Extra: Lu Yannan & Pei Mo Ning (4)
In the evening, the celebration banquet was held.
The light from the crystal chandelier enveloped the champagne tower, like flowing golden ripples.
The place was bustling with activity and the atmosphere was bustling with activity.
Lu Yannan stood in the center of the crowd, his tall figure weaving in the vortex of congratulations and temptations.
He had just finished his speech and was calmly dealing with waves of people coming forward to toast him.
The alcohol quietly accumulated with the clinking of cups.
In addition to Howard Johnson's own project team, there are many important partners and even a few competitors with subtle expressions.
Some neutral people then came closer to toast, with subtle tentativeness in their words, hinting at the more specific relationship between the Lu family and Ji Linshen, the head of the Ji family.
Lu Yannan held the wine glass and maintained a perfect smile on his face.
He has a sharp eye and his words are precise.
A few seemingly nonchalant words, which actually expressed a clear stance, subtly repelled those inquiries with ulterior motives one by one.
As the banquet drew to a close, the noise gradually faded away.
Lu Yannan finally spoke briefly to several core executives, rubbed his swollen temples, and walked out of the hotel lobby.
The night wind blew over with a biting chill.
The cold wind stimulated the alcohol in my body, causing it to quickly rise to my head, giving me a slightly tipsy and dizzy feeling.
He stood at the door of the hotel, waiting for the driver to arrive.
The hem of the black coat was blown up by the wind, and the coldness penetrated into the collar.
Lu Yannan raised his hand to look at his watch, and the hour hand pointed to late night.
I wonder if the little ones at home are asleep.
Thinking of them making noise at home, Lu Yannan's mouth corners unconsciously curled up into a beautiful arc.
Footsteps were heard behind him, and a familiar and gentle voice penetrated the night wind and poured into Lu Yannan's ears.
"...It's my duty. Officer Zhao is too polite..." His voice was gentle and clear, with his usual calmness.
Lu Yannan paused and subconsciously turned his head towards the sound.
Two uniformed police officers, Pei Mo and Ning Zhengyu, walked out together.
She was also wearing a long black coat with a simple and smooth cut, which made her figure look slender and neat.
The night wind blew her drooping hair, and the light from the street lamp cast soft light and shadow on her face.
The coat on Pei Mo Ning, from its length to its style, is surprisingly similar to the one Lu Yan Nan is wearing at the moment.
Standing together, they seem to be a perfect match.
One of the officers smiled and said, "Thank you so much for your cooperation today, Dr. Pei. I'll have to trouble you with the follow-up materials. We'll be back to the bureau now. By the way, how are you leaving?"
Pei Mo Ning smiled gently: "It's okay, I can just take a taxi myself. Thank you for your hard work."
As she spoke, she naturally raised her eyes and looked forward, and her gaze unexpectedly met Lu Yannan's eyes.
The two people's eyes met in the air.
A hint of surprise flashed across Pei Mo Ning's eyes, then turned into a smile of understanding.
She looked at Lu Yannan who was standing quietly a few steps away.
His matching black coat fluttered slightly in the wind, and the fitted silver-gray suit underneath outlined his tall and straight figure.
Qingjun's face was stained with a thin layer of red due to the night wind and the alcohol. There was a slight relaxation between his brows, but strangely, it did not affect his calm aura.
Her heart skipped a beat for no apparent reason.
Pei Mo Ning took a few steps closer and stopped in front of Lu Yannan, a slight curve at the corner of his lips: "Mr. Lu? What a coincidence."
The voice carried the warmth of the night.
Lu Yannan's gaze paused for a moment on the outline of her coat, which was extremely similar to his own, and then quickly moved away.
He nodded slightly: "What a coincidence, Miss Pei, this is..." He gestured in the direction of the police car that had just left.
Pei Mo Ning seemed to see through his concise questioning. The smile in his eyes deepened, and he interrupted with a hint of playfulness: "I am committed to doing what I can as a good citizen."
Lu Yannan was amused by her frankness and chuckled softly, with a smile in his eyes: "Then you should be given an award."
His voice was a little deeper than usual because he was a little drunk.
"Good Citizen Award?" Pei Mo Ning asked jokingly following his words.
"Excellent citizen." Lu Yannan responded naturally, his eyes fixed on her smiling eyebrows.
The black car slid silently to a stop in front of the two men.
The driver got out of the car, respectfully opened the back door, and stood aside waiting.
Pei Mo Ning's eyes swept over the luxury car and the waiting driver, the smile on the corner of his lips still gentle: "Don't disturb Mr. Lu, I'm leaving first."
As she spoke, she turned and walked to the roadside to hail a taxi.
Just as she turned around, Lu Yannan's deep voice rang out, clearly penetrating the night wind: "On the way, I'll give you a ride."
Pei Mo Ning paused, turned around and looked at him, her eyebrows slightly raised: "Mr. Lu doesn't even know where I live, so how did you know it was on the way?"
Lu Yannan stood in the night wind, his tall figure outlined neatly by the car lights behind him.
He met her gaze with an inquiring look, his thin lips parted slightly, his voice revealing an indescribable tension: "Anywhere the car can go is considered on the way."
This sentence is plain, but it seems to carry an irresistible aura.
Pei Mo Ning paused slightly, looked into his eyes which had become slightly deeper due to the alcohol, and then smiled: "Okay."
She walked towards the car door without any hesitation and sat in gracefully.
When she sat sideways, she looked up at Lu Yannan standing outside the door and chuckled, "I haven't invited Mr. Lu to dinner yet, so I'll let him fulfill his job as driver first."
Lu Yannan went around to the other side and got into the car.
The warm carriage isolates the cold wind from outside.
Almost without thinking, he spoke in a deep voice in this relatively private space: "When will Miss Pei's 'Hongmen Banquet' be held?"
This sentence contained a hint of the previously agreed upon joke, but also revealed an imperceptible questioning.
Pei Mo Ning heard this and turned his head to look at him.
The neon lights of the city flowing outside the window cast jumping spots of light in her clear eyes, making her gentle smile more lively.
She smiled and said, "It depends on Mr. Lu's schedule, doesn't it?"
The initiative was easily thrown back and then taken over with tacit understanding.
Lu Yannan leaned slightly to the side, his gaze fixed on her profile, which was outlined by light and shadow. āIām free tomorrow night.ā
Quick and decisive, without any hesitation.
Pei Mo Ning nodded calmly, "Understood. I'll arrange it tomorrow night."
It was finalized concisely without any delay.
The car started smoothly and merged into the traffic in the night.
Pei Mo Ning gave an address, and the carriage fell into a brief silence.
Neither of them spoke again.
Pei Mo Ning looked at the light and shadows passing quickly outside the window.
Lu Yannan's gaze was fixed on the front, and he occasionally caught sight of Pei Mo Ning's quiet silhouette in the rearview mirror.
Outside the window, neon lights were like a flowing galaxy, quickly passing through the car window, sometimes brightly and sometimes dimly outlining the side profiles of the two people who were leaning close to each other.
The lights flickered, casting tiny shadows on their eyelashes and noses, only to be swallowed up by darkness the next second.
The slightly drunken smell mixed with the cool and refreshing fragrance of Lu Yannan and the subtle freshness of Pei Mo Ning collided quietly.
It spreads in the confined space and interweaves and merges together.
