Chapter 146: Skipping School to Find Daddy
The next morning, Lan Sizhui was escorted to the school gate by Xie Lian, his face still etched with grievance. He lowered his head, whispered "Goodbye, Uncle," and walked into the campus, backpack on his back.
Xie Lian looked at his dejected figure, feeling vaguely uneasy, but he simply assumed the child was still upset about what happened yesterday. He sighed and turned to leave.
In class, Lan Sizhui couldn't listen to the teacher at all. His mind was full of his father, and the way his eldest uncle and his great-uncle refused to take him to the hospital, the more he thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong.
No, he must see his father.
During the break, he clutched his stomach and frowned as he approached his homeroom teacher: "Teacher, I have a stomachache. I want to ask for leave to go home."
Seeing the child's pale face and sweat on her forehead (actually due to anxiety), the teacher did not suspect anything and quickly approved her leave, and also reminded her to be careful on the road.
Lan Sizhui, who received the leave note, felt as if he had been pardoned. He took the few dozen yuan of pocket money he had and ran out of the school. He stood by the road, watching the passing cars, and hailed a taxi.
"Little boy, where are you going?" The driver looked at him through the rearview mirror and saw that his eyes were red, as if he had just cried.
"Go... go to the hospital." Lan Sizhui's voice was trembling. He didn't know which hospital his father was in, so he could only vaguely say, "The biggest one."
The driver, seeing his pitiful appearance, softened and started the car. All the way, Lan Sizhui kept his head down, tears silently falling, his hands tightly clutching the corners of his clothes. The driver glanced at him several times in the rearview mirror, but didn't ask any further questions, simply assuming that someone in the child's family was sick and he was worried.
The car stopped in front of the City Center Hospital. Lan Sizhui paid, got out, and rushed inside. He searched floor by floor, ward by ward, but all he saw were unfamiliar faces, and there was no sign of his father.
He didn't know that the person he was looking for was not in any hospital on earth.
After searching all morning, his legs ached from running, he still couldn't find his father. Lan Sizhui stood in the hospital lobby, watching the people coming and going, and suddenly felt so helpless. His tears fell even harder, and his small body trembled slightly.
Will he never see his father again?
Lan Sizhui walked out of the hospital in a daze, wandering aimlessly down the street. The sun was growing brighter, and he was tired and hungry, his eyes red and looking particularly pitiful.
"Little boy, why are you here alone?" A gentle voice sounded beside him.
Lan Sizhui raised his head and saw a sister in a dress squatting in front of him, her eyes full of concern.
"I... I'm looking for my father." Lan Sizhui's voice was choked with sobs.
The sister looked at him and felt that he looked familiar. After thinking about it, her eyes suddenly lit up - isn't this the child that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji took to the variety show a while ago? At that time, she had gained a lot of fans because of this child's good behavior and sensible behavior.
"You are Lan Sizhui, right?" my sister asked tentatively.
Lan Sizhui nodded.
"Is your father Wei Wuxian?"
Hearing his father's name, Lan Sizhui's tears fell again: "Well, I can't find him."
The elder sister's heart tightened. Why was the child out alone? He must have lost his way. She quickly said, "Don't be afraid. I'll take you to the police station and ask the police to help you find your father, okay?"
Lan Sizhui did not resist. He didn't know what to do now, so he could only nod.
At the police station, Lan Sizhui sat in a chair, refusing to speak no matter what the officers asked him, only crying. His small body huddled in the chair, he looked lonely and pitiful.
The police had no choice but to call two female police officers, who coaxed him softly, handed him water and snacks, and tried to make him relax.
Meanwhile, at school, the Chinese teacher noticed that Lan Sizhui had gone to the bathroom and hadn't returned since. Her heart skipped a beat. She remembered his pale face when he'd asked for leave that morning, and his recent bout of discomfort. The more she thought about it, the more worried she became. She quickly dug up Lan Wangji's contact information and called him.
When the call went through, Lan Wangji was in a side hall of the Upper Heaven Palace, chatting with Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian was in much better spirits, leaning against Lan Wangji's chest, listening to him talk about Sizhui's interesting experiences at school.
Seeing that the caller ID showed that it was Sizhui's teacher, Lan Wangji had a bad feeling and walked outside to answer the phone.
"Hello, hello, I'm Lan Sizhui's father."
"Hello, Mr. Lan. I'm Sizhui's Chinese teacher." The teacher's voice was filled with anxiety. "Sizhui asked for leave during recess this morning because he had a stomachache, but I just asked other teachers and they said he never went home, and now he's nowhere to be found!"
Lan Wangji's expression darkened instantly. "What?"
"He said he had a stomachache, so I approved his leave, but now I can't contact him..."
"I understand. Thank you for your help. We will look for her right away." Lan Wangji hung up the phone, and the air pressure around him dropped frighteningly low.
This kid actually dared to skip school!
He took a deep breath, suppressed the anger in his heart, and turned back to the hall. Wei Wuxian saw that his face was not right and asked hurriedly: "What's wrong? What happened?"
"It's okay." Lan Wangji didn't want to make him worry, so he forced a smile. "Something happened at school, I'll take care of it."
He walked outside and immediately called Lan Xichen, Xie Lian, and Huacheng. His tone was serious: "Sizhui ran away from school and can't be found now. Send someone to look for him immediately. You must find him as soon as possible!"
When the three people on the other end of the phone heard this, they were instantly furious.
“What?!” Xie Lian exclaimed in shock, “How could he have gotten out? Let’s go find him right away!”
Lan Xichen also said in a deep voice, "I will immediately mobilize personnel to block all intersections. Don't worry, we will find them."
Hua Cheng's voice was as cold as ice: "Dare to run around? Find him and see how I deal with him!" Although he spoke fiercely, his feet had already moved and he rushed out the door quickly.
Suddenly, the entire city was in motion. The Lan family, the immortals brought by Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, and even some fans who knew the news, all joined the search for Lan Sizhui.
In the side hall of the Upper Heaven Palace, Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji's tense face, and his uneasiness grew stronger and stronger. He took Lan Wangji's hand and asked seriously, "Lan Zhan, is Si Zhui in trouble? Tell me the truth."
Lan Wangji looked at his worried eyes and knew he could no longer hide the truth. He could only whisper, "Si Zhui... ran away from school. We are looking for him."
Wei WuXian's face instantly turned pale. "He ran away? He's just a little kid, where could he go?"
He suddenly remembered Si Zhui's aggrieved look last night, and that he had always wanted to go to the hospital to see him, and his heart tightened instantly.
“Did he come looking for me?” Wei Wuxian’s voice trembled. “It’s all my fault! If I hadn’t been sick, he wouldn’t…”
"It's none of your business." Lan Wangji hugged him tightly, "Don't worry, I will find it, I promise."
But in his heart, he was more anxious than anyone else.
Would that stubborn child be in danger or afraid when he was outside alone?
The sunlight is dazzling, but it cannot penetrate the anxiety in everyone's heart.
A search that concerns everyone has just begun.
