Jerok gave Carrie a questioning look.
Carrie realized what was happening, but hesitated. After all, in Carrie's mind, the vampire who killed the vampire was a good vampire. Carrie was even more hesitant because Ellie seemed so good; she really didn't want to believe she was a vampire.
As for that Aluru vampire, he's rare, but considering the situation of that group of vampires attacking the Aluru, it seems to be out of revenge for the killing of his kind, making him seem like a better vampire.
Carrie's hesitation was understandable. The struggle between vampire hunters and vampires over the years hadn't always been a tense, black-and-white affair. A small number of vampires and hunters had very good relations. And countless temporary alliances had formed due to internal conflicts between vampires or hunters. So, should she expose a pair of vampires who had killed another vampire?
"You just said bloodline suppression?" Gerald waved his hand in front of Carrie's eyes. "Are you sure?"
“Um, I’m not sure…” Carrie answered hesitantly.
But Gerald clearly no longer believed it. He carefully examined the two women in front of him, and his intuition told him that they were both lying.
So the truth...
Jerok held out a hand. "Whether they are or not, let's try it tonight. Who wants to come with me?"
This forces them to make a choice.
Carrie hesitated, while Livia readily agreed. Her quick agreement made Gerald suspect she had some ulterior motive. Seeing Livia nod, Carrie also nodded in agreement.
Yun Zhe and Ellie were easy to find. They had just finished drinking and were heading towards the military camp outside the city. Seeing this, Gerald suddenly felt it was a golden opportunity. However, their carefree attitude made Gerald suspicious. After all, putting himself in the vampire's shoes, if he had come into contact with hunters like this tonight, he certainly wouldn't be so careless.
The three followed at a distance, while the four people ahead walked slowly, swaying unsteadily. Two of them seemed completely unaware of the enormous crisis that was about to befall them.
Jerok was getting anxious. If the other party really was a vampire, then the later it got, the more disadvantageous it would be for them. Just as he was getting anxious, the four people in front of him suddenly stopped.
They whispered among themselves, and soon after, Ellie left them and ran into the jungle.
Jerok felt a sense of unease; letting Ellie go like this didn't seem right, but he couldn't think of anyone else who would go with her. Rivia was definitely out of the question, and Carrie didn't seem very reliable either. But it didn't matter, Jerok silently told himself; he just needed to keep a close eye on one person.
Gerald looked back and saw that Livia and Carrie didn't seem to have any intention of leaving. This secretly reassured Gerald.
Yun Zhe and his two companions continued to walk unsteadily ahead. In the distance, they could see bright lights and faintly hear unfamiliar "one, two, one, one, two, one" sounds.
Jerok was puzzled, while the three people in front of him were even more astonished.
"Didn't you say it was a holiday? Why are there still people practicing?" Yun Zhe looked at the two drunk captains beside him.
"have no idea"
"I don't know."
Yun Zhe looked helpless. "You two shouldn't go into the military camp yet. Stay here at the Wake Up Bar. I'll go check on you."
Watching Yun Zhe walk alone towards the military camp, Gerald instructed Livia to prepare crossbows and test him properly.
In the military camp, Yun Zhe saw two squads of twenty men each, practicing the formation he had used.
When the soldiers saw Yun Zhe approaching, they stopped practicing, embarrassed. Just as Yun Zhe was about to ask a question, a crossbow bolt shot straight towards his back.
"Sir, be careful!" A soldier lunged forward to tackle Yun Zhe, but it was too late. Yun Zhe was struck in the back of the head by an arrow and fell forward.
Meanwhile, Jerok, who was not far away, was dumbfounded. He looked around and saw that the other two also had surprised expressions on their faces. They were indeed preparing to ambush Yun Zhe, and Livia's crossbow bolts were ready. However, they had not fired the bolts themselves. But at this moment, they didn't have time to ask each other, because the bolts had just happened to come out from behind them.
The soldiers quickly pinpointed the direction of the crossbow bolts. Although there were only forty men, they charged out with menacing force, weapons in hand. And the direction they were heading was precisely towards Gerald and his companions.
"It's over, this is completely inexplicable." Jerok and his two companions looked around. The dark forest was deserted, but the soldiers had already formed a fan shape and surrounded them. The soldiers were moving quickly, running towards the woods in a line, two to three meters apart.
Caroline, who drank less, was the first to react. He grabbed a soldier to find out what was going on, ran a few steps toward Yun Zhe, then turned back to borrow a long spear from the soldier and ran toward the woods with him. Gao, who was slow to react, stood up and staggered toward Yun Zhe after figuring out what was happening.
"These soldiers are really well-trained," Jelock only had time to utter this thought before turning and running away. But then a huge green light shone from Yun Zhe's body, startling Jelock and the other two into turning back to look.
“I know what that is… the Scroll of Restoration…” Livia looked at the green light in shock. The light was so bright and dazzling that… it could even shine on them.
The immense light erupting from the elven recovery scroll, like a giant green light bulb, quickly illuminated the forest. This meant that Gerald and his companions were now completely exposed to the soldiers. Although the light was fleeting, and they only caught a glimpse of three blurry figures, it was enough.
Unfortunately, Livia was also carrying a huge crossbow bolt.
After a brief moment of surprise, the soldier and the three others quickly understood the situation.
The soldiers found the perpetrators of the "ambush," who promptly turned and ran, further confirming their guilt.
For the first few seconds, Jerok considered whether to explain, but a few crossbow bolts shot in, completely dispelling his thoughts. These soldiers had no intention of capturing people; they really wanted to kill them.
"Don't kill them! Don't use crossbows! Capture them alive!" Caroline shouted.
Realizing their mistake, the soldiers put away their crossbows and ran even faster toward the three hunters.
Meanwhile, in the military camp, with the help of the recovery scroll, Yun Zhe had fully recovered and calmly watched the soldiers running into the distance.
Seeing that Yun Zhe had fully recovered, Gao, while marveling at the scroll's powerful restorative abilities, asked in his somewhat unclear voice, "My lord, who would want to assassinate you?"
Yun Zhe looked at Gao with a bitter face, "I want to know too. I'm just an Aruru, what kind of people would I offend?"
Gao wasn't suited to this kind of thinking. He scratched his head and said, "Sir, if you're safe now, I'll go help them catch those people too."
Yun Zhe stopped him abruptly, "No, stay here with me. Although I'm physically fine now, I'm still very anxious. I'll feel better if you're by my side."
Gao nodded, and then he saw Ellie rushing over.
