Chapter 227: Another homeless god has been taken in.

"No...I don't owe..."

The group of people stared at Maggie in terror, stammering out words as if afraid that if they hesitated even for a second, they would be killed by the man behind her.

"Shouldn't you be leaving now?"

Maggie could see their fear, but she did nothing to soothe the thugs. She simply wore a polite smile and spoke in a calm yet inexplicably frightening tone.

Like a puppet with a forced smile, it may appear beautiful, but it feels like looking at a false and lifeless being, sending chills down your spine.

"Let's go, let's go."

They kept bowing and scraping, and after receiving Maggie's permission to let them pass, they immediately scattered and fled in all directions, leaving only the woman with light blonde hair behind.

Maggie then saw her face clearly: a straight nose, deep-set eyes, and a faint smile at the corners of her mouth—a stunningly beautiful face.

She also has a pair of very special heterochromatic eyes, one gold and one silver. The gold is deeper than Maggie's eyes and is closer to the color of fireworks.

The silver one, however, resembled an inorganic glass bead, its chill penetrating to the very core, like staring directly at the moon.

Looking down, her figure is also excellent, tall and slender, with a pair of long, straight legs. Apart from her flat chest, she has no flaws.

Maggie suddenly understood why those people were so determined to kidnap her.

Such beauty is indeed enough to make people drool.

She stepped forward, stood in front of the woman, tilted her head slightly to look at her, and spoke in a gentle and reassuring tone.

"It's alright now, are you okay?"

To her surprise, the woman simply looked at her quietly, without saying a word, her eyes filled with a hint of interest, as if to say, 'I'm very interested in you.'

It wasn't gratitude or excitement, but rather a deep curiosity about her.

This strange reaction puzzled Maggie. Just as she was about to speak again, she saw the woman point to her ear and then shake her head.

"?"

Maggie paused, somewhat uncertain. Couldn't she hear her?

Congenital deafness usually results in the inability to speak, and not being able to hear sounds means not being able to make sounds. Thinking about this, Maggie suddenly felt sorry for the woman in front of her.

She turned her head and looked around, just in time to meet the gaze of one of the onlookers who hadn't yet dispersed. When he saw Maggie looking at him, he immediately understood and began to explain.

“I’ve lived here for quite a while. Her name is Rabai Harold. She really can’t hear or speak, and she’s causing trouble for Her Highness.”

Perhaps feeling sorry for the woman, he spoke up and even said some kind words for her, seemingly hoping that Maggie could take care of her a little longer, worried that after Maggie left, Labai would be bullied by the local bullies again, since Maggie wouldn't be there to protect him then.

"I see."

Maggie had obviously thought of this as well, and when she turned her head, she saw that Rabai was still looking at her, his gaze following her every move.

"Then come with me."

Maggie stepped forward and took Rabai's wrist, but then suddenly remembered that she couldn't hear, and her expression showed a moment of helplessness.

Consider this a good deed. If I don't take you with me, you'll be bullied by them. Let's take you back to the war zone first, and then we'll think about what to do after we've settled down.

Seeing that Maggie had taken the person away, the onlookers, having lost interest in the spectacle, dispersed.

Occasionally, you could still hear their slightly envious discussions.

"What incredible luck to be rescued by Her Highness the Holy Maiden! This is truly a meteoric rise to power."

“A deaf person must have a hard life. In this desolate place, if His Highness the Holy Maiden can help him, he might be able to live a better life in the future.”

"You've all been fooled. That woman isn't like that at all..."

The sounds gradually faded away. Maggie hadn't been listening carefully, so she didn't notice what they were saying afterward, preoccupied with Rabai's matter.

I don't lack personal attendants now, but I really feel uneasy having such a beautiful person as my maid; it's a bit of a hassle.

Labai is very tall. Although Maggie is pulling her along, from her perspective, she can only see the whorl of hair on Maggie's head and the incessant chatter in her ears.

But can she fight? Sending a deaf-mute to the battlefield—what difference is there between me and a ruthless exploiter? It's too sinful, too sinful.

The girl's voice was sweet but tinged with a hint of coldness and irritation, seemingly because of what was going on with her.

I never imagined that the first sound I would ever hear since birth would be like this.

Rabai seemed to be deep in thought.

Perkin seemed to have gotten used to Maggie picking people up from time to time, and he didn't give Rabai a second glance, even though Rabai was as dazzling as a big star.

He stood on the other side of Maggie, watching her seemingly unaffected, and his emotions finally calmed down.

Are you still going?

Perkin asked softly.

"Hmm? A restaurant? Of course we'll go."

Maggie was a little confused, and then suddenly remembered that their goal was to go out for dinner.

"good."

Perkin lowered his eyes, a slight smile playing on his lips.

...

It was late when we returned to the war zone, but we could still see the occasional glow of magic emanating from the city walls. Monsters don't sleep with people; they crave souls all the time.

Even when they were exhausted, the mages would stay up all night guarding the city walls.

Fortunately, someone will change shifts every few hours.

Maggie led the group straight towards her room, where she saw Harlan waiting for her at the door for some reason. He was leaning against the wall, half of his face hidden in the darkness. He only looked up at Maggie when he noticed her return.

As she watched his perfect smile slowly unfold, Maggie felt a sudden pang of unease.

"Your Highness, it's really worrying that you ran out without saying a word."

Harlan's voice was clear in the night. His pale blue eyes swept over the two people next to Maggie, and finally lingered on Perkin for two more seconds.

"So you brought a personal attendant. I was just being too concerned about you."

His words nearly made Maggie convulse. This bastard spoke ambiguously, leading people to misunderstand him. Anyone who didn't know better would think he liked her.

"Thank you for your concern, Commander Knight."

Maggie took a deep breath and gave a forced smile.

"Since you're here, Commander Knight, how about you do me a favor?"

She doesn't have the energy to arrange things with Rabai right now, so it's perfect to have Harun do it, so he doesn't have to keep an eye on her every day like he's being haunted by a male ghost.

From the moment he inexplicably appeared in the group, Maggie felt that something was off about him.

Sometimes she wondered if Harlan was worried she would reveal the Demon Key, which was why he was always around her, watching her to make sure she didn't say anything out loud.

"Of course I will carry out Her Highness's orders."

Harlan raised an eyebrow slightly.
