Chapter 644 She's Just a Salted Fish

The winter solstice arrived, and more than a month had passed since the expedition began. No battle reports had come from the border, causing widespread anxiety in the court.

"It's so cold."

Helian Si leaned against the window frame, the red crabapple and plum blossoms contrasting against his snow-white skin. He stared at the red plum tree in the courtyard, wrinkled his nose, and muttered to himself.

Nan Rong Jinghua was reading a book when she heard this. She looked up, sighed, put down the book, and walked behind Helian Si, gently tucking a strand of hair behind his ear.

"Why are you still standing here, Leng?"

Helian Si pouted, turned around and hugged Nan Rong Jinghua, feeling a wave of warmth mixed with a touch of grievance.

"Jinghua, I'm worried about my father."

It's been over a month, why hasn't my father sent any news yet? Has something happened? That bastard, Fo Lian, still refuses to give any spoilers, and all he does is look at me with that complicated expression every day.

A faint trace flickered in Nan Rong's stunning silver eyes, unfathomable. Her hand gently stroked Helian Si's hair, and she spoke softly, her voice gentle and melodious.

"His Majesty is the supreme ruler, he will be fine."

Helian Si didn't believe that at all. What kind of emperor, the supreme ruler, was unaffected? Emperors were just ordinary people too.

Father isn't a real dragon, invulnerable to swords and spears, fire and water. She bit her lip, raised her head, and her beautiful peach blossom eyes filled with determination.

"Jinghua, I want to go find my father."

She couldn't wait any longer. Neither Fulian nor her brothers told her.

But she wasn't really stupid; she had heard some of the turmoil in the court in recent days.

“No, the border is far away and it’s the dead of winter. Sisi, listen to me.” Nan Rong Jinghua rarely spoke in a deep voice, his divine face furrowed.

"Can……!"

Helian Si instinctively wanted to retort, but realizing it would be pointless, he pursed his lips, lowered his head, and remained silent.

"I understand, I'll do as you say."

Nan Rong Jinghua's expression softened slightly, but looking at Helian Si, who was bowing his head and looking dejected, she felt a pang of pity.

Well then, if it really comes to an irreversible point, I'll take action myself. I can't let Ah Sheng be sad.

It was already deep winter, and the Imperial Academy had long since closed for the holidays. After lunch, Helian Si locked himself in his bedchamber.

No one was allowed to come in, and then a commotion began. Did Jinghua really think that just because she said no one was allowed to go, she could do that? Are you kidding me? Do you think I'm that obedient?

"The dagger, the Resurrection Pill, and the Wound Healing Medicine given by my second brother..."

Helian Si looked at the bundle he had packed in front of him, resting his chin on his hand and lost in thought. It seemed there was a little too much. Also, how did he get to the frontier?

"..."

Silence is Cambridge tonight.

Suddenly I realized that I'm completely incompetent. My ideas for action are wonderful, but putting them into practice is incredibly difficult. So what have I been doing all these years...?

Eat, drink, have fun, and flirt with handsome men...

Okay, I'm just a lazy bum, the kind of person who's utterly useless...

"Ughhhhh!" Frustrated, she scratched her hair and vented her frustration.

"Princess, what's wrong?" Yue'er's worried and anxious voice rang out right at the entrance of the palace.

Helian Si: "..." It's nothing, I just suddenly realized that I'm a useless salted fish.

"It's nothing," Helian Si replied weakly, stuffing all the things he had rummaged through into the bedding, patting himself down, and getting out of bed.

She should go find some of her brothers; relying on herself is impossible, she's just a lazy bum.
