Philby nodded heavily, waved his hand, and a servant handed him a brand-new knight's lance. Then he pulled down his mask and walked down the castle without looking back.

Outside the city walls, Adam and Gossamer watched the soldiers charge, both certain that today would be the day the city fell.
Although many unexpected things happened in the past three days, which made the siege so protracted.
