Chases between vampires are incredibly monotonous; everyone moves at roughly the same speed, with no significant leaps in speed despite age. Therefore, vampire chases rely more on skill and external aids, similar to the prototype car races of Yun Zhe's era.
However, the other party is clearly more experienced.
As the sun rose higher, the gap between the two sides gradually widened.
However, the sunlight left little light in the forest, as a gray mist began to spread through it, and soon Daniel and his companion disappeared into the dark gray mist.
The mist, almost tangible, gradually filled the area around the forest. Yun Zhe and Hamelin stopped in their tracks; this mist was unusual, and both sensed danger.
An arrow shot suddenly toward the clumps of gray mist, sparks flashing. The arrow must have caught fire as it entered the mist before disappearing completely into the fog.
The two turned around and saw Ellie, who had just arrived. She put down her bow and arrow. "Yun Zhe, don't you think this is very similar to the scene we encountered that night?"
Yun Zhe suddenly realized what was happening and gestured for Hamelin to quickly move away from the gray fog. However, the fog didn't press down on them like it had that night; instead, it slowly formed a gray wall in the woods, completely separating them from Daniel.
"It seems they have reinforcements too. That surprises me," Yun Zhe muttered, staring at the gray mist.
"What's so surprising about that?" Hamelin was furious that Daniel and Deborah had run away.
"With such a strong backup plan, why did they still run away so quickly?" I was thinking about this. Yun Zhe looked at the gray, opaque fog, shook his head dejectedly, and said, "Let's go back, we can't get through."
"What is this thing? It feels so scary," Ellie said, still shaken.
“It’s magic, I’ll ask Xixi when I have the chance,” Yun Zhe replied.
The first to spot Jerok were Gao and Lorraine's team, who hadn't seen the hunters for a long time. They mustered their courage and rushed into the woods, soon finding Jerok sitting under a tree, holding Rivia.
Jerok's face remained expressionless, his gaze level, seemingly noticing the approaching figure yet also not. He appeared to be lost in thought, yet also seemingly oblivious to everything. Correspondingly, an invisible killing intent permeated the air around him, deterring everyone from approaching or speaking to him.
The scene before them was clear: a hunter had been bitten to death by a vampire. Some people felt sorry for him, but also thankful that they hadn't come along, or they would have been in real danger.
The two sides remained locked in a stalemate under the tree until Yun Zhe and the others slowly returned.
Ellie's first sight was of Livia, collapsed in Jerok's arms. She rushed forward two steps, then saw Jerok, who was almost like a walking corpse.
The moment Jerok saw Ellie, an even fiercer and more explosive killing intent emanated from her, even snapping Jerok out of his daze. Of course, his aura was immediately suppressed.
Ellie's icy blue eyes were devoid of any warmth. She looked at the lifeless Livia, tightened her grip on her bow and arrows, and then began to scan the surrounding woods.
Ellie, who had always given everyone a gentle and shy impression, underwent a complete 180-degree reversal, becoming cold and sharp. She stood there like a knife, as if she could cut everything in sight in half.
"Ellie, calm down," Yun Zhe grabbed Ellie's arm, only to see her staring at him coldly. Tears welled in her eyes, and a desperate smile played on her lips.
"How can I stay calm?"
"Ellie," Yun Zhe wanted to say something, but was interrupted by Ellie's words.
"Don't force me," Ellie shook off Yun Zhe and stepped out.
"Ellie, this is for you." Yun Zhe paused for a moment, then handed over his usual crossbow and a pack of bolts.
Ellie didn't answer, she just nodded and ran into the depths of the woods.
Seeing that their lord had been humiliated, the soldiers dared not utter a word.
Meanwhile, Hamelin, who had been following Yun Zhe, slipped away quietly.
As Jerok watched Ellie's departing figure, a mix of emotions welled up inside him, so complex that he almost felt nauseous.
Yun Zhe stared at the silent Garlock, his mind a complete mess. Meanwhile, the perpetrator's mother, Hamelin, had already quietly slipped away.
Looking at the soldiers behind him with their spectator-like expressions, Yun Zhe really wanted to wave them away and tell them to disperse. But he couldn't.
"Ellie's grudge is my grudge," Yun Zhe said, then seemed to have nothing more to say.
“She kept telling me to help you at the very end of her life, and I hope she was right.” Jerok suddenly looked up, staring intently at Yun Zhe. “Actually, you already know even if I don’t say it, right?” Jerok’s voice was very low.
Yun Zhe's eyes dimmed; he knew that this matter was unlikely to have a good outcome.
