The poet looked up in surprise and saw that familiar figure.
A woman was standing in the distance; although her face was not clearly visible, she must have been a beautiful woman.
Without wasting words, Yun Zhe pulled out a thin wooden stake used by hunters, carefully examined the broken bone, straightened it out, and then used a rope to tie the stake and the broken leg together, securing them firmly.
The poet gaped, he had never seen such a technique before.
"Did you understand?" Yun Zhe asked after settling Jess in.
The poet nodded. He couldn't understand how a vampire could bandage his wounds and remain so calm in a place filled with blood.
Perhaps he was mistaken; perhaps he wasn't actually a vampire at all. At this thought, the poet blushed and then regretted his actions.
Yun Zhe pulled out five or six thin wooden stakes from behind him and pointed to the several people around him who were still groaning. "Split up and take care of the wounded."
The poet nodded mechanically, stopped his random thoughts, got up, grabbed two thin wooden stakes, and walked away into the distance.
"I've killed all those vampires. You're safe now. Hurry up and get on your way." Yun Zhe's voice wasn't loud, but it was enough for the surrounding Aruru people to hear.
The poet was even more confused. "You two killed so many vampires? But wait, didn't you kill a group of vampire hunters just a few days ago?" But he didn't dwell on it. He got up and, like Yun Zhe, began to treat the other wounded.
Although only six with broken legs remain, there are at least ten Aruru people in the forest.
Yun Zhe checked the poet's condition. He had to admit, he really did have a knack for rescue work. The surrounding Aruru people emerged from the forest. Yun Zhe glanced around and saw that the farmer was still alive, but Rousi and the blacksmith were nowhere to be seen.
Yun Zhe stood up, when suddenly a strong wind rose behind him, and an Aluru suddenly jumped onto his back and sent the wooden stake he was holding flying.
The direction of the wooden stake is Yun Zhe's heart.
Yun Zhe jerked to the side, the wooden stake piercing his shoulder blade, and the Aluru man opened his mouth to bite Yun Zhe's throat. But he was too late. Yun Zhe had already grabbed his right shoulder and slammed him to the ground. He then stepped on the Aluru man's chest.
The sudden change startled the Aruru people, who quickly retreated back into the forest.
Yun Zhe pulled out a crossbow bolt and fired twice, pinning the Aruru man's hands to the ground. But the man's eyes were bloodshot, and he still struggled, stretching out his head as if trying to bite Yun Zhe.
An Aruru vampire.
Yun Zhe instantly understood that this ambush was not a spur-of-the-moment decision by the vampires, but a premeditated attack from within and without.
Ellie carefully pulled the thin wooden stake from Yun Zhe's shoulder. There was no blood, but Yun Zhe knew that the attack had actually been blocked by the mithril armor.
The vampire at Yun Zhe's feet was still laughing wildly, seemingly enjoying his attack. His crimson eyes revealed an almost insane mockery, as if he was trying to provoke Yun Zhe so that he would die a quick death.
"What a scoundrel," Yun Zhe sighed.
Yun Zhe fired several more crossbow bolts, pinning the vampire to the ground. He glanced at the Aluru's hands; his right hand was gloved. Yun Zhe chopped off the right hand with his sword. The vampire let out a painful howl.
Yun Zhe picked up his hand and, sure enough, there was a small gold ring on the finger under the glove.
Yun Zhe sneered and took the ring off.
The vampire continued to howl and writhe, but he could no longer get up. His body was riddled with crossbow bolts and thin wooden stakes, all driven into his joints, pinning him firmly to the ground.
Aruru the vampire's attack suddenly unsettled Yun Zhe. He had just been wondering what his original body looked like, and now this was a ready-made example, showing him the true appearance of his body. Such a direct visual stimulus was hard for Yun Zhe to accept.
In particular, Yun Zhe was furious about his infiltration of the Aruru people to kill his compatriots from within.
"Have you ever done anything similar before?" Yun Zhe asked silently in his mind.
He was met with endless silence.
Yun Zhe sighed, "Fine, I'll pretend you didn't do it and won't bother answering."
