Yun Zhe looked at the two people on the ground, then at Wood lying on the horse's back. "Didn't you just celebrate your birthday and come of age, and get your first territory? Then your brother came back and told you you had the right to your first night, and then you set off with great enthusiasm?"
Wood looked up blankly. He had indeed just celebrated his birthday yesterday. To celebrate his coming of age, his father had given him a village as his fief. His brother had also returned yesterday, and he had only learned about the right of first night by pestering his brother about the benefits of being a lord.
"How do you know everything?" Wood was heartbroken, and a great fear filled his heart.
"Is my brother going to kill me?" Wood cried out in despair.
Yun Zhe shrugged again, thinking to himself, "Isn't this obvious?"
Brothers fighting amongst themselves—what a tragedy!
"Besides your brother, do you have any other siblings?"
"A younger sister, an older sister," Wood suddenly raised his head, his face filled with pain and pleading. "Save me! Please!"
Yun Zhe was really in a bind this time. Save you? How can I save you? I've only been in this world for less than three days. I'm still a newbie, and right from the start, I'm caught up in this palace intrigue drama about vying for the throne. This is way too difficult.
Yun Zhe has always been a good kid who aligns with Avery's values. He studies diligently and attentively, his mind filled with the teachings of sages and the laws of science. He has absolutely no knowledge of human scheming or intrigue. He's the kind of simple, good person who can't even understand third-rate palace dramas.
However, being a college student from Avery University, although not particularly cunning, her thinking and judgment abilities were still quite good.
After much thought, Yun Zhe realized that the only variable tonight was himself.
What to do, what to do? Suddenly faced with this situation, Yun Zhe was completely clueless. For a recent college graduate, this question was way beyond his syllabus.
Yun Zhe looked up at the sky; the Milky Way shone brightly, and the moonlight was gentle. The night sky was beautiful, but it held no answers.
He sought help from Avery's alumni, but all he received in return was the endless night wind.
Yun Zhe could only silently recite the school motto of Avery University. It was his habit to recite the motto when he encountered problems. Although it might not provide an answer, it would at least calm him down.
Yun Zhe suddenly thought of the world history course he had taken in his freshman year. Why would a science student choose such a humanities course? Yun Zhe still felt a lot of emotions when he thought about it now.
Alfred showed a strong preference for freshmen, requiring them to take six elective courses in their first year, which was simply unthinkable at the time. Due to excessive drinking on his first day of school, Yun Zhe struggled to get up at two or three in the afternoon on the second day, while the deadline for elective courses was five in the afternoon.
As a result, Yun Zhe became the last person in the dormitory to select courses. After seeing that there were only six elective courses left out of more than thirty on the computer screen, Yun Zhe had no choice but to passively select those six options, one of which was world history.
If there were only five options left, I don't even want to think about what would have happened.
Yun Zhe clapped his hands, repeating the action he had taken after selecting his courses. "If only I had one more course to choose from back then," Yun Zhe muttered to himself.
"One more subject, one more subject..." Yun Zhe muttered to himself as he clapped his hands lightly. An idea suddenly flashed into his mind, but it was so fleeting that Yun Zhe didn't grasp it immediately.
Wood, on horseback, wasn't as calm as Yun Zhe. His buttocks hurt, and he felt blood flowing from where he'd been shot. Although he was a spoiled brat, he still knew the common sense that excessive blood loss could be fatal. He raised his hands and, with his bound hands, forcefully pushed against Yun Zhe's back.
"Should we go back to the village first..."
"No, we need to get back to your home quickly. If I'm not mistaken, your parents might also be in danger. Tonight, there can only be one winner... there should only be one winner."
Wood bit his lip, clearly struggling with his thoughts. Yun Zhe ignored him, walked behind him, and swiftly pulled out the arrow, causing Wood to howl in pain again. Yun Zhe took a bottle of wine from his storage bag, poured it onto the wound, then tore off the hem of Wood's clothes and used it to bandage the wound.
Yun Zhe walked into the woods again, picked up the crossbow, and took the quiver from the corpse, slung it over his shoulder, and confidently led his horse away.
Learning from history helps us understand rise and fall. During his four years of university, Yun Zhe had complained more than once about the sheer number of elective courses at Avery University, so many that they encroached on his personal time. But at this moment, Yun Zhe couldn't help but feel grateful for those electives, even grateful for the version of himself who had no classes to choose from because of drinking.
"If you were to kill your brother, would you hesitate?"
Wood didn't speak. His mind was racing, a jumble of thoughts swirling together in a chaotic mess. He didn't know how to face it or how to answer.
Yun Zhe sighed softly, thinking to himself, "It's true what they say, the bystander sees most of the game..."
