Chapter 26 "What if it works?" What if they really do come...

Reinhardt did not place all his hopes on Erna's group of children; he didn't even know if they had come with him.

Reinhard trusted the members of the military bandits more than they did.

Therefore, Reinhardt must find Victoria before she is sold, not only to ascertain her safety and whereabouts, but also to use the arrow that pierces through her.

Only in this way can they possibly escape.

The woman, her eyes vacant, gripped the chains connecting Reinhardt's collar and wristband tightly, and walked deeper into the area step by step.

Walking through the narrow, long corridor, the air in the deeper basement was chilling and biting. Reinhardt was dressed in thin clothes, and the cold easily seeped through his skin and into his bones.

Cold and in pain, the beautiful son of the god trembled involuntarily. Yet the cold did not distract him; he was completely focused on controlling the woman walking before him.

As he wished, the woman did lead him to the underground cell. But the situation did not improve; in fact, it was worse.

The underground prison was quite spacious, with a relatively wide avenue leading down the stairs. On each side of the avenue were three or four enormous iron gates.

Because of his poor eyesight, Reinhardt could not see the end of the scene clearly, so he could only make a rough estimate.

There seemed to be people inside each of the iron gates, and...most of them appeared to be young people. He couldn't see clearly, but Reinhardt guessed based on his intuition.

"Oh! Isn't this Lord Letigel? What brings you to the warehouse? What kind of goods would you like to pick up, sir?"

Reinhardt couldn't understand the slang, and he couldn't just let the woman answer on her own. He thought for a moment, then tried to learn the woman's speaking style and manipulated her answers.

"I just came to take a look."

Perhaps she usually looks like this, half-dead and listless, so no one else noticed anything unusual.

Only the poor blonde beauty is troubled by her efforts to imitate others.

He soon stopped worrying about imitating others because everyone else's attention was focused on him.

A man, neither as tall nor as strong as Buster, but reeking of a strong, sweaty stench, approached Reinhardt.

It was terrifying; the smell was so foul it was nauseating. I instinctively backed away.

Other male voices came from other directions.

"Hahaha! Even with your eyes closed, you could dodge it. Could it be that you haven't showered and the smell was so strong that it woke people up?"

The slovenly man's meager self-esteem crumbled when Reinhardt clearly dodged him, and he instantly clenched his fists.

"You little slut! You dare to hide?!"

Reinhardt sensed something was wrong and manipulated the woman to turn around and extricate herself from the predicament.

"Don't you know the rules for touching the product?"

The sweaty man actually stopped.

Indeed, rules are the most intimidating thing.

Reinhardt had grasped the essence of showing off and suddenly understood a little why Buster liked to be arrogant.

Although unwilling, the man understood the principle that the product should not be damaged. Besides, the higher the price of such high-quality goods, the more money they could make.

Moreover, she is the master's woman, so even if they don't like her, they have to consider the master's face.

The smelly man reluctantly moved aside, finally giving Reinhardt a chance to catch his breath.

The underground prison was under extremely strict guard, with someone watching over each cell door. The layout... felt somewhat similar to the streets outside.

Led by the woman, Reinhardt carefully examined each cell, and finally, when he reached the second cell on the left, he sensed Victoria's presence.

He couldn't see it, but he could sense its aura, or you could say its life force; at least, everyone gave him a different response.

However, Victoria's demeanor was somewhat unstable at the moment, and considering the rule against easily harming the merchandise, Reinhardt speculated that she might be under the influence of drugs.

There were still many people here, and everyone was very quiet, except for the occasional uncontrollable sobs that broke Reinhardt's heart.

Perhaps the Storm Leader, who is sharp-tongued but kind-hearted and enjoys robbing the rich to help the poor, will have a way to rescue them all.

Calming himself, Reinhardt twitched his fingers slightly, and the woman followed his command, slowly walking to the door and ordering the guard, "Open the door."

He wasn't strong enough to move Victoria; it was simply wishful thinking. So Reinhardt stuck to his original plan and prepared to find the communicator on Victoria's body.

