Chapter 62 Poor Wei Wuxian

Chapter 62 Poor Wei Wuxian

Wei Wuxian mentally cursed himself for being too talkative when he dawdled his way into the study. Lan Qiren was sitting at his desk, flipping through the children's copied house rules. His fingertips tapped lightly on the paper, a rhythmic "thump, thump" sound that made his scalp tingle.

“Uncle.” Wei Wuxian stood obediently in front of the desk, putting on a standard gesture of admitting his mistake—this was an instinct he developed when he was punished in the Cloud Recesses.

Lan Qiren raised his eyes, his gaze behind his glasses as sharp as ever: "What did you say outside just now?"

“No, I didn’t say anything.” Wei WuXian’s eyes wandered, pretending not to understand. “I just told the director to praise you for your good teaching skills.”

"Praise me?" Lan Qiren snorted coldly, picking up the ruler on the table. Unbeknownst to him, this ruler, which he had used for many years in the Cloud Recesses, had also traveled here and now lay quietly beside the inkstone. "I think you've forgotten what it felt like to copy the family rules until your fingers were swollen."

Wei WuXian's heart skipped a beat. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the filming director peeking through the doorway, camera in hand. His face was nearly wrinkled. "Uncle, let's talk it over nicely. Don't use force. We're still filming..."

"It's perfect for filming." Lan Qiren stood up and tapped his palm lightly with the ruler. "Let the audience see what 'no rules, no order' means. You just instigated the children to break the rules. As punishment, you must copy the House Rules ten times and hand them in before dinner."

“Ten times?!” Wei WuXian nearly jumped up. “Uncle, these modern family rules have two more than the old ones! Even if I copied them ten times until midnight, I wouldn’t be able to finish!”

"Then don't have dinner." Lan Qiren's tone was calm, but with an unquestionable majesty. "Or, do you want to try the ruler?"

Wei WuXian immediately became intimidated, muttering softly, "Copy it if you want, who's afraid of who..."

Lan Qiren ignored him and turned to the three children, saying, "Once you're done copying, go play in the yard. Let Wen Ning watch you."

Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi held back their laughter and pulled Si Zhui out of the study. When passing by Wei Wuxian, Lan Jingyi deliberately imitated his tone: "Senior Wei, come on, let's go for afternoon tea~" Wei Wuxian was so angry that he wanted to hit him on the head, but he was afraid of being caught by Lan Qiren, so he could only watch the three little guys get away.

The study suddenly fell silent, the only sounds remaining were the rustling of Wei Wuxian's handwriting and the rustling of Lan Qiren's pages. The director, tactfully, set up the camera near the door, capturing only a distant shot. While this scene of "fatherly love and filial piety" was amusing, it also held a solemnity that made it difficult to interrupt.

When Lan Wangji finished his work and walked in, he saw this scene: Wei Wuxian was bent over the table, writing furiously, his brows tightly furrowed, with ink spots on his wrists. Lan Qiren was sitting opposite him reading a book, occasionally looking up to supervise. The sunlight fell on the two of them through the window, and there was a strange feeling of "the good times".

“Haven’t you finished copying yet?” Lan Wangji walked over to Wei Wuxian and saw his flamboyant handwriting. He couldn’t help but reach out to help him straighten the crooked paper.

“Lan Zhan! You’ve come just in time!” Wei Wuxian seemed to have found a savior, pulling his sleeve and acting like a spoiled child. “Please ask your uncle to spare you two punishments. I still have a night show tonight…”

Before Lan Wangji could say anything, Lan Qiren said coldly, "Lan Zhan, don't spoil him."

Lan Wangji looked at Wei Wuxian's pitiful appearance, then at his uncle's serious expression. In the end, he just sighed and picked up a blank paper from the table: "I'll copy half for you."

"Lan Zhan, you are so nice!" Wei Wuxian's eyes lit up, and just as he was about to lean over to kiss him, he was interrupted by Lan Qiren's cough. He could only withdraw his head in disappointment and continue writing.

Lan Wangji held a pen, his handwriting neat and printed, a stark contrast to Wei Wuxian's sloppy writing. The two sat side by side at the desk, one working hard with a grimace, the other helping with an expressionless face. When the scene caught the camera, the commentary instantly exploded:

"Hahahaha, Teacher Wei has finally suffered this! Please tell me how much psychological trauma he has suffered at this moment!"

"Boss Lan is too doting! He even helped me copy the house rules! What kind of fairy tale love is this!"

"Mr. Lan is so tough! My grandfather was like that too. He even made my dad stand in the corner when he was forty!"

[Ding! Audience happiness detected, Favorability +180,000. Current total progress: 2,335,000/100,000,000.]

When the system notification sounded, Wei WuXian was just writing down the rule about "No coquettishness or trickery." He was so angry that he poked a small hole in the paper with his pen: "What a lousy family rule! They even control coquettishness..."

Lan Wangji took a look, silently pulled the paper away, and replaced it with a new one: "Don't damage the paper."

Wei Wuxian looked at his serious profile and suddenly felt that this punishment of copying was not so unbearable. The corners of his mouth curled up secretly - since there was someone to accompany him anyway, he might as well copy it ten times. At worst, he could ask Lan Zhan to treat him to a midnight snack to make up for it.

Outside the window, three children were flying kites under Wen Ning's supervision, their laughter drifting into the study on the wind. Wei Wuxian looked out the window. The sun was shining brightly, and his lover was by his side. Although he had been punished by his uncle to copy the family rules, his heart was warm.

He secretly touched Lan Wangji's hand and whispered, "Lan Zhan, after you finish copying tonight, can you treat me to some crayfish? I want it extra spicy."

Lan Wangji paused with his pen, leaving a tiny dot of ink on the paper, but still uttered a soft "hmm".

Lan Qiren put down his book and looked at the two people interacting with each other with their heads down. The corners of his mouth twitched imperceptibly, and finally he just picked up the ruler and tapped it on the table: "Concentrate on copying."

Wei WuXian stuck out his tongue and quickly lowered his head - never mind, for the sake of the crayfish, I'll just bear with it!
