Chapter 56: Stadium Incident
On the first weekend after the spell ban was issued, Wei Wuxian was dragged by Lan Wangji to the Wangji Group's charity dinner. Before leaving, he looked at his suit-and-tie reflection in the mirror and sighed, "If I had known that even being a movie star would mean accompanying the chairman to banquets like this, I should have chosen a less stressful career."
Lan Wangji helped him tie his tie, his fingertips tracing his Adam's apple, his tone carrying a barely perceptible gentleness: "There are quite a few media outlets at the dinner, which will be good for promoting your new movie." He paused, then added, "It can also earn you some popularity points."
Lan Wangji's eyes flashed with surprise and possessiveness. Wei Wuxian was truly beautiful after dressing up, and he really didn't want anyone to see it. Lately, his brother has been busy sorting out the Lan family rules and matters concerning the Lan clan. When his brother is done, he will definitely hand the company over to him.
Wei Wuxian's eyes lit up at the mention of his popularity. The system notifications had been going off quite frequently these past few days, mostly scattered "+10" and "+20" stats from when he was recognized by fans. The total had just passed one million, still a long way from a billion. If he could gain some popularity at the dinner party, that would be a shortcut.
"Alright, let's fight to get home!" Wei Wuxian straightened his suit jacket. "What about Sizhui and Jingyi? Should we leave them home alone?"
"Wen Ning will come and take care of them. He also said he would teach them how to make osmanthus cake." Lan Wangji picked up the car keys. "Don't worry, nothing will happen."
However, just as the two of them entered the banquet hall, Lan Wangji's phone rang. It was Wen Ning calling, his tone filled with anxiety: "Second Young Master, Young Master Wei, Jingyi is in trouble! He got into a fight on the school basketball court!"
Wei WuXian's heart tightened. "He didn't use any magic, did he?"
"Probably not! But the other side has a lot of people, Jingyi and Sizhui seem to be stuck in the equipment room!"
After hanging up the phone, the two looked at each other, immediately said goodbye to the organizer, and drove to the school.
When I arrived at the basketball court, I heard an argument in the distance. I saw several senior boys gathered at the equipment room door, dribbling basketballs and shouting, "Boy, you dare to take our court? If I don't teach you a lesson today, you won't know who's boss!"
Wei Wuxian walked over quickly and saw Lan Jingyi standing in front of Sizhui. His school uniform was covered in dust, and the corners of his mouth were a little scratched, but he stubbornly refused to give in. "The basketball court belongs to everyone. Why can you use it but we can't?"
Si Zhui stood at the back, his face tense, holding the alarm tightly in his hand. He obviously wanted to press it but was afraid of making things worse.
"Jingyi! Sizhui!" Wei Wuxian shouted, quickly stepping forward to protect the two children behind him.
When those boys saw the adults who suddenly appeared, especially when they saw Lan Wangji following closely behind, their arrogance immediately diminished - who didn't know this big shot who often appeared on the financial channel?
"Who are you?" The leading boy pretended to be calm.
"I'm their parent." Wei Wuxian raised an eyebrow, his eyes sweeping over the wound at the corner of Lan Jingyi's mouth. "How did my child offend you? To the point of violence?"
"He was the one who grabbed the court first!" The boy pointed at Lan Jingyi. "We came here first, but he insisted on playing on half the court and even said we were bad at basketball!"
"I didn't say that!" Lan Jingyi said anxiously, "I just said to take turns fighting!"
Lan Wangji ignored the argument, squatted down, and gently touched the corner of Lan Jingyi's mouth: "Does it hurt?"
Lan Jingyi shook his head, but his eyes were red. "It doesn't hurt...it's just that they said Sizhui was a motherless child, and I got so angry that I started arguing with them."
Wei Wuxian's face darkened. He hated hearing people say bad things about Sizhui. Just as he was about to speak, Lan Wangji stopped him.
"The venue's ownership can be checked on surveillance." Lan Wangji stood up, his tone calm but oppressive. "As for insulting your classmates, I'll report it to the school and have your parents come." He took out his phone. "Now, apologize."
Those boys had never seen such a scene before, especially when they saw Lan Wangji pull up the address book on his phone, as if he really wanted to contact their parents, they immediately panicked, hurriedly said "sorry" to Si Zhui and Lan Jingyi, and ran away with the basketball.
After they left, Wei WuXian turned to the two children and asked sternly, "Why didn't you press the alarm?"
"I'm afraid... I'm afraid that you and Mr. Lan will worry." Lan Jingyi lowered his head, his voice muffled, "And I promised not to use magic, so I can only argue with them..."
Si Zhui tugged at the corner of Wei Wuxian's clothes and said, "Daddy, don't blame Jingyi. They were the ones who started cursing first."
Wei Wuxian sighed and squatted down to brush off the dust on them. "Arguing won't solve the problem. Next time you encounter something like this, press the alarm or call us immediately, okay?" He looked at the corner of Lan Jingyi's mouth. "Does it hurt? Let Wen Ning apply medicine when we get back."
Lan Jingyi shook his head, then suddenly looked up and said, "Senior Wei, I didn't use any magic. I'll remember what you said."
Wei WuXian felt warm inside and patted his head: "Good job."
On the way back, Si Zhui leaned against Wei Wuxian's chest and whispered, "Dad, just now I almost couldn't help but let the wooden kite glow to scare them away, but I remembered what you said and held back."
“You did the right thing.” Wei Wuxian kissed his forehead. “Although we can’t use magic, we have more important things—like courage, like protecting each other.” He looked at Lan Wangji who was driving and smiled. “Right, Mr. Lan?”
Lan Wangji glanced at them through the rearview mirror, a smile in his eyes, and said "hmm" softly.
The streetlights outside the car window formed a series of flowing lights and shadows. Sizhui quickly fell asleep in Wei Wuxian's arms. Lan Jingyi yawned, his eyes gradually blurring. Wei Wuxian looked at the two children's tired but peaceful sleeping faces and suddenly felt that even without magic, even if they had to live cautiously in this modern society, as long as the family was together, it seemed that any difficulties could be overcome.

The system's notification sound suddenly rang out, and Wei Wuxian raised his eyebrows. It seemed that these 1 billion likes points were not that difficult to earn.
