Chapter 276 Preparation

In the highest tower of Donic Castle, Serena, dressed in her pajamas, was wide awake. She stared intently at the scroll on the table not far away, hoping to see some unexpected changes on it.

Time passed second by second. Serena tossed and turned in bed, occasionally jumping off the bed to run to the table, pick up the scroll to examine it, then sigh, put the scroll down, and run back to bed to continue tossing and turning.

After this happened several times, the scroll finally emitted light.

Serena was overjoyed. She practically pounced, knocking over a chair and slumping onto the table. Slowly, she unrolled the scroll. The handwriting on it was the familiar Xixi's, which eased Serena's anxiety slightly. She was eager to know Yun Zhe's attitude, but Xixi seemed to be playing a joke on her, starting to talk about the plague in Donic last year. This left Serena speechless. She wanted to see the answer she was looking for, but didn't want to interrupt Xixi, so she could only suppress her emotions and read on bit by bit.

But as she read line by line what Xixi had written to her, Serena's restless heart gradually calmed down. Xixi's words were like a loom, showing her how an exquisite web was woven. Although the last sentence was one that Serena knew Yunzhe was hesitant to fully grasp, Serena understood that it was, in fact, the truth.

After reading the scroll, Serena stood frozen in place. She remembered the departure of her parents and brother, the days she had spent like a stray dog, and the almost miraculous experiences of the past six months. A voice echoed repeatedly in Serena's heart.

"Serena, do you want to resist? Do you want to take revenge?" If the world is really controlled by an invisible force as Yun Zhe said, then as Yun Zhe asked in his letter, do you want to fight back?

Meanwhile, in the conference room of Dorgnitzburg, everyone was also staring at the scroll beside Xixi, waiting for Serena's reply.

Meanwhile, Yun Zhe found Ji Ding, who had hidden to the side, and began to learn about the story of King Aruru, Nemo.

Ellie and Jerok whispered to each other at the front door. Unlike the others who wore expressions of worry, they seemed to feel a strange excitement. They had never imagined such a grand and ingenious scheme existed, and being caught in the middle of it all felt like finding new amusement in their dull vampire lives.

The three of them rarely got together, and while looking at the scroll next to Xixi, they discussed training, patrols, equipment, and other issues.

Time ticked by, and the group discussed for a long time, until Xixi kept yawning, but they still hadn't received a reply from Serena.

Yun Zhe and Ji Ding had already finished their conversation. Now, he was staring at the scroll, worried that Serena might surrender and compromise directly. That would be awkward. He had just managed to unite everyone and encourage them to put up a fight by analyzing the pros and cons. If Serena were to compromise, all his hard work would be for nothing.

But then I thought, even if it's a waste, it's not a waste. Even if we all go to destruction, it's different to have companions or not.

Yun Zhe looked at the others. Apart from Jerok and Ellie, who seemed relaxed, the others were somewhat nervous.

Xixi was already slumped over the table, tilting her head to look at the scroll not far away. Usually at this time, she would already be dreaming.

The scroll flashed, and Xixi's eyes lit up. She opened the scroll, but only saw one line of text.

"Lord Yunzhe, please come to Donic Castle for a face-to-face meeting, Blake." The handwriting was not Serena's either; it was clearly written by Blake himself.

Yun Zhe stroked his chin and glanced at Xi Xi.

Xi Xi remained calm. She didn't see anything wrong with Blake replying to her letter. It was only right to talk to Blake about something so important. However, she was a little annoyed that Serena had Blake reply to her letter.

"Hey, what's Black's attitude towards the Duke of Field's letter?"

Xi Xi packed her things and thought for a moment. "He was very unhappy. He said that the Duke of Fields was meddling too much... Anyway, he said a lot, but that's roughly what he meant."

Yun Zhe felt a little relieved. "Then let's set off now. We should be able to reach Donicburg by tomorrow evening."

"Huh?" Xixi was stunned for a moment. She stared at Yun Zhe, thinking that Yun Zhe was joking with her.

"My lord, Miss Xixi is too tired. Why don't you rest for a while and leave tomorrow morning?" Gao thought Yun Zhe was making things difficult for Xixi, so he quickly ran over to smooth things over.

Yun Zhe did not follow his words, but directly ordered, "Gao, prepare a carriage, and in addition to the guards, prepare four more horses. By the way, all the guards should also be on two horses."

Gao was taken aback; Yun Zhe was determined to leave tonight. He looked at Xi Xi, hoping she could accept this reality.

Xi Xi pouted, "I'm not riding in the carriage with you!"

“I won’t take the carriage; that’s for you,” Yun Zhe said, returning to the table, glancing around, and rolling up a map. Then he looked back at everyone present. “Jiding, you’re coming with me!”

"My lord, when will you be back?" Gao asked quickly.

Yun Zhe paused, "Gao, do you remember the armor I asked you to buy? Select three hundred outstanding and loyal soldiers from the current infantry; the armor will be their reward. The remaining soldiers will form a three-hundred-man city defense patrol team, and the others will be taken by Gerlock to form a mercenary group and gain experience." Yun Zhe paused again, "Oh, right, the new houses for the refugees also need to be built quickly. We can hire them to repair the city walls, or we can ask Gerlock, but we'll have to pay them at the mercenary rate."

Then Yun Zhe looked at Morrison and Brad, "The city defense force will be managed by Gao, the selected infantry will be managed by Morrison, and the cavalry... Brad, how many cavalry do we have now?"

"Your Excellency, there are three or four hundred men who can ride horses, but only about half of them can truly be considered cavalry."

"Gather two hundred men, and dismiss everyone else to hand over to Jerok. Oh, and by the way, two horses per person, make sure there are enough horses."

Then Yun Zhe walked to the door with the map under his arm, patted Jerok on the shoulder and said, "Take those men out and find some work. Scouting, guarding, whatever. Train them more. Anyone who disobeys will be dealt with according to military law!"

After Yun Zhe finished arranging these things, he hurriedly left with the reluctant Xi Xi, leaving the people in the room looking at each other in bewilderment. Yun Zhe had only assigned the task, but clearly, things were not as simple as Yun Zhe had said.

Especially Jerok, who became the leader of the largest mercenary group without even saying a word. And Yun Zhe didn't even name the mercenary group before leaving! Say something more, what do you mean by this?
