Extra: Lu Yannan & Pei Mo Ning (5)
The car slid silently to a stop at the entrance of the high-end residential complex where Pei Mo Ning lived.
The driver immediately got out of the car, walked around the back of the car, and quickly opened the back door.
Pei Mo Ning bent down to get out of the car, then stood up straight, the night wind blowing her hair.
She turned her head slightly and looked at Lu Yannan who was still sitting in the car, with a gentle and shallow arc on the corner of her mouth: "Thank you, Mr. Lu, for stopping by."
The light inside the car was dim, and Lu Yannan's handsome profile was half hidden in the shadows.
His gaze fell on her face, his eyes were as dark as the sea, but a hint of smile flashed across them clearly in the dim light.
His voice was low, with a hint of teasing at the end: "It's just a small favor."
Pei Mo Ning was slightly startled, and instantly caught the sarcasm in his words. It was exactly the excuse he made when he solemnly thanked him at dinner that day.
Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and then the smile on her lips deepened a little. She looked at Lu Yannan in the car with bright eyes: "Mr. Lu, you have a good memory."
Lu Yannan leaned back more relaxedly into the soft leather of the chair, the subtle curve at the corner of his mouth still there: "I'll forget it in a few days. I should probably be lying in a sanatorium now, not here."
A slightly stronger night breeze blew by, picking up a few strands of Pei Mo Ning's scattered hair.
She subconsciously raised her hand and brushed it away.
Lu Yannan's eyes followed the long hair that was messed up by the wind, and a low voice sounded: "Go back, it's cold."
The words were simple and extremely gentle.
Pei Mo Ning put down his hand, a smile still on his lips, and waved to him naturally: "Okay, be careful on the road."
She turned around quickly and walked into the community gate.
Lu Yannan's eyes were fixed on her slender figure as she walked away through the dark car window glass.
It was not until the figure in the black coat completely blended into the lights and shadows of the trees deep in the community and completely disappeared from his sight that he let out an almost inaudible breath, as if loosening some invisible thread.
He retracted his gaze, his voice returning to its usual calmness, and gave the driver a simple order: "Drive."
......
Lu family villa.
The clock has already passed midnight.
There were only a few dim wall lamps left in the living room.
As soon as Lu Yannan walked into the hall, he smelled a strong aroma of instant noodles wafting from the direction of the kitchen.
As I approached the open kitchen, I saw Lu Jianheng wearing comfortable home clothes, lazily leaning against the polished marble island.
Two packets of instant noodles were bubbling in the pot in front of him. He was holding a spatula in his hand, flipping two fried eggs in the pan with crispy edges and runny yolks in an unskillful manner.
Hearing the footsteps, Lu Jianheng didn't even turn his head, but asked lazily: "Brother, are you back? Are you hungry? I cooked some noodles."
The celebration banquet was mostly for socializing, and Lu Yannan's stomach was empty at the moment, and he was indeed feeling a little hungry.
He walked straight to the dining table, pulled out a chair and sat down: "Yeah."
After responding, Lu Yannan glanced at his brother's slightly busy back.
Lu Jianheng neatly placed two poached eggs on the instant noodles that had just come out of the pot, and then took out several thick slices of braised beef from the nearby fresh-keeping box and carefully spread them over the two bowls of noodles.
The amount of meat is really exaggerated.
He brought two steaming bowls of noodles, almost overflowing with toppings, and placed them on the dining table. He then took out a large bottle of soda water from the refrigerator and poured two glasses.
He sat down opposite Lu Yannan, pushed one of the glasses of water in front of his elder brother, then picked up the chopsticks, took a big sip of noodles, and exhaled with satisfaction.
Lu Yannan looked at the pile of beef in his bowl, raised his eyebrows, picked up his chopsticks, and asked casually, "Didn't you say we had beef hotpot tonight? Are you not full?"
These words seemed to turn on Lu Jianheng's complaining switch.
He immediately put down his chopsticks, leaned forward slightly, pointed at himself with an indignant look on his face: "I eat? Xie Yi, that big idiot!"
Lu Jianheng raised his voice a few notches. "He couldn't help but break one of his grandfather's most precious teacups. I heard it was a relic given to him by a comrade-in-arms, and the old man treasured it like the apple of his eye. That idiot Xie got scared right away, dragging me around half of Jincheng, insisting on finding me an identical one."
As he spoke, he fiercely forked another piece of beef into his mouth, chewing it vigorously as if he were biting Xie Yi's flesh. "You bastard! I've been wandering around half the city and haven't found anything. I missed my meal and didn't even get to drink the hot pot soup."
"In the end, they bought me some oden, but it was still cold."
"When he heard his grandfather had come home early and discovered it, his face turned green with fear and he rushed back, ready to get beaten."
"I had no choice but to return home and cook noodles for myself to survive."
Lu Yannan listened quietly to his emotional narration, picking up noodles with his chopsticks.
The slight feeling of drunkenness seemed to make the night even gentler, and such mundane complaints sounded strangely interesting to the ears.
He put the noodles into his mouth and chewed them for a few times before looking up at Lu Jianheng who was still indignant: "Did you find it?"
Lu Jianheng shook his head and sipped his noodle soup again, as if to vent his anger. "What the hell! That cup is probably a one-of-a-kind piece."
"Xie Yumao now..." He made a face as if wiping his neck, and said in an exaggerated tone: "He must have been exposed under the family law and died a heroic death."
Lu Yannan was amused by his brother's exaggerated movements and expressions, and a low, short laugh escaped his throat: "It was all in vain."
"That's right!" Lu Jianheng nodded vigorously, agreeing very much.
Then, as if remembering something, he tapped the beef in Lu Yannan's bowl with the tip of his chopsticks. "Hey, big brother, why are you so late? Why are you having the celebration party so late?"
Lu Yannan picked up the cold cup of soda water, and the refreshing coolness spread across his palm.
The figure that had just blended into the night at the entrance of the community flashed through his mind quickly.
He lowered his eyes and took a big sip of water from the cup. His Adam's apple rolled and his voice was silent: "Well, it ended late."
He didn't mention giving it away.
Some emotions are only suitable to be kept deep in the heart for the time being.
Lu Jianheng said "Oh", obviously not paying much attention to this standard answer.
His attention returned to eating. Looking at the little mountain of beef in Lu Yannan's bowl that had barely been touched, he simply stretched out his chopsticks and without saying a word, picked up a few large pieces of beef from his own bowl and put them into his brother's bowl.
The action was so fast that Lu Yannan had no time to stop it.
Lu Yannan looked at the mountain of beef that had suddenly grown taller, his brows furrowed, and with a hint of disgust and helplessness, he said, "Lu Jianheng, are you feeding the pigs?"
Lu Jianheng didn't take it seriously. He picked up a piece of beef and stuffed it into his mouth, saying seriously, "What do you mean by feeding pigs? Big brother must have been drinking at that kind of event tonight and had no time to eat. Eat more meat to fill your stomach."
As he spoke, he lowered his head and started eating his bowl of noodles in big mouthfuls, as if it was natural to stuff meat into his elder brother's bowl.
Lu Yannan looked at the beef sticking out of the bowl, then looked at his brother sitting opposite him, eating contentedly and without any image at all.
With a helpless sigh, he gave him some meat: "You can't eat that much."
Lu Jianheng picked up the beef given by his elder brother and put it into his mouth along with the chewy noodles.
In the restaurant late at night, the only sound was the two brothers quietly eating noodles.
