Chapter 145 The Child's Seriousness

Chapter 145 The Child's Seriousness

As soon as the school bell rang, Lan Sizhui rushed out of the school gate with his schoolbag on his back. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng were already waiting at the door. Seeing him, Xie Lian smiled and waved, "Sizhui, here."

Lan Sizhui ran up to them, looked up and asked, "Uncle, Uncle, can we go to the hospital to see Daddy now?"

When he went out in the morning, he was thinking about this matter. He was looking forward to the end of school all day in class, hoping to see his father as soon as possible and show him his math test with full marks.

Xie Lian's smile faded a little, and he squatted down to ruffle his hair. "Si Zhui, your father is still recuperating. The doctor said he can't see outsiders for the time being. Can we go in a couple of days?"

"Why?" Lan Sizhui's eyes immediately turned red. "I just want to see him. I won't disturb him."

"It's not that we can't let you go, it's that your father needs to rest quietly." Hua Cheng spoke from the side, trying to keep his tone as gentle as possible. "When he feels better, we will take you there immediately."

"I won't!" Lan Sizhui took a step back, his face full of grievance and stubbornness. "I want to go today! I miss Daddy!"

He clutched the strap of his schoolbag until his knuckles turned white. He had been waiting all day, since he woke up, and he couldn't wait any longer.

Xie Lian sighed and was about to say something else, but Hua Cheng stopped him. Hua Cheng shook his head, signaling him to stop talking - this kid had the same temperament as Wei Wuxian, and when he got stubborn, even ten cows couldn't pull him back.

"Let's go home first." Hua Cheng took Lan Sizhui's hand, "I'll go home and make you your favorite osmanthus cake."

Lan Sizhui shook his hand off and turned to walk to the side: "I'm not going home, I'm going to the hospital!"

Xie Lian and Hua Cheng exchanged a glance, both feeling somewhat helpless. Having spent years in the Upper Heaven Palace, and despite doting on Wei Wuxian, they didn't quite understand a child's mindset. In their opinion, Si Zhui was just throwing a tantrum, and he'd be fine once his anger subsided.

"Si Zhui, stop messing around." Xie Lian stepped forward, his tone tinged with seriousness. "Be obedient."

Lan Sizhui was frightened by his tone, his eyes turned red and tears almost fell, but he still gritted his teeth and refused to compromise. He just stood there with his back to them, looking like "I won't leave unless you agree."

Xie Lian and Hua Cheng were at their wit's end, so they patiently coaxed him a few times. However, no matter what they said, Lan Sizhui refused to budge. In the end, it was Hua Cheng who finally managed to bring him back to Yunshen Pavilion.

Back home, Xie Lian went to the kitchen to cook, specially preparing several dishes that Si Zhui liked. However, when it was time to eat, Lan Si Zhui locked himself in his room and refused to come out no matter how Xie Lian called him.

“This kid…” Xie Lian looked at the closed door with a headache.

Hua Cheng leaned against the door frame, looked at the door, and said calmly: "Don't mind him, the child is throwing a tantrum, he will come out naturally when he is hungry."

He felt that the child was simply spoiled, becoming even more willful when Wei Wuxian was not around. If those little ghosts had dared to behave like this in the Ghost Market before, he would have taught them a lesson long ago.

Although Xie Lian felt that this was inappropriate, he could not think of any other solution, so he had to keep the food warm in the pot, thinking that he could eat it after his anger subsided.

The two sat in the living room. Xie Lian was worried about Wei Wuxian and his mind wandered from time to time. Hua Cheng was playing with his folding fan, his eyes occasionally glancing at Si Zhui's door, with a hint of impatience in his eyes.

They didn't realize that the child behind the door was not throwing a tantrum, but expressing his longing and anxiety in his own way.

Inside his room, Lan Sizhui sat at his desk, clutching the perfect math test paper. The bright red checkmark on the paper dazzled, but he wasn't happy at all.

He didn't understand why his uncle and his great-uncle wouldn't let him visit his father. Was his father's illness serious? Were they lying to him?

The more I thought about it, the more scared I became. I couldn't hold back my tears and they fell on the paper, leaving a small stain of ink.

He remembered that when his father was sick before, he was kept in the dark in the same way. When he saw his father again, he had lost a lot of weight and his face was frighteningly pale.

This time...is it the same?

Lan Sizhui buried his face in his arms and began to cry softly. He didn't want to lose his temper, he just wanted to see his father and make sure he was okay.

But no one understands him.

The food in the living room was gradually getting cold. Xie Lian checked the time and felt a little worried: "It's so late, is he starving?"

Hua Cheng put down his folding fan: "He won't be too hungry, it's better to let him calm down."

He felt that children should not be spoiled too much, otherwise they would be more difficult to manage in the future.

Xie Lian hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided not to call him again. He thought, maybe tomorrow morning, Si Zhui's anger would subside, and everything would be fine.

Little did he know that behind that closed door, a small figure huddled in a chair, hugging his knees, tears streaming down his face all night. The math paper in his arms was crumpled, just like his restless heart.

As the night deepened, Yunshen Pavilion became so quiet that only the sound of the wind outside the window could be heard.

Xie Lian and Hua Cheng had no idea that what they thought was "childish stubbornness" was actually a child's deepest concern and fear.

This ignored emotion, like a seed, was quietly planted in Lan Sizhui's heart, just waiting for an opportunity to explode.
