Chapter 128: Emotional Difficulty

Chapter 128: Emotional Difficulty

The night was as dark as ink. Lan Wangji sat beneath the wisteria trellis in the courtyard, his fingertips stroking the jade pendant left by Wei Wuxian. Over the past two weeks, he had become visibly haggard, the bloodshot eyes never fading. The affairs of Yunshen Pavilion had been handed over to his brother, Lan Xichen, who remained in this small courtyard day and night, like a stone statue awaiting his return.

Suddenly, there was a very light noise outside the courtyard wall, as if someone was climbing over the wall and coming in.

Lan Wangji stood up suddenly and tightened his grip on the Bichen at his waist - over the past half month, he had already developed a sense of alertness that would wake him up at the slightest sign of trouble.

But when that familiar figure stumbled into the moonlight, all his defenses collapsed in an instant.

"Wei Ying?"

Lan Wangji's voice trembled, and he could hardly believe his eyes. The person in front of him was wrapped in a thick cloak that didn't belong in modern times. His face was still pale, but he was standing there in reality, looking at him with a pair of sparkling eyes.

It’s Wei Wuxian.

It was Wei Ying whom he had been looking for, thinking about, and missing for half a month.

Wei Wuxian looked at him, his eyes instantly red. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but Lan Wangji pulled him into a hug.

A familiar cool fragrance enveloped him, accompanied by a barely perceptible tremor. Lan Wangji's embrace was tight, as if he were to rub him into his bones and blood, as if he would disappear again if he let go.

"Wei Ying...it's really you..." Lan Wangji's voice was close to his ear, with a strong nasal tone, "You're back..."

“Well, I’m back.” Wei Wuxian leaned into his arms, feeling his true body temperature and heartbeat. The longing and grievances that had been pent up for half a month suddenly burst out, and tears flowed out. “Lan Zhan, I miss you so much…”

The two of them hugged each other, as if to fill the gap of half a month, and did not notice that there were two people standing by the courtyard wall.

Xie Lian looked at the two people hugging each other, smiled helplessly, and poked Hua Cheng beside him: "It seems that we are redundant."

Hua Cheng raised an eyebrow, put his arm around his waist, and said with a hint of jealousy: "Let's go, don't disturb them."

“Wait!” Wei Wuxian heard the voice and then remembered the person behind him. He quickly pulled himself out of Lan Wangji’s arms, his cheeks flushed. “Lan Zhan, let me introduce you.”

He pointed at Xie Lian and said, "This is my brother, Xie Lian." Then he pointed at Hua Cheng and said, "This is my brother-in-law, Hua Cheng."

Lan Wangji only then noticed Xie Lian and Hua Cheng. Seeing their unusual auras, especially the flash of dominance in Hua Cheng's eyes, his pupils shrank slightly. But he was more concerned about the message in Wei Wuxian's words: "Brother? Brother-in-law?"

“Yes!” Wei Wuxian nodded, a hint of excitement on his face. “I’ve found my family! My uncle… oh no, my father is the emperor of Heaven, his name is Jun Wu!”

He spoke too quickly and too excitedly. As soon as he finished speaking, he couldn't help covering his mouth and coughing violently.

“Cough… cough cough…”

Bright red blood seeped out from between the fingers and dripped onto the moon-white collar, which was shocking to the eye.

"Wei Ying!" Lan Wangji's face suddenly changed and he quickly supported him.

Xie Lian and Hua Cheng also hurried forward. Xie Lian reached out to feel Wei Wuxian's pulse, his brows instantly furrowed. "Oh no! His spiritual energy is disordered again!"

Hua Cheng's expression darkened as he looked at Lan Wangji: "What are you still standing there for? Help him into the house!"

Lan Wangji finally came to his senses, picked up Wei Wuxian, and rushed into the house. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng followed closely behind, and the originally quiet courtyard suddenly became a mess.

After placing Wei Wuxian on the bed, Lan Wangji frantically tried to get some medicine, but Xie Lian stopped him: "This is an old injury caused by emotional excitement. Ordinary medicine won't work."

Xie Lian pulled a jade pendant from his sleeve and placed it between Wei Wuxian's eyebrows. A gentle spiritual energy gathered at his fingertips. "We can only stabilize his aura first."

The jade pendant emitted a faint golden light. Wei Wuxian's cough gradually subsided, but his face was still pale, and he was breathing weakly as he leaned against the headboard, not even having the strength to open his eyes.

Lan Wangji stayed by the bed, holding his hand tightly, his palms wet with sweat. He looked at the blood at the corner of Wei Wuxian's mouth, then glanced at Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, and asked in a hoarse voice, "He...what's going on with him?"

Xie Lian sighed and briefly explained Wei Wuxian’s experience in Heaven, from the aftereffects of the blood transfusion to the recasting of the golden elixir, to Jun Wu’s confinement and their “escape”.

Lan Wangji's heart sank as he listened. Unbeknownst to him, Wei Wuxian had endured so much. He recalled Wei Wuxian's words about "finding his family," the light in his eyes when he mentioned "Daddy," and then, looking at his frail appearance, his heart ached.

"His body..." Lan Wangji said with difficulty.

"It's difficult to fully recover." Xie Lian shook his head, his tone heavy. "The blood transfusion damaged my foundation, and recasting the golden elixir drained my vital energy. I can only recuperate slowly and avoid further stimulation."

Lan Wangji closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He knew Wei Wuxian would never come back safely. This fool always took on all the suffering himself.

Wei Wuxian drowsily opened his eyes and saw Lan Wangji’s tense face. He smiled weakly, “Don’t worry… I’m fine…”

Lan Wangji immediately opened his eyes and held his hand: "Stop talking and have a good rest."

Wei Wuxian nodded, but still looked at him stubbornly: "Si Zhui...are you okay?"

"Very good," Lan Wangji said, his voice softening. "When you feel better, I'll take you to see him."

“Hmm…” Wei Wuxian closed his eyes in peace, leaning against Lan Wangji’s chest, and soon fell into a deep sleep. After the hustle and bustle of escape and the emotional upheaval, he had already exhausted all his strength.

Lan Wangji held him, his movements gentle as if he were handling a fragile treasure. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng exchanged a glance and quietly left the room.

“It seems we’ll have to stay in the human world for a while,” Xie Lian said softly.

Hua Cheng nodded, his eyes fixed on the closed door: "At least wait until he calms down."

In the room, Lan Wangji looked down at the pale sleeping face of the person in his arms, and gently brushed his cheek with his fingertips.

It's good that you're back.

No matter what he has been through, no matter how weak he is, as long as he is still there, as long as they can still hug each other like this, it is enough.

The moonlight outside the window is still gentle, and the wisteria flowers sway gently in the wind, as if whispering blessings for this reunion across time and space.

Lan Wangji knew that the road to protecting Wei Wuxian was still long, but this time, he would never leave him alone.
