Chapter 63: Interesting Things About Copying Books

By the fifth time he'd copied the text, Wei Wuxian's wrists were starting to ache. He stole a glance at Lan Wangji, whose handwriting was still as neat as a copybook, even the punctuation exuding elegance and righteousness. He couldn't help but slump down on the table in frustration, "Lan Zhan, aren't your hands sore? How come these modern family rules are harder to copy than talismans?"

Lan Wangji didn't even look up. "Not bad." He paused, then pushed the pages he had copied over. "I've finished this part, you better do the rest."

“Only halfway…” Wei Wuxian wailed, glancing at Lan Qiren who was flipping through the book to the page that said “No Laziness”. He quickly sat up straight, picked up a pen and pretended to write seriously, but in his mind he was thinking about how to slack off.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up, and he nudged Lan Wangji with his elbow, lowering his voice: "Look, these modern family rules prohibit excessive indulgence in electronic products. Doesn't that also include reading financial reports until midnight?"

Lan Wangji paused his pen and said calmly, "Work doesn't count."

"Why doesn't it count?" Wei WuXian raised an eyebrow. "I read the script until midnight and you said I stayed up late, but you don't count when you look at the report? Double standards!"

"Wei Ying." Lan Qiren's voice came from the other side, with a warning tone, "If you speak again, you will be punished five more times."

Wei Wuxian immediately shut up and continued writing, but the corners of his mouth were still secretly curled up, like a fox that had been wronged.

The director watching from the doorway was laughing. In the camera, Wei Wuxian was secretly scratching his head, tapping the table with a pen, and his whole body was full of "I don't want to work". But Lan Wangji was sitting next to him, as steady as a rock. The contrast between the two was so cute that the barrage of comments kept scrolling:

"Teacher Wei has so many little movements! They're just like me when I'm doing my homework!"

"Mr. Lan had a blank expression the entire time, but his hands never stopped moving. Is this the difference between a top student and a poor student? Haha!"

"Mr. Lan is the ultimate boss! He can shut down Mr. Wei with just one sentence!"

Wei Wuxian had just finished copying for the seventh time when the system notification chimed. He shook his aching wrist and saw Wen Ning walk in with a fruit plate. His eyes lit up. "Wen Ning! My savior!"

Wen Ning placed the fruit plate on the table and said with a smile, "Master Wei, Mr. Lan, take a break and have some fruit. My uncle said you've been copying hard, so he asked me to cut up some loquats."

“Wen Ning, you still care about me.” Wei Wuxian picked up a loquat and stuffed it into his mouth, mumbling, “You’re much better than some people who only know how to help my uncle punish me.”

Lan Wangji ignored him, picking up a loquat, peeling it, and offering it to Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian snorted, but still opened his mouth to take it. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lan Qiren pretending to read, his lips curling up slightly, and he immediately understood—his uncle had a sharp tongue but a soft heart.

After eating a few loquats, Wei Wuxian finally regained some energy and picked up his pen to continue working. This time, he didn't slack off. Instead, his writing became smoother and smoother. Although his handwriting was still sloppy, it was much more serious than before.

By the time he finished copying the last time, the setting sun had already dyed the study a warm golden hue. Wei Wuxian piled the ten sheets of paper together and slumped back in his chair, exhausted. "Finally finished... My hands are almost no longer my own."

Lan Wangji picked up the paper he had copied, flipped through it carefully, and helped him straighten the edges before handing it to Lan Qiren: "Uncle, I'm done copying."

Lan Qiren took it and looked at it, frowning, but finally nodded: "The handwriting is sloppy, but at least there are no omissions. If you dare to instigate the child next time, it will not be as simple as copying the house rules."

“I know, I know.” Wei Wuxian nodded quickly, but he was thinking in his heart - let’s talk about it next time, anyway, Lan Zhan will help me copy it.

As soon as he walked out of the study, he saw Jiang Cheng leaning against the corridor playing with his phone. Seeing him come out, he raised an eyebrow and said, "Hey, has the great actor Wei finished copying as punishment? I thought you had to copy until tomorrow morning."

“None of your business.” Wei Wuxian rolled his eyes at him, stretching his stiff wrist. “By the way, where’s Jin Ling?”

"I'm playing basketball in the yard with Jingyi and the others. Wen Ning is watching." Jiang Cheng put away his phone. "I just got a call from Nie Huaisang. He said there's an antiques exchange tomorrow. He wanted to know if you wanted to join in the fun. You might find something good."

“Antiques exchange?” Wei Wuxian’s eyes lit up. “Let’s go! Maybe we can see something similar to what we have here.” He turned to look at Lan Wangji. “Lan Zhan, are you free tomorrow? Let’s go together?”

Lan Wangji nodded: "Okay."

Cheers of children could be heard from the yard. Wei Wuxian looked over and saw Jin Ling sinking a three-pointer. Lan Jingyi jumped up and patted his shoulder in applause. Si Zhui stood nearby handing him water. The three children who had just been arguing with each other were now playing together.

Wen Ning saw them and waved with a smile, "Young Master Wei, Second Young Master, dinner is ready. It's the vegetarian noodles that my uncle loves."

"Plain noodles..." Wei Wuxian was a little disappointed. He was still thinking about the crayfish.

Lan Wangji seemed to see through his thoughts and reached out to ruffle his hair: "I'll take you out to eat tonight."

Wei WuXian immediately smiled, his eyes curved into crescents: “I knew you were the best!”

The afterglow of the setting sun cast a warm golden hue over the bamboo forest. The director, watching the two smiling at each other and the children playing in the yard, suddenly felt that perhaps the most moving aspect of this variety show wasn't the meticulously choreographed moments, but the casual, down-to-earth moments—the punishments, the playful banter, the laughter, the warmth—that was true family time.

The system prompt sounded softly, Wei Wuxian looked up at the sunset in the sky, and suddenly felt that the 1 billion likes value didn't seem so out of reach.
