Chapter 437 Who Died Again?

An atmosphere of despair spread through the ruins of the sacred mountain. Maggie watched helplessly as El and Saphis gradually became overwhelmed, while the cracks in Tartarus widened faster and faster.

She turned to look at the scepter on the mountaintop, gritted her teeth, unfurled enormous wings of light behind her, and flew towards the mountaintop.

Anyway, there's something here that should rightfully belong to the main god, so if all else fails, she'll just have to use it for now and see if it works.

Saphis and El couldn't possibly leave, otherwise the rift would swallow the throne and her whole being in an instant, leaving no hope whatsoever.

The seven gods were still receiving power from their divine positions and had no idea what was happening outside. So, only she was left, and she might be able to use the scepter of the chief god.

Although Maggie didn't know whether her projection of a future timeline would be usable.

But now we have no choice but to try anything, even if it seems hopeless.

Maggie had many thoughts running through her mind, but in reality, only a moment had passed.

She moved very fast; in the blink of an eye, she had rushed to the mountain peak and reached out to try to grasp the divine scepter, which was still in a phantom state.

Maggie closed her eyes, silently praying for success, and then...

Her fingertips touched the cold shaft of the cane.

Maggie suddenly opened her eyes, her gaze bursting with unparalleled joy. She gripped the scepter with all her might, for it was the hope for survival for everyone present, and even for the entire continent of Coral.

Safis and El noticed Maggie's situation as well, and when they saw Maggie gripping the scepter of the chief god, they both showed expressions of surprise.

El's emotions were rather shallow, and most of the time they were even nonexistent. If it weren't for Maggie, he probably wouldn't have had any emotions at all.

It was already difficult enough for him to just show an expression; he didn't react any further.

But Saphis was different. He was a demon who did whatever he pleased, and his emotions fluctuated greatly. He shouted it out loudly on the spot.

"Huh? You're the supreme god?"

His shock was palpable.

"I...."

Maggie was struggling to lift the scepter, intending to use it to resist the abyss, when she stopped in her tracks, about to answer Saphis's question.

Because she discovered that she couldn't lift the scepter at all; in other words, although she could touch it, she couldn't pick it up.

"Hmm... I don't think so, because I can't pick it up."

Maggie answered calmly.

In reality, she was also quite devastated, but she didn't show it. Or rather, she was given hope first, and then her hope was shattered. Her emotions fluctuated so much that she was now beyond tears and couldn't even cry anymore.

"...Okay, very good."

Safis and Maggie were in essentially the same mood, with veins bulging on their foreheads, visibly on the verge of exploding.

Maggie didn't say a word. She didn't want to give up like this. The few muscles on her arms were bulging from the excessive force, but the scepter remained motionless, showing no sign of moving.

She was like a fake hero, unable to draw the sword of a warrior to defeat the demon king.

But she was unwilling to accept this, unwilling to die like this, and unwilling to let all the hard work she had put in go to waste.

Maggie slowly closed her eyes, despair and resentment flashing through her mind, countless images of her near-death experience replaying in her thoughts.

If she were to die like this, everything she had done would become a joke, and all her efforts would be in vain.

She wanted to live.

I want to live.

Al and Safis also realized Maggie's thoughts, and the angels and demons fell silent, waiting for an impossible miracle to happen.

Maggie on the mountaintop remained motionless, showing no sign of wielding her scepter. Saphis and El held out fiercely until...

The rift in Tartarus finally widened to the vicinity of the seven divine thrones, just a few meters away, and all the thrones were about to be swallowed into the abyss.

After paying such a high price and sacrificing countless false gods, if seven gods still cannot be born to maintain stability in the next era, the scales will inevitably tip towards the side of increasing entropy, and chaos will spread like wildfire across the continent of Coral, beyond even the control of angels.

A hint of helplessness finally appeared on El's usually calm face. His voice was soft, like someone about to say goodbye.

"If I don't come back, I must take her with me."

Safis's eyes flashed with astonishment. He turned his head and saw that El suddenly retracted the wings that were suppressing Tartarus, and instead quickly flapped them and rushed into the abyss rift, leaving him no time to react.

El disappeared from his sight in an instant, swallowed up by the black hole.

Perhaps the abyss had been briefly satiated, for the edges of the crack finally stopped spreading and barely came to a halt.

It took Safis a while to realize that the 'she' El was referring to must be the girl on the mountaintop.

only.....

He glanced at Maggie, who was lost in her own world, trying to control the scepter, with a complicated expression, and sighed silently.

It's simply because he doesn't think highly of Maggie.

An existence that is neither human nor inhuman, whose time is frozen, should have no way of gaining the approval of the God's Scepter. No matter how hard she tries, it will all be in vain.

However, Safis felt somewhat conflicted as his 'old friend' was completely swallowed up by Tartarus before his very eyes, all for the sake of this continent.

No matter how much he hated angels, El was someone he had known for a long time, even if he had a strange personality and seemed like a creature incapable of understanding emotions.

Just like humans raising dogs, no matter what, as long as they are alive and can communicate, some feelings will inevitably develop.

Not long after El went inside, the edge of Tartarus began to stir again, so briefly that even Safis frowned.

He knew the angel's power, so how could it be... so fast?

Now that he has lost El, he is at his last gasp, and even if he can hold on, it will probably only last for a few dozen seconds.

"I really... owe you guys... Oh well, I'm also responsible for this rift spreading from hell to the continent, so consider it as paying off a debt."

Safis thought for a moment, then glanced back at Maggie, weighing the two options in his mind, and finally chose the other one.

Instead of taking Maggie away as El had requested, he shouted something towards the mountain peak.

"Little girl, stop trying. Leave this place. After the rift swallows me up, it should be quiet for a while."

Having said that, Safis resolutely turned and flew into the abyss rift, even though as a demon he shouldn't have done such a thing.
