In late summer, a gentle breeze blows, the shadows of trees sway, the sun blazes, dragonflies fly low, and the air is exceptionally muggy.
Inside the classroom, Helian Mousi, a tiny little boy, was perched on a small desk, swinging his short legs.
Her rosy little face rested on her own little hands, her grape-like, moist eyes staring at the dragonflies flying outside the window, lost in her own thoughts.
Turning her little head, she looked at Helian You, who was sitting up straight, holding his textbook, and listening attentively to the lecture.
Helian Mousi's long, curled eyelashes fluttered. The Third Prince's face really looked like a chubby, white steamed bun.
"Gulp~"
Helian smacked his lips and swallowed hard. It was nothing, he just really wanted to take a bite.
"clatter."
Helian You, who had been listening attentively to the lecture, had somehow turned around.
The little hand rested on the little girl's head, and the dark, bright eyes looked intently at Helian Mousi.
"Third brother, what's wrong?"
Helian Mou Sisi lowered his soft, childlike voice and whispered quietly.
"You can't eat it."
The child's voice was tender, with a hint of helplessness in it. The expression on Helian You's fair face was just like that of an older brother disciplining his younger sister.
"Huh? Third brother, how did you know what Sisi was thinking?"
Sisi was extremely surprised. So the taciturn Third Prince could read minds?
Helian You pursed his lips, unsure how to explain. His little sister's expressions were so rich that he couldn't help but want to know.
"Knock knock knock—"
Just then, it was break time in class, and Sisi, who had been listless and dispirited like a frostbitten eggplant, suddenly perked up.
She stopped worrying about whether her third brother could read minds or was just a little tapeworm in Sisi's stomach; her grape-like, watery eyes sparkled.
Taking Helian You's little hand in hers, she took her tiny steps and ran off towards the classroom exit.
Although Helian You didn't know where his little sister was taking him, his dark, bright eyes were fixed on the hand that Helian Mou Sisi was holding tightly.
He pursed his lips but didn't say anything, letting the little girl lead him forward by the hand.
"Whew!"
Fortunately, Helian Si stopped after a short while. He had run too fast, and now the little girl was panting heavily.
Helian You looked up, glanced around, and his fair, round face flushed slightly.
The reason was simple: the little princess had brought her to no other place than the latrines in the Imperial Academy, which were specifically for women.
"Ah, we've finally arrived!"
The little girl, having caught her breath, looked at the outhouse a few steps away with sparkling eyes, and pulled Helian You, wanting to go inside.
But the little girl walked and walked, only to find that she hadn't taken any more steps. She turned her head in surprise.
But then he saw Helian You's slightly blushing and shy face, and wondered,
"Third brother, what's wrong? Come in with Sisi."
Helian You's fair face flushed even more. Although he was only six years old, boys and girls were not allowed to sit together after the age of seven.
Helian You knew about it, let alone the fact that it involved entering a women's outhouse, something that would embarrass a six-year-old.
"Little princess, you can go in by yourself. Your brother will wait here."
Helian You, assuming his little sister was still too young to understand the taboos between men and women, gently patted the top of the girl's soft hair with his small hand.
With her fair, chubby face and bright, dark eyes, she looked at the little girl, and her childish voice made a promise.
"Don't worry, I won't leave."
