Ninety-seven Hamelin, with nowhere to retreat

Everyone was startled by this scene. Although they could clearly sense that the vampire had left, they still dared not let their guard down and cautiously looked around.

Lorraine picked up Usa and handed her to Gao, then began to examine the long-legged corpse.

There's really nothing to see, just a wound and then dripping blood.

Yun Zhe quickly stepped aside; the scene was too stimulating for him. It wasn't like the bloodshed of a battlefield; this was another version of himself drinking someone's blood right before his eyes. It was like a gluttonous feaster watching another gluttonous feast before him. It was hard for the gluttonous one watching the meal to remain calm.

Yun Zhe retreated step by step, almost until he was behind everyone, which indeed attracted everyone's attention.

It seems the vampire had a huge impact on Yun Zhe, causing this knight, who never retreated on the battlefield, to completely back down. Everyone looked at Yun Zhe with understanding eyes, believing he was simply frightened by the scene before him.

Lorraine walked helplessly toward Yun Zhe. Having encountered a vampire, the decision of how to handle it was ultimately up to him. However, Yun Zhe's retreat only gave Lorraine a more comprehensive understanding of him.

"Is this the first time you've seen a scene like this?" Lorraine patted Yun Zhe on the back affectionately.

Yun Zhe nodded; he also thought Lorraine's conjecture was quite a good reason.

"You see them often?" Yun Zhe swallowed hard and asked in a hoarse voice.

“I’ve seen you a few times. I used to be a wandering knight, and I’ve encountered all sorts of terrible situations in the wild.” Lorraine shrugged and began to look around.

Yun Zhe stood beside Luo Lin, whose back was to him. Luo Lin's neck was so vulnerable, dangling right in front of Yun Zhe's eyes.

Yun Zhe suddenly squatted down, covered his head with his hands, and tried to suppress his bloodthirsty urge.

"Are you... are you alright..." Lorraine felt that Yun Zhe's reaction was a bit excessive.

"Go check the other bodies and arrange for the soldiers to be on guard. I'll be there in a bit." Yun Zhe's voice was sometimes hoarse and sometimes normal, which was quite strange.

Lorraine wanted to look at him again, but Yun Zhe suddenly shouted, "Go!"

Lorraine frowned, shook her head, and left Yun Zhe.

Yun Zhe curled up on the ground, waging a fierce battle against the bloodthirsty urge within him. He gasped for breath; he had to suppress this desire, or else he would be utterly destroyed.

"What to do, what to do, what to do!"

Yun Zhe clutched his head tightly, as if enduring some kind of pain. He thought about everything that had happened since he left Donic City, about what had happened tonight: the heavy rain, the strange bandits, the vampires. Could there be some connection between them?

Yun Zhe discovered that when he thought about these questions, his bloodlust diminished considerably.

These bandits and vampires are in cahoots, which seems highly probable. If so, when were we first targeted?

Yun Zhe thought about it carefully, and gradually, the bloodlust disappeared, and he returned to normal.

Yun Zhe stood up, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. He was back to his original self. He gripped the hilt of his sword, looked at the unlit village, at the river, and at the distant woods.

Although many things are still unclear, one thing seems certain: they've been targeted by vampires. Tonight might be the final battle; if he doesn't pull himself together, he might be the only one left when the sun rises tomorrow. Oh, the only vampire left.

"We must take action. Whatever the reason these vampires are after them, whether it's for revenge or simply to hunt, we must find them and ensure their safety, at least tonight, at least tonight."

Yun Zhe looked at the torches and lights burning in the distant stables and silently made a vow.

As Debini watched Akdina stagger back from afar, a strange feeling suddenly surged within him. If his mother hadn't been in the carriage not far behind him, he would have rushed over.

As he drew closer, Debini noticed that Akdina's white clothes were stained with large patches of blood. He sniffed sharply; the sight was too much. Even though he was already full, Debini still felt a strong urge to bleed.

"How did you get so disheveled, my dear Akdina? You've always been the cleanest person around." Debini stretched out his arms and walked towards the elven vampire, but when he was about to touch the bloodstained clothes, he hesitated for a moment and finally only gave her a half-hearted hug. Then he kissed her bloodstained lips.

Akdina paused for a moment, letting Debini kiss her. But as Debini's hands began to roam over her body, Akdina stopped him.

Debini looked at Akdina with some surprise. Akdina had rejected him for the first time.

Akdina glanced at him and took a step back. "I encountered a vampire in that village up ahead."

Debbini was visibly alarmed. They had fled Dorin overnight to escape the unknown vampire forces launching a massive attack. Now, encountering vampires again made Debbini's heart race.

"Another new vampire?" Hamelin jumped out of the car. She glanced at Debenny with slight disdain, then looked at Akdina. The elven girl seemed to have a different aura at the moment.

“Listen to me, my girl, tell me everything you saw,” Hamelin said, his tone full of persuasion.

"A vampire is in the village ahead. He's with a lot of soldiers. He must be a vampire hiding in the army."

Hamelin's eyes lit up; this was interesting news.

"Is it the river valley village ahead?" Hamelin confirmed.

Akdina nodded.

Hamelin paced back and forth in front of the carriage. River Valley Village wasn't actually their destination, but it was clear the other side knew about the vampires nearby. While going around them wouldn't be a problem, Hamelin was worried that this vampire might not want to let things go, or that he was connected to the vampires who attacked them, or that this vampire had some other force behind him… Hadn't an unknown vampire attacked them recently, killing one of her children?

What she was really worried about was the two vampires who killed Rosen.

"No matter what, I have to find out where this vampire comes from," Hamelin muttered to herself. Now that things had come to this, Hamelin suddenly felt a surge of determination. She had no way out; no matter what, she would keep going, no matter who stood in her way.

She must live.
