117 New Enemies

Within the gray fog, Daniel and Deborah were even more terrified than Yun Zhe and the others. They were trapped in the thick fog, which pressed in from all directions like a wall, giving them an immense sense of oppression.

The fog grew thicker and thicker, and the two of them began to breathe rapidly.

It seems this is their real trap! Faced with the approaching gray fog, Daniel and Deborah exchanged bitter smiles, their eyes filled with fear.

They tried several times to break through the gray fog with their physical bodies, but the gray fog not only seemed to be dense and hard, but also seemed to have a corrosive effect.

The two abandoned their attempt to break through, and stood hand in hand, back to back, as the gray fog completely swallowed them up.

“I’m sorry, I should have listened to you and investigated that local vampire first,” Deborah’s voice sounded unusually gentle.

“It’s not entirely your fault. I’ve thought about it, and we’ve probably had it too easy these past few years. When we do things, we’re not the same as we used to be.”

“Darling, I don’t want to die yet,” Deborah gripped Daniel’s hand even tighter.

Daniel frowned; at this moment, he truly couldn't think of any way to break through.

As if in response to Deborah's idea, the gray fog stopped a few meters away from them.

However, the two did not relax their vigilance; on the contrary, they became even more alert to deal with an even more terrifying presence.

A hoarse voice rang out from the thick fog.

"You are no match for me."

This is a pointless statement, Daniel thought, his brow furrowing even more deeply. But he dared not answer. Faced with this unknown power, Daniel rationally chose to listen.

He tugged at Deborah, who was about to speak. Deborah immediately understood and shut her mouth.

"But I've noticed something interesting; you don't seem to be on the same side as the vampires in this village." The voice drifted through the thick fog, elusive and difficult to pinpoint.

Daniel remained silent. But he realized that they might be able to survive.

Do you want to live?

Daniel looked around and saw thick, black fog all around him, the fog churning and swirling as if it were about to burst forth.

“So what is the cost of this cooperation?” Daniel asked, mustering his courage.

"Gagaga...gagaga..." Strange laughter echoed throughout the thick fog, as if countless people were laughing at the same time.

"Give me that sword." The voice suddenly returned to normal, exuding supreme authority.

Daniel and Deborah exchanged a worried glance; they found this condition difficult to accept.

But the thick fog around them reminded them that the fog, which was eager to reach out, kept stretching out in sections as thick as an arm, as if trying to drag them into that endless abyss.

"Yes, we agree..." Daniel said hastily. He already had a plan in mind. There were two swords, so wouldn't that be perfect?

Daniel, preoccupied with his own grand schemes, naturally didn't notice Deborah's expression.

"Very good, I hope we can cooperate happily." As soon as the word "quick" was spoken, the thick fog seemed to receive the order for a general offensive, and suddenly pressed down on the two of them from all directions.

“You said you were going to…” Daniel closed his eyes in despair, but before he could prepare for death, the sunlight shone on his eyelids, bringing him warmth.

Daniel opened his eyes and saw the slightly scorched woods and meadows under the sunlight.

The surrounding area bore the marks of a fire, and the entire forest was gray and dark, devoid of any life.

Daniel suddenly felt his hand go empty. He looked around in surprise, but Deborah was nowhere to be seen.

Daniel's throat was dry; he could imagine what the situation was like. A hostage—Deborah was most likely already a hostage.

From the woods emerged a tall, thin man clad in a long, black robe. He wore a hood and carried a whitish cane.

He stood in front of Daniel. "Two people are enough. I've protected that woman. Don't worry, I'll let you meet after this is all over."

Daniel stood there, fully understanding the meaning of those words, and completely losing the will to live.

The phrase "letting you meet" is just a euphemism for telling you all to die together. After all, he does this all the time and is very skilled at it.

"Let's not delay, let's talk about the specific details." Before Daniel could react, the man in black said with a grotesque laugh.

Soon, the news that Hamelin's family were vampires spread like wildfire among the soldiers. And it was Yun Zhe himself who spread this information.

The soldiers discussed it amongst themselves, but after several days they only reached two points of consensus.

First, this is a conflict between vampires; when they fight, we suffer. Neither of them are good people.

Secondly, Akdina is truly beautiful.

Jerok, who was already a man of few words, became even more taciturn. But Yun Zhe also fell silent.

For several days, Yun Zhe remained hidden on the second floor of the stable, never showing himself. Lorraine and Gao went up to him several times to ask for orders, but were quickly dismissed.

"Ellie's passing is a huge blow to the adults."

"That's right, I heard they haven't eaten for two days in a row."

“This is love, tsk tsk,” the first soldier continued.

"Isn't it because you guys are too useless that the adults can't rest easy?" the third person interrupted forcefully.

“Those are vampires…we’re not hunters…” the first two soldiers said almost in unison.

“That’s right, that’s right. If we were that good, why would we be ordinary soldiers?” the second soldier added.

"Quiet, quiet, Gao is coming..."

Gao glanced coldly at the soldiers in front of him. He didn't hear what they were saying, but he could guess what they were saying. They were either fantasizing about Akdina or complaining about the vampires.

"By order of the master, assemble," Gao said coldly.

The outcome of the meeting quickly silenced the soldier who had boasted that if he were that powerful, he wouldn't be a common soldier. Yun Zhe's decision was to have Jelock teach the soldiers techniques and precautions for dealing with vampires.
