Dark Wolf?
Is it some new Siberian species?
Lu Baofei straightened her back and turned to look at the distance.
"Never heard of him, but I do know 'big bad wolf' and 'ungrateful wolf'!"
On those construction sites, large-scale machinery stands like a forest.
Through the swirling dust, one could vaguely see the busy figures inside the safety net.
If I remember correctly, the development rights to this large area of land belong to the Huo family.
Previously, when looking at documents, I didn't have much of a concept of numbers.
Looking back now, I suddenly realize why these kinds of projects attract wave after wave of people to invest and rush in!
It either exists or it doesn't.
Unlike finance, real estate and property cannot be faked!
Every day when you open your eyes, you see the projects you've invested in, digging for gold in the dirt—it's hard not to be tempted.
"Dark Wolf is an international assassin; he charges high fees and completes his missions exceptionally well!"
Huo Jingxi followed her gaze to the project site that had opened up new opportunities for the Huo family, and smiled broadly.
Lu Baofei stared at him in shock.
At this moment, Huo Jingxi's expression was completely unrelated to what he was saying.
She had met so many different kinds of people, but she had never seen anyone so divided.
Why are you telling me this?
Lu Baofei coughed lightly, turned her face away guiltily, and her gaze wandered.
Huo Jingxi stubbed out his cigarette and flicked the butt away.
"Miss Lu, you are one of the smartest people in the business world, so why are you so slow to react in this matter?"
He closed the car window, turned slightly to the side, and stared at Lu Baofei's eyes and brows with a mocking expression.
"Am I slow to react, or is Young Master Huo just dodging the question and making no point in his speech?"
Lu Baofei, not to be outdone, stared straight at him.
The two faced each other until they saw each other in each other's eyes.
Huo Jingxi lowered his eyebrows.
“You keep saying you care about Lu Yi, but from the moment you entered until you left, no one asked about Lu Yi’s injuries in detail.”
“Lu Baofei, if the injured person was Lu Han, or someone else, you wouldn’t have this attitude, would you?”
He felt wronged for Lu Yi.
At the same time, I feel fortunate for him.
Having escaped from such a mentally ill family environment, Lu Yi's mental strength has surpassed that of most of his peers.
Back then, he was also extremely dissatisfied with the Huo family.
His eldest brother was an official, his second brother was outstanding, his father was domineering, and his family was incredibly wealthy... It was giving him a huge headache.
With such a halo surrounding him, he didn't even have absolute freedom to date.
But he didn't have Lu Yi's courage.
To be precise, he had it before, but before he could put it into action, the Huo family's empire collapsed.
Lu Baofei's eyes darkened, and her voice carried an indescribable bitterness.
"You and Lu Yi are good brothers, so naturally he'll treat you kindly!"
“He treats us like enemies, like villains, and he treats the money and gifts we give him like trash… How can we care about him?”
"Do you think that just because we exchange a few polite words, he'll give my mother and me a warm welcome?"
She rubbed her temples, a myriad of emotions swirling within her, almost bringing tears to her eyes.
The once bustling Lu family home has become less warm and welcoming because of him alone.
Somehow, a rift gradually developed between the once inseparable sisters.
Lu Baofei didn't know how to describe her feelings to an outsider.
Even if Lu Yi wanted to vent his anger and take revenge on them, the infamy that the Lu family had borne over the years was enough!
But she saw no hope in Lu Yi's attitude.
"So, you and your family still consider Lu Yi as family?"
Huo Jingxi played with the lighter, clicking his tongue with interest.
"Nonsense, he's our brother, what else could he be but family!"
"It's just that the bond between family members is very strong, and we neglected him before, which led to his misunderstanding."
Lu Baofei raised her eyebrows and glared angrily at Huo Jingxi.
After saying that, he deflated like a punctured balloon, fiddling with the decorations on his bag, his face becoming bewildered.
"If that's the case, why did you have him kidnapped!"
Huo Jingxi abruptly stopped what he was doing, and the scraping sound of the metal plate instantly ignited the hidden fear in Lu Baofei's heart.
"W-what did you say?"
She stared at Huo Jingxi in disbelief.
His mouth was wide open; he had forgotten even the most basic facial expression control.
My mind was in complete chaos, and I had no idea how to get out of this.
"If I hadn't suppressed the most crucial evidence, your hands wouldn't be so free when you're answering questions right now!"
Huo Jingxi snorted coldly.
The ruthlessness in his eyes sent a chill down Lu Baofei's spine.
"I didn't hire any assassins, and I don't know Minglang. Huo Jingxi, don't make false accusations!"
The man before me exuded elegance in every gesture.
Why is the murderous intent that is inadvertently revealed beneath this charm so intense?
Lu Baofei could only rewind and try to find a breakthrough from their previous conversations.
Under his fierce gaze, she finally found a name—Dark Wolf.
No wonder he kept repeating this name; it turns out he suspected that I had paid him a high price to murder Lu Yi.
This is hilarious!
Huo Jingxi's judgment is nothing special!
In a few breaths, Lu Baofei finally regained a pitiful bit of confidence.
So, mustering his courage, he glared at her and said, "Young Master Huo, you've gone too far!"
