The moment Nesser saw Maggie, he immediately dropped everything he was doing and ran toward her with small, quick steps and bright, sparkling eyes.
He pounced on Maggie, wrapping his arms around her waist, and cheered happily.
"Yay! I finally get to see my sister."
Maggie gently patted his head, her touch revealing a subtle, almost imperceptible tenderness.
Are you bored here?
As she spoke, her gaze swept toward where Nesser had been standing, where an old man with gray hair and wearing a gold-embroidered velvet magic robe was standing.
[The person from the green tower? What are they doing here?]
She didn't have a very good impression of the Green Tower. Even though it was a neutral force and even though they were leading this era, most of the experiments they conducted to create new forbidden magic spells and make more potions were inhumane.
In the continent of Coral, magicians are born superior to others, while ordinary poor people are treated like experimental subjects at will by the Green Shade Tower. They have no human rights, and no one cares about their lives.
The humans who had mutated into half-blood servants in the room where the 'Blood of the Night' was stored were a stark example.
However, many of their experimental results have indeed benefited the continent of Coral, indirectly saving many humans, so the Green Tower has always been viewed with mixed opinions.
They didn't care, they were only engrossed in their research, a group of crazy magician scholars.
"Your Highness has traveled a long way, yet you have not visited the tower. This is truly an oversight, and I apologize to Your Highness."
The old man smiled kindly and slowly walked to the two of them. His robe was embroidered with a huge, lush green tree with intertwined branches, which was the symbol of the Green Shade Tower.
Symbolizing their wisdom, they sheltered humanity, blessed the entire era, and led humanity to the pinnacle of magic.
"It's not boring at all! I have the old man with me, and the magic he teaches me is really powerful!"
Nesser happily tugged at Maggie's skirt and pointed at the old man, his pointed ears, characteristic of the elves, turning pink with excitement.
Maggie understood immediately; the old man probably had his eye on Nesser's extraordinary wood-type talent and wanted to take him as a disciple.
"No need to be so polite. It would be more meaningful for you to teach Nesser magic than for you to come and visit me."
She nodded slightly, her tone carrying a hint of gratitude.
"It is a great pity that someone with such talent only masters a few primitive magics from the forest. I have also taken a liking to his talent."
The old man looked at Nesser, his eyes filled with undisguised affection.
“Nesser is an elf, and naturally different from humans.”
Maggie's voice was calm, without pride, guilt, or apology; she was simply stating a fact.
“Your Highness, Nesser is ultimately a wood-type mage, so joining the Temple of Light is not a good choice. If Your Highness agrees, Nesser can become my personal student and join the Green Tower.”
The old man was very polite in his words, but the sense of superiority ingrained in his bones was hard to erase, as if becoming his personal disciple was the highest honor.
Maggie couldn't help but find it amusing.
This person probably believes from the bottom of their heart that a towering, verdant edifice dedicated to scholarship is a hundred times better than a gilded but rotten temple of light.
Unfortunately, in Maggie's eyes, they were all annoying.
They're both equally bad; the Green Shade Tower is no good, and the Temple of Light is rubbish too.
Nesser blinked, glancing back and forth between the old man and Maggie. His innocent little eyes were quite adorable, and it was hard to tell what he was thinking.
“Nesser is an independent elf, so there’s no need to ask me about this. As long as Nesser agrees, that’s fine.”
She smiled and shook her head, indicating that the old man should ask Nesser directly.
Maggie maintained that she had no right to interfere with other people's choices, that the old man's affection for Nesser was genuine, and that she wouldn't stop Nesser if he really wanted to leave.
Taking Nesser away was mainly to save his life.
Now that he's far from the village, whether he joins the Green Tower or the Temple of Light, he can protect himself. She's not a babysitter; Nesser still has to walk his own path.
Before the old man could even ask, Nesser's crisp voice rang out in the courtyard, almost without the slightest hesitation.
"I want to go with my sister!"
Maggie looked at Nesser with some surprise. She had just seen Nesser chatting happily with the old man, and since the Green Shade Tower was indeed more suitable for him to study wood magic, she thought he would choose the Green Shade Tower.
She was prepared to let him go, but she never expected Nesser to choose her.
It really wasn't for nothing to save you.
Maggie was very pleased, feeling that her efforts had been rewarded.
"Grandpa, you are very good, but the Holy Maiden is even better. I cannot choose you."
Nesser spoke very seriously, and even his refusal was done with the politeness of a good child.
The old man was momentarily stunned, then chuckled and shook his head, bowing his head to Nesser.
"It seems our fate is not deep, but if you wish to change your mind, I welcome you anytime."
Maggie was surprised again. For him to say that, it seemed he really liked Nesser.
"Thank you, Grandpa. Nesser has been very happy these past few days."
Nesser bowed respectfully to the old man several times, then obediently returned to Maggie's side.
Maggie smiled and nodded.
"I also thank you for your generosity on behalf of Nesser."
The old man waved his hand and sighed with a hint of regret.
"It was nothing. I've been overwhelmed with research lately, and teaching Nesser magic is a way for me to relax. It's a win-win situation, so there's no need to thank me."
Maggie had assumed that the people in the Green Tower were all academic eccentrics with unpredictable personalities and many strange quirks, but she was surprised to find that this old man was actually quite easy to talk to.
Her mind began to race, and she set her sights on the drop of 'blood of the night' hidden in the green tower.
Compared to the dangers of exploring ruins, it's more worthwhile to exchange money or resources for readily available resources.
"The temple and the tower have always been on good terms, and there may be opportunities for cooperation between us in the future."
With her purpose in mind, Maggie immediately put on her signature smile, which exuded a sacred and gentle aura. Her approachability instantly increased, making people unconsciously lower their guard against her.
However, the person in front of her was also a seasoned old fox, so the effect wasn't very good.
"What Her Highness said fills this old man with longing."
Upon hearing this, the old man's smile deepened, and the wrinkles on his face became even more pronounced.
They were just being polite, but they said it with such sincerity. How much of it was genuine, no one can really know.
Maggie sighed inwardly, but showed no emotion on her face. Instead, she turned to the side and gestured for him to join her.
"The head maid's tea and refreshments have arrived. You may stay and enjoy them with us."
Maggie's words were also a reminder that they had been chatting for a long time, which was tantamount to asking him to leave.
"No need. I'm too old to eat sweets. I'll visit Your Highness again next time."
Old Man understood Maggie's unspoken meaning and politely declined her invitation.
After bidding farewell to the old man, Maggie turned and led Nesser into the room. The reason she didn't propose the trade for 'Blood of the Night' right now was because she was afraid that Arlin would realize that she already knew information about the Queen.
However, her words were a foreshadowing, so that when she asked to buy 'Blood of the Night' the next time, it wouldn't seem so abrupt.
