As the birdsong of dawn drifted in through the window, Yu Jiuyuan rolled over in Rong Shenghan's arms.
The lingering lower abdominal pain that had plagued me for five days had almost completely disappeared, leaving only a very faint, negligible aftertaste.
She blinked, her mind perfectly clear, and even her sense of smell became acute. The crisp ebony scent emanating from Rong Shenghan mingled with the floral fragrance carrying the damp earthy aroma drifting in from outside the window.
"Awake?" Rong Shenghan's voice came from the top of her head, carrying the languor of someone who had just woken up. His arms tightened unconsciously, pulling her closer into his embrace. "How are you feeling today?"
Yu Jiuyuan tilted her head back, her nose brushing against his jawline, where a bit of bluish stubble had sprouted, making her skin slightly itchy.
She smiled, her voice soft and gentle like the morning sun: "I'm alive again."
They really came back to life.
The excruciating pain she felt a few days ago was like a long drowning, but now, she has finally surfaced, stepping on the rocks at the bottom of the water, and is greedily breathing in the fresh air.
Rong Shenghan looked down at her. The morning light fell on her face, making the newly regained color stand out even more, and the curve of her eyes was full of a lively smile.
He raised his hand and gently pinched her cheek with his fingertips: "Are you hungry? There's some black-boned chicken soup in the kitchen."
"I want to drink what you cook." Yu Jiuyuan snuggled into his arms like a cat begging for food.
Rong Shenghan chuckled softly, the vibration of his chest transmitted through their skin, as gentle as a spring breeze: "Okay, I'll go cook."
As he stood up, Yu Jiuyuan grabbed his sleeve and wouldn't let go, her eyes sparkling: "Wait for me."
When I finished washing up and went downstairs, the restaurant was already occupied.
Xie Zhecheng was sitting at the dining table reading documents, a pen between his fingers, looking focused.
Hearing footsteps, he looked up and his gaze lingered on Yu Jiuyuan's face for two seconds. After confirming that her complexion had indeed improved a lot, he nodded slightly and said, "Good morning."
"Good morning, President Xie." Yu Jiuyuan pulled out a chair and sat down, glancing at the document labeled "Student Council Quarterly Plan" beside him, and casually asked, "Was yesterday's morning meeting successful?"
"Yes, it's progressing according to your previous plan." Xie Zhecheng closed the file and pushed a glass of warm milk in front of her. "Yuan Xu said this is good for girls."
As soon as she finished speaking, Yuan Xu came out of the kitchen, holding a transparent glass jar containing an amber-colored paste.
He placed the jar in front of Yu Jiuyuan and pushed up his glasses: "This is a medicinal ointment to regulate qi and blood. I made it according to an ancient prescription. Take a spoonful every morning, and it will help relieve menstrual cramps."
Yu Jiuyuan looked at the jar of ointment that emitted a faint medicinal fragrance and raised an eyebrow: "Dr. Yuan is online again?"
Yuan Xu rarely showed a hint of embarrassment: "It was just something I did on the spur of the moment."
Lin Yanran came downstairs just as they were finishing breakfast. Her hair was a little messy, and her eyes showed a hint of impatience, as if she hadn't woken up yet.
Upon seeing Yu Jiuyuan, he yawned, his tone still arrogant: "Looks like you're really better, your voice is loud again."
"Thanks to Secretary Torlin, I won't die." Yu Jiuyuan replied with a smile, handing him a freshly baked croissant.
Lin Yanran paused for a moment, then took it, tore off a corner and put it in her mouth. She didn't say anything more, but her ears turned red.
On the way to school, the atmosphere in the car was more relaxed than yesterday.
Yu Jiuyuan leaned back in the passenger seat, watching the cherry blossom trees flash by outside the window. The pink and white petals drifted down in the wind, like a gentle snowfall.
"There's a basketball game next week, and Lin Yanran has signed up," Rong Shenghan said casually, gripping the steering wheel.
Yu Jiuyuan turned to look at him: "Him?" In her memory, Lin Yanran had never been interested in such group activities.
"I heard that the Lin family patriarch wants to see him participate more in campus activities." Rong Shenghan smiled. "Do you want to go watch?"
“Go ahead.” Yu Jiuyuan nodded, tapping her fingertips lightly on her knee. “My people are competing, of course I have to go and support them.”
Her answer was frank and matter-of-fact, carrying the arrogance unique to young ladies.
Rong Shenghan glanced at her, his smile deepening.
Upon arriving at the entrance of Saint Sakura Academy, Ji Nianqin was encountered as soon as she got out of the car.
He was wearing the Saint Sakura Academy uniform, his posture was upright, and there was a gentle smile in his eyes. When he saw Yu Jiuyuan, he took the initiative to walk over: "Jiuyuan, are you feeling better?"
"I'm much better, thank you for your concern." Yu Jiuyuan smiled at him politely but distantly.
Ji Nianqin seemed used to her attitude and didn't care. She just pointed to the bulletin board not far away and asked, "I just saw the student council recruitment poster. Was it your idea?"
“Hmm, I want to inject some fresh blood into the student council.” Yu Jiuyuan followed his gaze. “What, is Ji interested?”
"Perhaps." Ji Nianqin smiled, her gaze sweeping over the ring on her ring finger, her eyes full of meaning. "After all, it is an honor to work with the president."
Rong Shenghan took a half step forward without making a sound, shielding Yu Jiuyuan behind him. His tone was gentle but carried an undeniable sense of boundaries: "We should go to the office now, Ji. Excuse me."
As Ji Nianqin watched their departing figures, the smile on her face slowly faded, and a complex emotion flickered in her eyes.
In the student council office, the pile of documents had been mostly processed.
Rong Shenghan made Yu Jiuyuan a cup of herbal tea and placed it beside her: "You don't have classes this morning, would you like to go to the lounge and lie down for a while?"
“No need.” Yu Jiuyuan flipped through a club activity logbook, her fingertips tracing the dense handwriting, then suddenly looked up at him, “Tonight…”
Rong Shenghan raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
"I want to eat your sweet and sour pork ribs tonight." Yu Jiuyuan blinked, swallowing back the second half of her sentence, "to make it up to you."
Some things don't need to be said explicitly; they understand each other implicitly.
Rong Shenghan chuckled and reached out to ruffle her hair: "Okay."
The sunlight outside the window was perfect, filtering through the gaps in the blinds and falling onto the tabletop, forming streaks of golden light.
Yu Jiuyuan leaned back in her chair, watching Rong Shenghan's profile as he worked on his documents, and felt a sense of relief.
The five-day ordeal finally came to an end, and those around her remained in their respective positions as usual.
Just like spring outside the window right now, after several spring rains, it has finally stretched out its branches and leaves, blooming in profusion and full of vitality.