There was nothing wrong with the plan of action. Without saying a word, the guard opened the door and pushed Reinhardt next to Victoria.

The blond son of the god stumbled and fell to the ground, ignoring the pain in his knees and hands, and groped his way to Victoria's side.

"Victoria, wake up." He lowered his head, trying to shake Victoria awake. But it was in vain; Victoria remained unresponsive. The only saving grace was that her breathing was relatively steady.

Reinhardt knelt and turned around, using his body to shield Victoria as he stealthily searched her pockets. But he was too naive; he hadn't realized that all of Victoria's belongings had already been taken.

The situation was bad, Reinhardt thought. He decided to use the woman's name to get her to take him and Victoria away from here first. They could figure out a solution later once they were out.

"Retigel? What are you doing here?"

Just as Reinhardt was preparing to implement his second plan, the door at the end of the corridor was suddenly opened from the inside. An uninvited guest stepped out and walked to the woman's side as Reinhardt noticed him.

He patted her shoulder gently and said, "The gentleman has arrived. I don't think you have time to wander around here."

Oops.

Reinhardt could sense that the divine power he had painstakingly accumulated was completely exhausted, and the woman had broken free of his control and regained her independent consciousness.

He wasn't sure if she would still have any memories of when she was being manipulated, but he knew that what he had done would be easily exposed once they compared their statements.

It's a very bad situation, and Reinhardt is only worried that it will affect Victoria.

Reinhardt was fully prepared to bear the consequences, but he did not expect the woman to remain silent and not say a word.

The man noticed the new character in the cage and, without hiding his admiration, laughed, "Oh? Dirk's got quite a haul today. You've picked up two high-end items."

This statement seemed to sting Rettigel. Her brows furrowed almost imperceptibly for a moment, then she turned her head and asked coldly, "And why are you here?"

The nonchalant man shrugged and said, "We have a distinguished guest. The gentleman was worried that there wouldn't be any gifts that would suit his taste, so he asked me to take a look."

Looking at Reinhardt, he chuckled: "It seems that this worry was unnecessary."

After saying that, he sighed with a hint of regret.

"Why didn't I find out?"

As he spoke, he shook his head, brushed past Retiger, and slowly walked forward to inspect the other cells.

Retiger remained silent, standing there quietly for a while before preparing to leave.

Reinhardt felt a slight stirring in his heart.

“If you want money, you can contact her partner.” He hesitated briefly, but spoke before the other party left, “They will give you whatever amount it is.”

Reijiel stopped in his tracks because of him. Reinhardt felt a glimmer of hope and continued to plead in a voice that only Reijiel could hear.

"As long as you contact her through her communicator, her partner will definitely give it to you."

...

The air suddenly froze. Retiger didn't leave, but he didn't respond either. It wasn't until much later, when Reinhardt heard the man who had suddenly appeared seem to leave through the passageway and the guards nearby moving around to hand over their duties, that Retiger suddenly uttered a sentence.

“It’s no use. You can’t escape, and they won’t find you.” Seemingly seeing through Reinhardt’s plea for help, Retiger shook her head and rejected the blonde beauty’s naive idea.

Her voice was low, tinged with a faint despair and emptiness, as she stated a fact: "Even if you find it, it won't help. You'll only kill them. This underground city is more terrifying than you can imagine."

"What if it works?"

He said.

"What if they really do come?"

“The probability of success might really be only one in ten thousand.” Reinhardt silently hugged Victoria’s head. “But if I don’t try, if I don’t do it, then even that one in ten thousand might not be possible.”

A note from the author:

----------------------

Victoria: See? There's no harm in comparison. Although the eldest brother is fierce, he's clean! Unlike those wild men outside, who are all smelly!

Reinhardt (nods)

Buster: Thank you, but it sounds kind of weird, even though I feel like you're praising me.

Madonna: She meant showering frequently; Reinhardt doesn't like smelly men.

From that day on, the Storm Leader, who diligently took a bath every day, [angry]: What does this have to do with me?! [angry][angry]

[Eye roll] I really want my baby to wear short skirts now, but I don't want those perverts to see her.

So much nutrient solution melted... I'm trembling.
