggie spoke slowly.
"Hmph, useless saintess!"
It seemed that Maggie's last words calmed Princess Eve's anxiety, and her cries finally ceased.
"..."
Maggie really had the urge to kill Princess Eve, but after thinking about the benefits she could bring, Maggie chose to swallow her anger.
Eve quieted down, and Maggie had no reason to stay any longer, so she turned to leave.
But then Eve's voice came from inside the door.
"Hey! I'm asking you! Why won't the God see me?!"
Maggie paused, her head filled with question marks. Sometimes she really admired the thought process of someone in love; was it even worth asking such a question?
However, to prevent her from yelling again later, Maggie took a deep breath and chose to lie through her teeth.
"God has mercy on every believer. Perhaps He sensed your fervent faith and did not come to see you immediately. When the time is right, He will meet you in a holy manner."
Maggie could easily come up with lies to coax people, but they weren't exactly deceitful. Anyway, soon all the gods would be restored to their rightful places, and they would eventually see the God of Light.
The next second, she met Harlan's eyes as he stood in the corridor not far away.
