Chapter 147: Fear and Peace

Chapter 147: Fear and Peace

"No, I need to go find Sizhui!" Wei Wuxian flung back the covers and struggled to get out of bed. The thought of the child being scared out there alone made him unable to sit still, even forgetting his soreness and weakness.

"Wei Ying!" Lan Wangji hurried to help him, but he was still a step too late.

As Wei Wuxian stepped onto the ground, his legs gave way, and he fell forward uncontrollably. With a thud, he landed heavily on the cold floor, a sharp pain piercing his chest, and a fishy-sweet taste welled up in his throat.

"Cough cough——" He coughed violently, and a mouthful of blood splattered on the white floor tiles, shocking to the eye.

"Wei Ying!" Lan Wangji's heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly, the pain nearly suffocating him. He quickly squatted down and carefully picked up Wei Wuxian, his voice filled with unprecedented panic. "How are you? Are you hurt anywhere?"

Wei Wuxian leaned in his arms, his face as pale as paper, his breathing weak, but his eyes were still thinking about the child: "Si Zhui... Find Si Zhui..."

Seeing him like this, Lan Wangji felt a mixture of pain and anger. He felt bad for Wei Wuxian for neglecting his own health, and he was furious that Si Zhui was so clueless, causing his Wei Ying to vomit blood. This was the first time he'd felt angry at the child he'd always loved.

"Don't move. Lie down first." Lan Wangji carried him back to the bed and gently combed his disordered breath with his spiritual power. "Si Zhui is fine. He has been found."

"Really?" Wei Wuxian's eyes lit up, but with a hint of uncertainty.

"Really." Lan Wangji forced himself to calm down, took out his phone from his pocket, and pretended to answer a call, his tone relaxed and natural, "Hello? Found it? Yeah, okay, got it, we'll be there right away..."

He hung up the phone and smiled at Wei Wuxian: "Look, I just got a call. Sizhui is at Lan Xichen's place. He's fine, just scared."

Wei Wuxian's tense heartstrings relaxed slightly as he watched him calmly. He knew Lan Wangji well; he never lied. If he said he'd found it, then he must have. His heart settled, and coupled with the exhaustion from the previous vomiting of blood, he felt his eyelids grow heavier, his consciousness gradually blurring.

"Lan Zhan... I'm a little tired..." Wei Wuxian's voice became softer and softer, and finally he closed his eyes completely and fell asleep.

Looking at his pale, sleeping face, Lan Wangji's composure instantly faded, leaving only an inextricable worry and anxiety. He reached out to check Wei Wuxian's pulse, which was weak and irregular, and he couldn't help but frown.

He quickly took out his phone and called Lan Xichen, his voice filled with suppressed urgency: "Brother, have you found Sizhui?"

"We've found them, Wangji, don't worry." Lan Xichen's tone on the other end of the phone was reassuring. "We're at the police station. Sizhui is fine, just a little frightened and won't talk."

Lan Wangji finally breathed a sigh of relief, his heart finally at ease. "That's great... Ah Xian was just in a hurry to find the child, fell, vomited blood, and is now unconscious."

“What?!” Lan Xichen’s voice suddenly rose. “Is it serious? Do you want me to come over now?”

"No, take care of Sizhui first." Lan Wangji said in a deep voice, "I'll tell you when Xian wakes up."

After hanging up the phone, Lan Wangji sat down beside the bed, holding Wei Wuxian's cold hand, his eyes filled with fatigue. So much had happened in just one day, it had almost drained all his energy.

He looked down at Wei Wuxian's sleeping face and sighed softly.

Although Sizhui was wrong, it was also because he missed Ah Xian too much. When he wakes up, he still needs to be counseled and not let him be so impulsive again.

As for Ah Xian, this lesson was probably profound enough that he would never be so excited again.

The sunlight outside the window gradually set in the west, shining through the window lattice onto Wei Wuxian's face, giving his pale skin a faint golden edge.

Lan Wangji just stood there guarding him, motionless, like a silent statue.

He prayed silently in his heart, praying that Wei Wuxian would wake up soon, praying that Si Zhui would understand his feelings, and praying that this family could get rid of these twists and turns as soon as possible and be together safely.

At the police station, Lan Xichen looked at Lan Sizhui, who was huddled in a chair, still silent, and felt a surge of anger and pain in his heart. He walked over, sat down next to the child, and said softly, "Sizhui, do you know you're wrong?"

Lan Sizhui raised his head and saw that it was his uncle. Tears immediately fell from his eyes and he choked up and said, "Uncle, I was wrong... I just missed Daddy..."

“I wish Daddy could tell us not to run away alone, and certainly not to skip school.” Lan Xichen’s tone was a touch serious, but more heartbroken. “Did you know? Your dad was so anxious trying to find you that he vomited blood and is still in a coma.”

Lan Sizhui's eyes suddenly widened, and tears fell even more fiercely: "Daddy... Daddy, what happened? It's all my fault! It's my fault!"

He didn't expect that his willfulness would cause his father to suffer so much.

Seeing the child blaming himself, Lan Xichen sighed softly and reached out to pull him into a hug. "It's good that you know you were wrong. Don't do this again. When your father is better, we'll bring you to see him, okay?"

Lan Sizhui nodded vigorously, buried his face in Lan Xichen's arms, and cried heartbreakingly.

This time, he really knew he was wrong.

I just don't know if Dad will forgive him.

As the night deepened, both the side hall of the Heavenly Palace and the police station on earth were shrouded in a complex mix of emotions: worry, self-blame, heartache, but also a sense of peace and stability that things had finally settled.

At least, the people were found.

That's enough.
