Chapter 180 Two Letters

The shadow of war once again loomed over the capital. Marquis Kurmann's army was defeated, and over 100,000 Belvedere soldiers, led by General Manstein, split into two groups and fiercely attacked the capital.

At least that's what the Marquis of Kurmann said. After losing a third of his troops and being forced to flee to Dorgnitzburg with less than 20,000 remnants, he began to publicize the incident extensively. As for how he was defeated, ah, that was not important.

According to calculations by those in the capital, Belvaldo's forces should already be approaching Gular Castle, an important outpost on the empire's perimeter. Gular Castle typically garrisoned only three to five thousand troops, making it one of the castles with the largest permanent military presence, but according to Kurman, these soldiers were simply not enough to satisfy their needs.

However, was it too late to send reinforcements to Gularburg at this point? But the shrewd people in the capital quickly came up with a good plan: to send Kurman's troops to provide support immediately. At the same time, they began mobilizing forces and sending messages to other dukes and marquises, urging them to send troops and supplies as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Donic Castle remained brightly lit every night for the past few days. Serena frowned, looking sullen as she watched the news pouring in from all around her.

"The capital's demand is indeed outrageous! How are we supposed to supply 20,000 people? What are we going to use to do that?!" Philby was really getting worked up. The worst part was that the order was followed by some infuriating threats.

Newrent and Luke pulled Philby back to his seat, one on each side. The request was indeed unreasonable, but complaining about it now wouldn't solve anything.

"Philby, you've become irritable lately? Is something wrong?" Arthas tapped the table, asking in annoyance.

Philby slumped back in his chair, remaining silent, but his eyes were fixed on Blake across from him. "How could you accept such a request?" Philby continued.

“Alright, Philby, I know why you’re so angry. It’s because you heard that the Lunlang family’s troops are also going to Dorgnitzburg. I understand how you feel.” Blake sighed softly. “If we could refuse this order, we would have done so already. After all, I’m the one who’s most worried. I’m the one in charge of procuring supplies!”

“It’s definitely impossible to gather enough provisions. Gathering provisions for 20,000 people for ten days in three days isn’t setting a task; it’s deliberately making things difficult,” Nyrent said with dissatisfaction.

"Then what are we going to do? Just stop gathering supplies and wait to be purged after the war?" Arthas glared at Nuremt and said with great dissatisfaction.

"Stop arguing, Yunzhe, what are your thoughts?" Andrew noticed that everyone at the table was quite agitated, so he decisively shifted their attention.

Yun Zhe was lost in thought. When he learned of this unreasonable order, it was as if he was seeing those palace dramas from before he transmigrated. The little schemes and tricks in them really gave him a sense of déjà vu.

"Well, I think it's better to disobey this order. If we succeed this time, there will be even more difficult tasks in the future, and one day we will be stuck with some order and unable to complete them." Yun Zhe said hurriedly when he saw everyone looking at him.

“But those threats…” Arthas said with some concern.

"Ah, that's easy. First, write two letters, one to Kurman and one to Sald. The main content of the letter to Duke Sald should be to complain and tell him about your difficulties and troubles. Then, in the letter to Kurman, tell him that you can gather ten days' worth of military rations in three days, but it will take at least two days to send the rations from here, so please wait two or three more days for all the rations to reach Dorgnitzburg. Please understand."

“Well, I understand complaining; it’s just a way of showing loyalty. As for the other letter…” Philby asked, somewhat puzzled.

Newton couldn't help but want to criticize Yun Zhe's method as utterly nonsensical, but given that he had already been reprimanded that day and Yun Zhe's current high status, he managed to hold back.

“Oh, he won’t wait. We don’t have much time left, and he has even less.” Yun Zhe spread his hands. “He will be under even more pressure. If we wait here for five days, Gular will probably have already changed hands.”

"Wouldn't that give them even more ammunition, claiming that our failure was due to the untimely delivery of grain?!" Nuremberg finally couldn't hold back any longer and shouted.

The others nodded in agreement, all agreeing that Yun Zhe's actions were problematic.

“We have no problem. We did manage to gather ten days’ worth of provisions in three days. It’s just that the other side couldn’t wait. The order only said to gather provisions in three days, but it didn’t say that the provisions would be delivered in three days. Their inability to wait is their problem, but their inability to gather provisions is our problem.”

“That makes sense, but it feels too far-fetched,” Arthas stroked his beard, his expression still uneasy.

“What if he’s willing to wait these three days?” Andrew asked tentatively.

“Then send as much as you can, as long as it’s enough for ten days, it doesn’t matter anymore.” Yun Zhe stood up. “Because if Marquis Kurman is willing to wait, then he obviously doesn’t intend to defend the country, but has other plans.”

"You're making up excuses again, Yun Zhe. What you're saying is just your own conjecture, isn't it?" Seeing that his questioning hadn't caused any backlash, Newton became even bolder.

“Well, actually there’s a fundamental problem here, which is that nobody believes that so much grain can be gathered in three days. You and I don’t believe it, the capital doesn’t believe it, and Marquis Kurman certainly won’t believe it.” Yun Zhe went to the map in the hall and drew a thick line between Fort Dorgnitz and Fort Gular with charcoal.
