Chapter Fifty-Four: Taking the Abuse of Power to the Extreme

Helian Si wrapped his short arms around Yue'er's neck, blinked his grape-like eyes, and shook his little head.

"No, Sister Yue'er, it was Father Emperor who told Sisi to go find the wicked beauty. Sisi is a good boy and must listen to Father Emperor."

The little girl decided to take this "borrowing the tiger's power" approach to the extreme, after all, she was just a little cabbage in the field.

"Your Majesty, His Majesty sent you to find it...?" The fear in Yue'er's eyes faded, replaced by shock and disbelief as her eyes widened slightly.

The kneeling palace maids and eunuchs in Yinglian Pavilion also shrank back upon hearing the word "Emperor," their eyes revealing fear.

Helian Si, however, didn't seem to mind. Holding Yue'er, he nodded her little head and said sweetly,

"Yes, yes, it's Father Emperor! Sister Yue'er, please take Sisi with you, okay? Sisi will share some candy with you when we get back~"

When Yue'er heard that it was the Emperor who had sent the little princess to find Consort Hui, her worries lessened by half. Now, hearing the little princess's words...

Seeing the little princess's sweet, coquettish expression again, even though the teenage girl was afraid of Wen Changle, she gritted her teeth, nodded, and agreed.

"Oh, Sister Yue'er is the best!" Helian Si happily hugged Yue'er's face and gave her a kiss.

The people in Yinglian Pavilion watched helplessly as the little princess arrived and left with an air of great pride.

They looked at each other, and remembering the little princess's words about the emperor, they all shrank back, none of them daring to inform Consort Hui.

In Ronghua Palace,

The news that the Emperor had bestowed gifts upon the little princess had stirred up a storm in the seemingly peaceful inner palace.

As if by prior arrangement, the concubines of the harem, each with their own entourage, headed towards Wen Changle's Ronghua Palace.

However, it was already quite late, and most of the concubines had already returned home. Only Consort Hui remained in Ronghua Palace, her face full of sorrow and tears streaming down her face.

There's no other reason than that, although in ordinary times, very few of the concubines in the harem truly regarded the princes and princesses as special.

But recently, the only person who has been blatantly bullied is Hui Meiren. How could she not be terrified and uneasy?

Consort Hui is still not leaving. As a dignified and virtuous imperial concubine, Wen Changle naturally has to accompany her.

However, after so much time, even if Wen Changle pretended to be dignified and virtuous, she was already getting impatient with Hui Meiren's crying and wailing.

Wen Changle picked up the Longjing tea from the table and took a sip, but the impatience in her charming eyes and brows became increasingly obvious.

Granny Cai had been by Wen Changle's side for quite some time, so how could she not see it now?

Looking at the beautiful Hui sitting to the side, clutching her handkerchief and wiping away tears, she spoke tactfully, "Master Hui, it's getting late. Would you like to stay for a meal?"

If it were any other time, Hui Meiren might have understood from Cai Mama's words that she was trying to get rid of her.

But the Emperor's infamous reputation had left a deep imprint on the hearts of the people, so Consort Hui had no mind to guess the meaning behind Granny Cai's words.

She feared that if she left Wen Changle's protective umbrella now, she would be taken away by the people sent by the Emperor when she returned.

I heard that the Emperor built a cave for ten thousand snakes in the palace. It is full of fierce and venomous snakes. When people in the palace make mistakes, the Emperor likes to have them thrown into the cave.
