The aunt turned her gaze to Kang Kang, who was engrossed in his toys, and exclaimed sincerely, "This child is so good-looking, and he looks so clever and quick-witted. Look at how focused he is too."
"Yes, he inherited more of Su Shenglin's good genes."
My aunt turned around, patted my leg, and comforted me, "That's because you were born well and raised well."
"That's true," I shamelessly admitted.
My phone rang in my pocket.
I took it out and, unsurprisingly, it was Su Shenglin.
Although it's a new phone and a new number, I didn't save his number.
But those eleven digits are etched in my mind.
"He called, probably to pick up the kids." I told my aunt and answered the call.
"Hello."
"Are you at the hospital with your son?" Su Shenglin asked gently.
"Yes, but he's already seen his grandma. Where are you? I'll take him there." I was thinking that if Su Shenglin came over, he would inevitably run into his aunt again, which would be a bit awkward, so I thought I'd offer to take the child there.
"No need, I'll come pick you up."
"Pick us up?" I was taken aback.
"Yes," Su Shenglin said with certainty, "I'm picking you up with our son. My parents said they want to meet you."
I immediately tensed up. "Why? Are you going to criticize me for acting on my own initiative?"
"What are you panicking about?" Su Shenglin chuckled, his tone tinged with a hint of teasing. "You've already given birth, you've already kept it a secret, and now you're scared?"
"Who's scared? I just think there's no need to meet, to avoid awkwardness for both of us."
Actually, I am also grateful to Mrs. Su.
However, I was very certain of my own identity and knew that I was not worthy of the Su family, so I felt that there was no need for this meeting.
"Stop talking nonsense, I'm coming to pick you up, get ready." Su Shenglin didn't give me a chance to refuse, and hung up after saying that.
I put down my phone and looked at my aunt. "Su Shenglin said his parents want to see me and want me to go with the child."
My aunt frowned as well. "What does this mean? Does it mean they're going to accept you?"
"Impossible..." I shook my head; my intuition told me otherwise.
If it were so easy for a mother to gain status through her child, then what about my bitter breakup with Su Shenglin back then?
I don't know what the Su family means, but Su Shenglin won't give me a chance to escape.
Half an hour later, he arrived at the hospital and saw me and the child.
Because they had played together yesterday, the son still remembered this "uncle," so when Su Shenglin reached out to hug him, he naturally raised his arm and went over.
I felt a little jealous.
The bond between parents and children is truly amazing.
Even though they've never lived together, they were so warm and welcoming upon first meeting, and adapted and accepted each other so quickly.
Su Shenglin held his son in one arm and opened the back door with the other: "Get in the car."
I was still resisting, saying, "Do I really have to go? You can just take our son back."
"You want me to kidnap you?" he stared at me and blurted out.
I:"……"
Left with no other choice, I got into the car.
On the way, I asked him what his parents meant.
Su Shenglin said, "I don't know either. Anyway, they have mixed feelings about you having a baby. They told me this morning that they would pick you up when they pick up the baby."
I racked my brains, trying to come up with a solution.
As we approached Su Garden, I thought about Grandpa Su's health and asked, puzzled, "Why isn't Grandpa Su hospitalized? Have you given up on treatment?"
"It's too late to save him. What's the use of staying in the hospital? The old man has taken life and death lightly. He doesn't want to be intubated or undergo excessive treatment. He wants to leave home quietly and with dignity."
Su Shenglin said this calmly, but as I listened, my heart was in turmoil.
I have experienced the death of a loved one, and I know how painful, helpless, and even desperate that feeling can be.
Su Shenglin must have been feeling terrible too.
"Well...everyone has to go through this eventually." I sighed softly, speaking from the heart.
Standing outside Su Garden again, my feelings were extremely complicated.
When I left, I thought I would never set foot in this place again in my life.
Who would have thought that I would be back in just two short years?
Moreover, he was "invited" back by the Su family.
As soon as my son got out of the car, he spotted the koi swimming happily in the pond and excitedly turned around and shouted, "Mom, fish, fish, so big!"
He was clearly very efficient and experienced, but when he opened his mouth, he could only utter one or two words at a time, which made him sound a bit silly and adorable.
I stepped forward and grabbed him, afraid he would jump in to catch the fish.
"Yes, lots of fish, really big fish."
Su Shenglin stepped forward and picked up his son again. "Come on, let's go see Grandpa, Grandma, and Great-Grandpa. They'll be so happy to see Kang Kang."
I followed behind and reminded him, "He can walk by himself, so don't always carry him."
For the past year or so, I've been taking care of my child alone because I have limited energy and have to cultivate his independence.
Since my little one learned to walk, I've carried him less often; my body simply can't handle it.
I'm worried that Su Shenglin's constant holding will ruin the child's habits, and I'll be the one who suffers in the end.
But Su Shenglin acted as if he hadn't heard me at all, didn't respond to a single word, and simply picked up his son and left.
I felt annoyed, knowing he was doing it on purpose, but I didn't know what to say.
Upon seeing Mrs. Su and Mr. Su, I couldn't help but feel nervous again.
Two years have passed, and there is not a trace of time on the face of this wealthy socialite.
