Chapter 7 Shadows of the Past

Yun Zhe was having a headache, but there were already hurried footsteps outside the door. Yun Zhe punched Wood unconscious and quickly went to the door to see what was happening.

The lights in several nearby houses were noticeably brighter. There were faint shadowy figures moving about at the doorways. More people were also beginning to make their way through the village.

Yun Zhe couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed. The two corpses on the ground hadn't been dealt with yet. If they were discovered, things could get complicated.

Yun Zhe looked at the people in the distance, then at the two corpses in front of him. Suddenly, Yun Zhe rushed forward and with two swift strokes, severed the necks of the two men, also tearing apart the bite marks on their bodies. If one did not look closely, one would definitely not be able to see them.

Yun Zhe quickly returned to the house. Staring at the fat man slumped on the floor, he racked his brains trying to figure out how to handle the situation.

Village chief Richard, an old man about the same age as John, only looking more than ten years younger. The old man was used to a leisurely life, going to bed at sunset and getting up at sunrise every day.

I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep tonight.

The old man already knew about John's family, but how could a village chief disobey the second son of his lord, the baron? Besides, the village was the baron's second son's fiefdom. It was just a pity about John's granddaughter... But things didn't end as he expected. The old man estimated the time and sent his son to investigate, but when he returned, he was told that two people had collapsed at old John's doorstep. The son didn't dare to approach to see what had happened and could only return to let him decide.

Richard scolded his son a few times, then sat down in his chair, tapping his fingers on the armrest as he pondered.

Time ticked by, and after more than half an hour, Richard finally made up his mind and headed to Old John's house with his men.

As Richard approached his doorstep, he saw the figure lying on the ground and could smell a faint odor of blood.

Suddenly a dark shadow flashed by, paused abruptly over the two figures lying on the ground, and then disappeared back into Old John's house.

Everyone stopped in their tracks, horrified to witness what they had just seen.

This is so weird...it's really weird.

But in his panic, Richard was reminded of a childhood memory.

He was fifteen or sixteen that year, a vibrant and fearless age. That evening, behind his father's back, he secretly drank a bottle of wine and went to find his sweetheart for a romantic get-together. When it was time to part, they lingered there, reluctant to leave.

The two walked through the woods on their way back to the village. The moonlight was beautiful, and the breeze was cool. Richard held the girl's slender waist, gently kneading it, thoroughly enjoying himself.

There were some figures moving in the woods in the distance. Richard frowned, pulled the girl behind a big tree, and quietly observed them.

The girl and he stood close together, inevitably leading to another round of teasing.

But things were much stranger over there in the woods.

Richard, while enjoying the softness in his hands, looked outside and saw shadowy figures and the sound of a woman's giggling.

Had they run into some other young people out having fun? Richard and the girl exchanged a smile and became even more unrestrained.

A sudden gust of cold wind swept by, ruining their good mood. The girl tightened her clothes, becoming inexplicably nervous. Richard also sensed that the atmosphere had suddenly changed and released his hand from the girl's body.

Richard peered into the woods ahead, where a dark figure suddenly appeared, standing where the sound had come from. Then, the figure moved swiftly, flashing past with incredible speed, followed by a woman's terrified scream...

Richard shook his head, trying to clear his mind of the unpleasant memories. What happened afterward was hazy, but he remembered what the old people had said. They said the shadowy figure was a demon, a demon that fed on people's blood, known as a vampire.

"If it really is a vampire, it will be easier. Although we will have to spend some money to hire people from the church to deal with it later, it will still be much better than the current situation."

Richard glanced at his timid son beside him, his anger rising. He slammed his cane on the ground and, taking advantage of his impending death, strode forward.

The two men were decapitated, their blood flowing everywhere, their deaths gruesome.

The old man looked into the house, where the light flickered. A moment later, a young woman carrying an oil lamp came out of the house.

The girl's voice trembled as she cried out to the people outside, "Someone...someone has kidnapped the lord's second son..."

The village chief's head buzzed and exploded.
