Chapter 7 The Shrew

Watching the man's departing figure, Li Jia pondered for a moment, while Jiang Ling began doing what a police officer should do.

"Director Wang, may I borrow an investigation room?" Jiang Ling said, pulling Li Xiaoqing to Li Jia's side. "Please look after Xiaoqing for me. I'm going to investigate this matter." After receiving an affirmative look from Li Jia, she followed the director, who couldn't see his toes, into an investigation room on the right.

A moment later, Director Wang came out with a somewhat grim expression. He walked up to the overweight Mrs. Yan and said, "Go in and assist with the investigation." After saying that, he turned and left the hall without a word, returning to his office.

"Hmph, let them investigate. Do you think I'm afraid of you, you little brat?" Mrs. Yan muttered under her breath before striding arrogantly into the investigation room.

"Mrs. Yan, right? I won't mince words. You say Li Xiaoqing stole your necklace, what evidence do you have?" Jiang Ling's anger flared up at the sight of the woman in front of her. No one knew Li Xiaoqing better than Jiang Ling. She was an introverted, quiet, well-behaved girl who excelled in her studies. How could she possibly have stolen her necklace?

"What evidence do we need? You can tell she's a poor wretch just by looking at her. She was naturally tempted by my pretty necklace. What's so strange about that?" The woman said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"So you still don't have any evidence to prove that Li Xiaoqing took your necklace?" Although Jiang Ling was a carefree person, she was not careless when it came to solving cases. From the woman's words, she realized that this woman had no evidence to prove that Xiaoqing took her so-called necklace worth 28,000 yuan. She completely understood that the woman was just framing Xiaoqing.

“I’ve already said, there’s no need for evidence at all. I say she took it, so she took it.” After saying that, the woman took out a cigarette, lit it, and crossed her legs. “Don’t think that just because she’s your daughter you can protect her. Be careful, or I’ll put you in jail too.”

"Heh, do you own this prison? Don't try to act tough with me. I've seen all kinds of people. If you don't give me the evidence, I'll arrest you right now." Jiang Ling slammed her hand on the table, the handcuffs hanging from her waist striking the table coldly.

Upon seeing the handcuffs on the table, the woman's cigarette trembled, almost falling from her hand. She stopped crossing her legs, and the stern look on Jiang Ling's face made her feel somewhat guilty.

"If you don't cooperate with the investigation, I'll have to lock you up for 24 hours first and then we'll talk." Jiang Ling naturally wouldn't give this rich but uncultured shrew a friendly look.

“We weren’t home all day yesterday, only my son and that tutor Li Xiaoqing were home. And today I’m going to a party, and I need to match my outfit with that legendary Crystal Love necklace, but I’ve been looking for it for ages and can’t find it. Who else could it be but her?” The woman was somewhat more restrained, but she still insisted that Li Xiaoqing had taken her necklace.

"According to you, Li Xiaoqing is at most a suspect. You've made such a big fuss about this. If it wasn't Li Xiaoqing who took it, then you're framing her. Do you know how serious the crime of framing is?" As a law enforcement officer, Jiang Ling was naturally able to maintain the principles of fairness and impartiality.

"I'm framing her? She clearly took it." The woman became somewhat hysterical. As the saying goes, a wealthy woman without education is nothing but a vagrant; when she throws a tantrum, even a god can't handle her.

"Okay, let's go to your house. I need to investigate on-site. I can't continue the investigation without seeing the scene with my own eyes. If you agree, we can leave right away. If you don't agree, then let's open a case and have the team investigate." Jiang Ling finished speaking and ignored the woman sitting opposite her.

"Okay, let's go. I've looked for it over and over again. Let's go! Let's go now." After the woman finished speaking, she got up, pushed open the door, and walked out of the police station with her head held high. Jiang Ling then walked up to Li Jia and said, "Let's go. I'll have to trouble you to take me to their house to investigate the truth of the matter."

"Okay!" After saying that, Li Jia followed Jiang Ling out with Li Xiaoqing. Through their previous interaction, Li Jia was basically certain that Li Xiaoqing could not possibly have done such a thing, and the bruises on Li Xiaoqing's body only fueled Li Jia's anger.

Following the black Mercedes-Benz 600 in front, they soon arrived at Tianfu International, which was only a five-minute drive from the police station. The black Mercedes-Benz stopped in front of a villa on the left side of the community, and the group got out of the car and went into Mrs. Yan's villa.

As soon as they entered the house, they saw Mrs. Yan's husband coming out of the bedroom, followed by a little boy of about seven or eight years old. When he saw Li Jia and the others come in, he happily ran into Mrs. Yan's arms. His big, dark eyes looked Li Jia and Jiang Ling up and down. When he saw Li Xiaoqing, he quickly got out of Mrs. Yan's arms and ran to Li Xiaoqing. Before he could even speak to Li Xiaoqing, Mrs. Yan pulled the little boy back and then looked at Li Xiaoqing, who was pale, with disdain.

"Mrs. Yan, where do you keep your jewelry? Are you sure you've searched all the possible places?" Jiang Ling asked seriously, looking at Mrs. Yan who was staring at Li Xiaoqing with a wary expression.

“I’m sure. You can search for it if you don’t believe me. But you and this little vixen shouldn’t go in. I’m afraid you’ll take a fancy to other things of mine. Let this handsome young man go find them. He’s so refined and doesn’t seem so repulsive.” Mrs. Yan’s words annoyed Jiang Ling. Before she could react, Li Jia had already walked up to her. “Let me go. You take care of Xiao Qing.”

After Li Jia finished speaking, she walked into the master bedroom under Mrs. Yan's watchful gaze. The bedroom was lavishly furnished, with a large red bed occupying the main position, followed by a bunch of messy decorations. These decorations all shared a common feature: a magnificent and opulent feel, with golden pillows, golden carpets, and so on.

Before entering the room, Li Jia glanced at Mrs. Yan's husband and caught a glimpse of relief in his eyes. She then began searching the room while Jiang Ling and the others stood at the door watching. After searching for a long time, Li Jia couldn't find even a single piece of jewelry. Suddenly, she had an idea and stole a glance at Mrs. Yan's husband, finally discovering a very important clue: the man kept glancing at the pillows on the bed, seemingly intentionally or unintentionally.

Li Jia walked to the bedside and picked up the pillow. She touched the pillow and found a chain-like object. She took the pillowcase off the pillow, and a white necklace appeared before everyone's eyes. "I have fulfilled my mission, Mrs. Yan. Is this it?"

Li Jia waved the necklace in front of Mrs. Yan, and Jiang Ling's face immediately lit up with a smile, while Li Xiaoqing burst into tears. Mrs. Yan, her face grim, tried to take the necklace from Li Jia's hand, saying, "What are you crying for? If you didn't take it, then forget it. I'll settle your tutoring fees later, and you don't need to come anymore."

"Mrs. Yan, you seem to have gone a bit too far," Jiang Ling said, her face turning somewhat unpleasant upon hearing the woman's words.
