Chapter 277 Third Encounter with Akdina

Yun Zhe sat outside the carriage, enduring the jolting under the swaying carriage lights as he flipped through a vampire diary.

Things were developing more and more in the direction Yun Zhe had guessed, except for one thing: they seemed to be getting anxious.

Logically speaking, they shouldn't be in a hurry. Even if we don't become the third springboard for their attack as they planned, Aruru's attack hasn't even started yet. It will take time to shift the aggro from the attack to the elves. They could even do it simultaneously, let alone now when things are still very uncertain.

Unless something unexpected happens that forces them to speed up or ensure the place is absolutely safe.

"So what exactly provoked them? Could it be this alliance agreement?" Yun Zhe rubbed his temples, feeling that he was overthinking things. He already knew enough for now, and he would talk about the rest after meeting Serena and the others.

Thinking alone can easily lead to a vicious cycle, but thinking together with others can yield better conclusions and perspectives.

Yun Zhe closed his eyes to rest, trying to piece together everything he knew, hoping to find something he might have forgotten. Inside the carriage, Xi Xi's even breathing could be heard. The night was dark and the wind was strong, but thankfully the moon was bright enough to allow the carriage to travel at a faster pace.

On either side of the carriage were twenty Aluru mercenaries, whom Yun Zhe had just finished training. During the shift change, Cyrus left fifty Aluru mercenaries behind, saying they wanted to continue learning from Yun Zhe. At the time, Yun Zhe noticed Cyrus's emotional fluctuations, but didn't think about it further.

In retrospect, these fifty men were probably more like a form of atonement for Cyrus, leaving behind some soldiers to protect himself, as a way of redeeming himself for concealing the truth.

Yun Zhe hummed with his eyes closed.

Donic Castle hasn't changed much; since the last fire, it has only been partially restored. However, as a large castle in the rear that hasn't experienced war, it has become lively after receiving a large number of refugees.

Black cleverly employed Yun Zhe's methods, making land clearing, house construction, and even castle building a means to obtain permanent residency in Donic. Everyone who obtained residency received a property within Donic Castle. This measure was extremely effective, quickly selling out all the houses in Donic. Those who acquired land began hiring other craftsmen to repair their houses, and during this time, these tenants took care of their food, clothing, and lodging near the castle. Before long, Donic Castle returned to its former bustling state.

Akdina lay on a hotel bed, resting with her eyes closed. She had spent many days at Donic Castle, eager to experience the charm of the Winter Solstice Festival. Although the festival was different from what she had imagined, the joyful atmosphere and the enthusiastic people still made her quite happy.

Today is her last day at the hotel. Tomorrow she will leave Fort Donic and continue northeast to the new home of the Aruru people.

At midnight, Akdina, lying in bed, suddenly heard a muffled thud from next door. It sounded like someone had fallen to the floor.

Akdina held her breath, opened her eyes, and listened quietly.

"Damn it, what is that?" a hoarse male voice rang out.

"Why are you so late? That's my secret mechanism, a clothes rack. Put it away properly." Another deep voice rang out, followed by the sound of wood hitting the floor from next door.

"You think I wanted this? I just got word that Blake went to the Earl's place, things might have changed," the hoarse voice continued.

“Blackburn has no objection to our proposal. Didn’t he say he would go and persuade the Earl tomorrow? Is he already impatient?”

"Don't get your hopes up. A guy like Blake won't easily change his plans. If he does, there's only one possibility: something unexpected has happened to them. Think about what if they disagree in the end." The hoarse voice was noticeably louder, as if he had walked to the wall.

"What else can we do? Are we going to have another plague?" The deep voice revealed obvious helplessness.

"Damn it, I can't handle Yun Zhe, and now the Earl is unpredictable. How am I supposed to go back and explain this?"

Akdina suddenly opened her eyes, and her whole body became alert.

"They said they weren't in a hurry when they came, but now they're rushing us. What kind of situation is this? They weren't prepared at all." The deep voice was full of complaints.

The hoarse voice paused for a moment, then lowered its voice and said, "I heard that the assassination attempt on Yun Zhe failed, and they are thinking of a different method. It is said that they discovered a vampire around Yun Zhe and want to start from there."

"Huh!? There's actually such a thing? It's probably just a made-up excuse to cover up the failure."

"Hmph, that's hard to say."

Akdina quietly sat up in bed, stepped off as gently as possible, and leaned against the wall.

A flapping sound rang out, and a hoarse voice became impatient: "Quick, open the window! Quick, that's my bird!"

After a creaking sound, the distinctive call of a raven rang out.

After a few minutes of silence, the hoarse voice rang out again, this time he even forgot to lower his voice.

"Oh no! Yun Zhe is on his way to Donic Castle! He must be here to persuade the Earl. I heard that the Earl's little girl listens to him the most."

"Keep your voice down!" The deep voice was clearly anxious. Then Akdina heard a click, followed by footsteps approaching the wall.

"Luckily it's getting late. But what should we do? Ambush them on the way?"

"That's the only way. Don't sleep, hurry up and think of an explanation to see if you can better persuade Blake. I'll go make the arrangements now."

"Let's go, let's go, be careful not to get killed by Yun Zhe!"

"Don't worry, by the way, put away that clothes hanger of yours. If someone really wanted to kill you, that clothes hanger wouldn't be able to stop them!"

"Don't worry about me. Yun Zhe is not easy to kill. Think about how they all failed..."

"Hmph, have you forgotten who came with me? Genri!" A hoarse voice rang out after a click. "Don't worry, no one can escape the messenger of death."

Akdina quickly ran to the door, listening to the sounds in the corridor. The soft footsteps gradually faded away. Akdina then ran to the window and looked down. After a while, a richly dressed man walked out of the inn. He looked around, then walked straight to a carriage across the street and headed out of the city.

Akdina quickly processed the information she had heard, and without a second thought, leaped from the balcony onto the roof and rushed toward the carriage.
