Extra: Lu Yannan & Pei Mo Ning (3)
Howard Johnson's President's Office.
A week has passed since that meal.
Behind the large desk, Lu Yannan leaned back in a black leather chair with a calm expression.
He lowered his head slightly, his slender fingers sliding absentmindedly across the phone screen.
"...The guest list for tonight's reception has been confirmed and is here. Also, the speeches for the celebration banquet have been revised to your specifications..."
The assistant stood respectfully in front of the desk, reporting the subsequent itinerary in an orderly manner.
Lu Yannan didn't raise his eyes, but opened his family's chat group with his fingertips.
The screen was instantly filled with records of Lu Jianheng and Lu Chixu's bickering and quarreling, scrolling line by line, the content was trivial and childish.
A trace of helplessness flashed across his brows, making him feel annoyed. He slid his fingertips upwards decisively and exited the interface.
For some unknown reason, I clicked on Pei Mo Ning's profile picture.
The chat interface is too simple.
The latest record was three days ago, and it only contained two words in his reply: 'OK'.
With a slight movement of his fingertips, he clicked on her circle of friends.
Unexpected, yet seems to be reasonable.
Almost all that caught my eye were reposts of professional content: serious popular science articles on psychology, sharing of successful crisis intervention cases in cooperation with the police, and calls for public psychological assistance...
After scrolling through a few pages, the content remains the same.
No photos, no trivialities of life, no personal feelings.
Lu Yannan's fingers paused and did not move for a long time.
He frowned slightly, and his fingertips continued to slide down mechanically, and the circle of friends finally slid to the bottom.
The small text at the bottom clearly shows: Only the Moments from the last six months are displayed.
For a whole six months, apart from work, there was no trace of personal life.
A subtle thought quickly popped into my mind: Could it be that what she gave me was just a work number?
The assistant at the desk continued, "...Also, there's a lunch meeting scheduled with Mr. Zhang from H&D Group at 12:00 noon tomorrow, and then at 3:00 pm in Conference Room A on the 17th floor..."
Lu Yannan suddenly raised his head and interrupted the assistant's voice.
His movements were quick and decisive, and there was a subtle urgency in his tone: "Just send me the itinerary via email."
He paused, finally looking away from his phone, and added lightly, "You can go get busy first."
The assistant was slightly startled, then quickly recovered, bent his elbows naturally and held it securely at his side, nodding gently: "Okay, Mr. Lu."
When the assistant left, he closed the heavy door behind him, and there was a clear "click" sound from the door lock.
Lu Yannan was the only one left in the office.
The cold light of the phone illuminated his chiseled jawline.
The suspicion that was deliberately ignored became particularly clear in the suddenly quiet space.
Could it be that the number I added was really her work number?
His fingertips hovered above the chat box, hesitating to ask directly.
But considering that they had just met for a short time, he felt it was too presumptuous and abrupt.
So, Lu Yannan chose to attack indirectly.
Lu Yannan: [Your circle of friends is very professional.]
After sending it, Lu Yannan frowned.
This seemingly casual remark was almost equivalent to telling Pei Mo Ning that he had just looked through her circle of friends, which seemed a bit... overly concerned.
Regret suddenly flooded my heart.
He tapped the screen quickly several times.
Lu Yannan: [Withdraw a message.]
Pei Mo Ning had just seen off the last visitor of the day.
She stretched herself and picked up her phone.
The screen lit up, and I saw the message from Lu Yannan and the withdrawal prompt that followed.
Her eyebrows were slightly raised, and the corners of her lips couldn't help but curl up in a silent smile.
Pei Mo Ning did not point out his mistake, but tapped quickly on the screen with his slender fingers.
Pei Moning: [Private account, I don't have the habit of posting about my daily life.]
After sending the message, she paused for a moment and added another sentence.
Pei Moning: [Mr. Lu wants to know more, welcome to chat.]
Lu Yannan's phone beeped twice in succession.
His eyes fell on the two new replies sent by Pei Mo Ning.
First, I told him clearly that it was a "private number", which cleared up his confusion.
Article 2...
Lu Yannan subconsciously shifted his gaze slightly, his Adam's apple rolling silently.
The skin behind the earlobe was quietly stained with a barely noticeable layer of red.
He himself was a little surprised. They had just met and had only met twice, so why did he have the urge to know about her life?
This feeling was strange and a little invasive, and he didn't know how to respond for a moment.
I simply threw my phone on the desk.
As soon as the phone touched the table, my sister's exclusive ringtone rang.
Lu Yannan immediately picked up the phone again and slid his finger across the answer button: "Hello?" His voice was gentle, as if he was talking to his sister, with a hint of indulgence and doting, as if he was coaxing a child.
Lu Shiman's sweet and cheerful voice immediately came from the receiver: "Big Brother~" She dragged out her tone: "Are you coming home for dinner tonight? Someone sent a lot of beef to Second Brother. We're having beef hotpot tonight."
"There's a celebration party at the company tonight, so I can't go back." Lu Yannan explained gently, "Eat, eat more."
This sentence seemed to instantly open the valve for Lu Shiman to complain.
Her dissatisfied humming immediately echoed from the other end of the line, with a lingering accusation: "Brother, Second Brother won't let me eat more. He's so mean, he wants to starve me to death."
The tone of his voice sounded as if he had suffered a great injustice.
Lu Yannan patiently asked, "Why doesn't he let you eat more?"
He tapped the table unconsciously with his fingertips, but a smile appeared on his brow, as if he could imagine his sister's angry face on the other end of the phone.
"Hmph!" Lu Shiman snorted even louder. "My second brother said that I'm already as stubborn as a donkey. If I eat too much beef, I'll be like a donkey and a cow, stubborn and stupid."
Lu Yannan couldn't help but chuckle.
Although I felt a little apologetic, I inexplicably felt that the metaphor used by my younger brother... was very appropriate.
Lu Shiman on the other end of the phone keenly caught the laughter and immediately got angry: "Brother, you are still laughing at me!"
"No, no, haha..." Lu Yannan quickly restrained his smile, cleared his throat, and skillfully soothed: "I won't laugh at you anymore, I'll call and scold him later."
The clear supportive reply obviously hit Lu Shiman's sweet spot.
Her previous anger instantly disappeared, and her tone immediately became cheerful: "Hehe, okay, then big brother, drink less at the celebration party tonight and go home early."
Simple concern turned into a warm current, gently flowing through Lu Yannan's heart.
"Okay, got it. Bye."
Putting down his phone, he leaned back in his chair and the office fell silent.
The lively and energetic appearance of Lu Shiman on the phone just now flashed through my mind involuntarily.
Ever since my sister has been with Ji Linshen, she seems to have become more clever.
Maybe... Ji Linshen is not completely useless?
