"Hmm... as long as it's not boring, but let's not hide in the shadows today."
Maggie didn't know what to say in response, so she quickly turned her head away again, deciding not to look into Perkin's eyes any longer.
Perkin's eyes were undeniably captivating, with a long, narrow, and sinister shape, unlike Harlan's deep, affectionate gaze even when looking at a dog. Yet, she still sensed a hint of affection in them. It seemed her brain was truly about to malfunction today.
"good."
The moonlight, mixed with lamplight, shone on Perkin, perfectly softening his gloom and making him seem more approachable than usual.
His features were already outstanding, and this made him even more eye-catching. Passersby kept casting glances at Perkin, but Maggie had no interest in looking at him.
Walking on the blue brick and stone road, following the red brick wall all the way to the center of the border city, the further away from the war zone, the more prosperous the surroundings became, until finally it was no different from an ordinary residential area.
"There are taverns, restaurants, and markets here. Is there anything you'd like to eat? Or should I buy you a couple more outfits?"
Maggie remembered that she had just become rich and hadn't had a chance to spend it yet, so she thought for a moment and then said to Perkin.
It always felt like Perkin's clothes were welded to his body; he never seemed to change them. Now that he had money, Maggie absolutely couldn't accept him continuing to be so 'frugal'.
However, it's more likely that he's too lazy to change it.
"Have a meal."
Perkin seemed to recall the scene at the clothing store last time, and without hesitation, he chose another option, his expression becoming alert, his snake-like eyes narrowing as if he were afraid.
"?"
For some reason, Maggie immediately picked up on his thoughts. Was he worried that without Nesser, she would make him change his clothes repeatedly, just like she had to tormented him? That's why he was so eager to go eat.
Maggie's eye twitched. Did she seem like the kind of person who would force others to do things they didn't like?
She met Perkin's gaze and sensed that he was trying to mentally prepare himself, with an air of someone determined to die for his cause.
Forehead.....
Maybe?
She suddenly remembered her regret at not letting Perkin change into more outfits last time, and she wasn't so sure if she would let Perkin change clothes again.
Well, since he wants to eat, let's find a restaurant.
Maggie thought dejectedly.
"Let's go to the restaurant."
As soon as Maggie spoke, she clearly felt Perkin breathe a sigh of relief and nod vigorously and quickly.
"..."
What should I do? I feel so annoyed.
Why be so afraid?
Maggie was speechless.
As Maggie passed by the bakery, she kept glancing inside. The bread there was special, with all sorts of beautiful patterns. They had European-style bread, bagels, rye bread, baguettes, and a wide variety of other breads.
Maggie hesitated, wondering whether she should go in and buy two, when she suddenly heard a quarrel coming from ahead.
Following the sound, as you walk out of the alley, you can see a tall woman with light golden curly hair standing by the fountain in the wide square ahead, surrounded by a dozen men who are eyeing her menacingly.
The surrounding crowd were all watching the show, and no one showed any intention of stepping forward to help.
"What's going on?"
Maggie frowned slightly. Given the disparity in numbers, ganging up on and bullying a woman seemed a bit excessive.
But considering that this was a magical world, and that woman might be a powerful figure, she shouldn't meddle in other people's business. However, after thinking about it, she decided to go closer and take a look.
If it's really bullying the weak, then offering a little help is acceptable.
It can also help establish the image of the Holy Maiden of Light as a compassionate being.
Maggie thought.
"Come with me and take a look."
She turned around and said something to Perkin.
As she approached, the discussions of the onlookers reached her ears.
"This little girl is really unlucky. It's clearly her father's debt, but these local bullies not only insist on her paying it back, but they also want it paid right now. If she doesn't pay, they'll force her to become a prostitute."
"Exactly, these people clearly didn't expect her to be able to pay it back; they just wanted this girl to go..."
As Maggie approached, the voices gradually grew softer until only the last person remained, still chattering away, presumably unaware of Maggie's presence.
Until someone next to him patted him and whispered in his ear.
"Wait, stop talking."
Maggie noticed the man's subtle, suggestive gestures, but she wasn't going to get angry over it; she simply smiled gently at them.
Her saintly robes are a conspicuous identifier, which any mercenary with a little experience would recognize.
So along the way, she received no shortage of respectful glances.
The local thugs inside were still shouting and threateningly pointing their knives and swords at the woman.
"Let me tell you, you either pay back the money now, or you come with us!"
"Trying to escape debts from us at Black Rock? Let me tell you, absolutely not!"
"Yeah, pay back the money quickly, or give us brothers a good time."
As soon as she finished speaking, a malicious laugh suddenly erupted from the group of local bullies, their disgusting gazes licking at the woman's body. Even from Maggie's perspective, it was nauseating.
"How much money do I owe you?"
Maggie's expression turned slightly cold. When she spoke, the entire room fell silent, and all eyes were on her. The onlookers all made way for her, afraid of blocking her path.
Upon hearing the sound, the local bullies all stopped smiling and looked in the direction of the sound, where they saw a young girl who exuded nobility.
It's unclear whether it was because Maggie's beauty was too outstanding, or because the leading man was ignorant and unaware of her saintly status.
He glanced at Maggie with the same lewd look, his tone greasy and wicked.
"What? Little sister, are you planning to pay for her? Or do you want to have some fun with us brothers too?"
As soon as he finished speaking, his henchman behind him tremblingly reached out to pat him on the shoulder, but before he could even speak, the man's head had already vanished from his neck.
Looking again, the man's head had rolled to the ground at some point, and a lewd smile remained on his face.
Maggie watched calmly. She wasn't angry, but she felt that Perkin had acted too quickly. She didn't ask any questions yet.
Behind her, Perkin quietly wiped the dagger, which was spotless, but he wiped it several times, his eyes revealing an undisguised coldness and danger.
Even after killing someone, his murderous intent remained unabated.
"So how much money do I owe you?"
Maggie asked again.
This time, no one dared to answer; they all stared at her in terror.
The woman who hadn't spoken a word the whole time then gently raised her head and looked at Maggie with a thoughtful expression.
