Chapter 47 Perkin Enters the Temple

Seeing that Maggie was lying in bed undisturbed, the little ghost and Roy floated out from somewhere.

"Why don't you use the magic I taught you?"

The little ghost's tone had a accusatory quality to it, indicating that it was quite dissatisfied that Maggie, as its only human student, hadn't used the magic he taught her.

"I am the Holy Maiden of Light. If I can use dark magic, I will be expelled from the temple."

Maggie rubbed her temples, her tone filled with helplessness.

Elemental spirits don't understand the intricacies of human power struggles, making it very difficult to explain.

The number of followers of the God of Darkness is not large. Although it cannot be considered a cult, it is irreconcilably opposed to the Temple of Light. If followers of the God of Darkness are captured in cities and countries that worship the God of Light, they will not be killed, but they will be thrown out.

Dark magic is mostly insidious and ruthless, with extremely high lethality, which is completely opposite to the style of the Temple of Light. Over time, it has become what it is today.

In reality, the followers of the Dark God are mostly dark magicians and shadow assassins.

In addition, there is a special branch of elves, the Shadow Elves. They also worship the Dark God and are natural-born assassins who hide in the darkness and kill their targets with a single blow.

In stark contrast to the true nature of elves, who worship only the forest god.

Once Perkin enters the temple, Maggie will have to teach him to conceal his true nature so that the people of the temple will never discover it.

"You humans are really strange."

The little ghost muttered to itself, seemingly not understanding this behavior.

In their view, elemental attributes are neither good nor evil, and neither dark nor light is more noble than the other; they are just ordinary elements.

"You don't need to understand humans."

Maggie shook her head. Even if you told the elemental spirits about the affairs between the factions, they would still be confused. Even if they understood, they would still complain that humans were terrible.

This wasn't the first time Maggie had experienced something like this.

"But I still have to thank Roy. I didn't expect Motley's light arrow to be so fragile."

She had considered using defensive magic, but her light arrows actually tore his light arrows apart, which surprised even her.

Theoretically, even with the amplification from the staff, and without the help of a high-ranking elf, the intensity of her light arrows shouldn't be so abnormal. Her light arrows seem to be twice as thick as the opponent's.

“You are learning an ancient magical language, and the magic you use is more than twice as powerful as modern magic. Even if he is a mid-level mage, you are more than capable of dealing with him.”

The little ghost waved his hand, his tone carrying a hint of pride.

"The reason why humans simplified the language of magic is that ancient magic consumed too much magic power. They needed to control the precise output of magic power in order to fight for longer."

“They have to carefully calculate every bit of magic they possess, but you don’t.”

The little ghost raised its neck high, its two short arms clasped to its chest, making Maggie wonder if the creature under the white cloth really was a little skeleton.

However, the little ghost doesn't really like her right now, so it's best not to provoke her.

"So that's how it is."

After a moment's thought, Maggie understood where her advantage lay in the fight.

She possesses an almost limitless reserve of magic power, derived from numerous unclaimed elves—a privilege unavailable to other magicians.

"However, in the end, in order to kill Motley, I still used double chanting, hoping that no one would find out."

Maggie originally intended to wait until Motley hit her and lowered his guard before killing him with her light arrow, but she couldn't stand having any blemishes on her face.

This face is so beautiful, it's like a work of art; Maggie can't bear to part with it.

The original owner... was a very gentle girl. If it were her, she definitely wouldn't want any wounds on her face.

Maggie closed her eyes, as if the original owner's playful tone when she said "goodnight" still echoed in her ears.

If the original owner of this body had been born in modern times, she would definitely have had many fans.

"The other one dissipates very quickly, and unless there is someone with an exceptionally high affinity for the light element, it will go unnoticed."

Roy gently comforted Maggie.

Maggie gave a soft "hmm," reopened her eyes, and cleared away the messy, nostalgic emotions. She still had many crises to resolve, and thinking about these things now was pointless.

Once her mind cleared, Maggie got out of bed and casually tore open the letter.

She quickly skimmed through the information and figured out that it was pretty much what she had guessed.

The Duke has already arranged for Perkin to be a knight in shining armor, and he will soon be sent to the temple. All she needs to do is help promote the Elixir of the Night.

Perhaps when she wakes up tomorrow morning, Perkin Xavier will already be waiting for her outside the temple.

“My dearest father....."

Maggie had a mocking smile on her lips as she muttered to herself.

The Duke still regarded her as the original owner of the body and believed that she would definitely keep her promise and would not dare to play tricks on the Duke's mansion.

Of course, Maggie didn't intend to break her promise, but whether the potion would actually reach her was another matter entirely.

...

The next morning, Maggie met Perkin Xavier again in the temple's forecourt.

He stood there with a sinister and indifferent gaze. His messy black hair, which almost covered his eyes, had been cut short at some point, revealing his very distinctive snake eyes. The emerald green eyes gleamed with a cold light, and just one look at them could send chills down one's spine.

His pale skin was even paler than the uniform of the Temple of Light he wore, which not only did not make him appear holy, but even gave him a somewhat eerie look.

If he hadn't passed the temple's test and been confirmed to be human, Perkin might have been treated as an undead or a vampire.

Compared to him, his clear, delicate, and even handsome features were made less noticeable.

It's funny to Maggie, really. The unruly God of Darkness was somehow turned into a subordinate of the God of Light by her. I wonder if he'll be furious when he regains his godhood.

Or perhaps they will fight the God of Light?

Maggie isn't sure either, but just thinking about it makes it seem like a great ship.

The eternal theme is the love-hate relationship between opposing gods.

"Come with me."

Maggie stepped forward, uttered only three words, and turned to walk away, but Perkin suddenly reached out and grabbed Maggie's wrist.

"!"

When Maggie was suddenly touched by his icy hand, goosebumps instantly rose all over her body. This chilling feeling, as if she were being grabbed by a demon from hell, was something no one would like.

[It's so cold! My dear, I need to take you back quickly and tell you the precautions! Don't suddenly have a seizure!]

Maggie immediately turned around and glared at him, muttering to herself.

"what you do?"

Perkin didn't let go, but stared at the spot where their skin touched, watching quietly.

[Let go! If you reveal you're a dark-type, you're finished!]

Maggie was extremely agitated inside, but on the surface, she slightly frowned, displaying an expression of displeasure.

"Let me go."

Her voice turned cold; if he didn't let go, she was prepared to use the slave contract scroll.

Perkin lifted his droopy eyelids to look at her, then silently withdrew his hand.

Maggie was already used to his taciturn nature, and she started walking forward again, not noticing Perkin's thoughtful expression.
