Chapter 114
She wanted to rest, but for Lina, that was an impossible dream.
Time ticked by, but it wasn't just time; it was the lives of Glenn and Abraham. This anxiety made it impossible for Lina to stay in Alexandria in peace.
Daryl, however, dismantled the motorcycle into pieces.
She didn't know how to assemble these things, and the more anxious and frustrated she became, the less effective it was. In the end, she ended up with a big sore on her lip.
The desire to escape had not died down, but escaping required skill. Lina continued to urge Daryl to repair the motorcycle every day as if nothing had happened, sitting aside to supervise and waiting for an opportunity to drive away.
That's right, she wasn't planning to fight the motorcycle to the death this time. Although the motorcycle was more convenient, she really couldn't handle it if it broke, and she would have to find a way to push it back, which was something Daryl liked.
Just as Daryl was symbolically and slowly fixing the car, with Lena sitting aside supervising, Rosita came over with Dennis.
Edison Pharmaceuticals and Boutiques.
From Dennis, everyone learned that medicine was a scarce resource in this place, and since it wasn't far away, it was well worth the risk to search for it.
Lena's face turned green. How did Denise's death come about like this? She's so prone to becoming a vegetable; her face turns green every few days. Lena thought she could play Poison Ivy; she could practically save money on special effects.
“I want to go, I just want to help,” Dennis said.
Lena sighed in despair, "Dear Dennis, your safe stay in Alexandria is the biggest help we can receive. You know, you're a rare doctor!" Lena was almost in tears, "I'll go, the three of us will go. Don't worry, we'll definitely bring the whole store back for you."
“Uh…” Dennis was startled. “I don’t think it’s necessary. The reason I went is that I can accurately identify what is necessary and what we don’t need to waste time on.”
“Then you’re wrong,” Lina said, regaining her composure. “Tell her what my style is.” Lina waved her hand dismissively, as if she were a boss beckoning to her underling Daryl.
“…She’ll take everything, no exceptions, or you’ll have to put up with her nagging.” Daryl shook his head helplessly and said cooperatively.
“Who’s nagging? I knew it! I knew I shouldn’t have accepted your proposal. It hasn’t been that long and you’ve changed. I knew it! What you can’t have is always the best,” Lina wrinkled her nose and turned to stare at Daryl with a mournful expression.
“…” Daryl’s lips twitched.
Rosita rolled her eyes; she really dared to say that.
“…But,” Denise hesitated, “I want to go out. I can’t wait for you to protect me forever. I’ve learned a lot recently, so I need real-world experience too, don’t I?” Denise looked at Rosita and asked her teacher for help.
Rosita sighed and looked helplessly at Daryl, "I'm definitely not going to take her out alone."
Daryl shrugged. "Okay, but you have to listen to us."
Dennis nodded happily.
Lina numbly wiped her face, thinking and thinking... but she couldn't remember!
Forget it, someone must have spotted them. She'd better find a way to separate from Daryl and the others later and keep an eye on them secretly.
They encountered a small problem when they went out: the only vehicle they could drive was a small pickup truck, which could only seat a maximum of three people if they squeezed in.
There was no intention to attack their size, but Dennis was rather plump, so there was no way a fourth person could be squeezed out.
“I’ll go to the truck bed,” Lina said, searching around the garage and finding a blanket. “Call me when we get there.”
“Both of us can do it too,” Daryl said, looking exasperated.
“Don’t even think about it,” Lina smiled dismissively at Daryl. “Or you can leave me here,” she said, her eyes darting around as she feigned innocence.
Without much thought, Daryl understood Lina's meaning: if he left her at home, it was uncertain whether he would be able to see her again when he returned.
“That’s strange,” Daryl said, though he had resigned himself to his fate, he couldn’t help but be a little angry. “There was a spare car yesterday, right? How come there’s only this one left?”
Lina silently quickened her pace in spreading out the blanket, creating a warm little corner for herself.
Not long after leaving the house, Lina regretted it.
Daryl's manual transmission driving skills are ridiculously bad.
After being hit on the head no less than ten times, Lina finally couldn't take it anymore and started banging on the connection between the truck bed and the interior.
Daryl didn't even dare to turn his head.
They struggled to reach the town, where they were forced to stop as a large tree had fallen onto the road, blocking their way.
Lina glanced at it, closed her eyes, and opened them again; it was still there.
The sheer reality of an impending dungeon raid made Lina pinch her philtrum for help.
“Let’s go, we’ll walk over.” Daryl reached out his hand, waiting for Lina to get out of the back of the truck.
Lina grabbed Daryl's hand and jumped out of the car, unable to help but sigh.
"What's wrong?" Daryl asked Lina, puzzled.
"It's nothing, it's nothing..." Lina shook her head, feeling exhausted. "My dearest husband, my dearest baby, you must know that this is just a temporary measure, right?"
"What?" Daryl's hair stood on end. This cheesy nickname was something he had only ever received when Lina burned three pots of pasta and he had to eat it all by himself for a whole day.
His intuition came true. Before anyone could react, Lina slapped him hard across the face, the crisp sound startling everyone into a daze.
Daryl didn't feel much pain on his face, just the sound of the blow, but he was still stunned. Then he felt a sharp pain in his calf. Lina kicked him and ran into the town without looking back.
"...What's wrong?" Denise looked at Daryl in horror. Had they missed something?
“…It’s nothing,” Daryl rubbed his face, making his cheeks a little red. “If you run away, don’t come back!” he shouted.
Lina, who had vanished without a trace, left no reply and simply disappeared among the buildings.
"What?" Rosita looked at Daryl in disbelief. Could Daryl really say something to Lina? She looked Daryl up and down. Could marriage really change a person so much?
"Let's go!" Daryl angrily grabbed his things and told Dennis and Rosita to walk forward. Before long, they came to a railway track, which led them to their destination.
It's too open; it's best not to. Daryl refused without even thinking.
He insisted on taking a detour, but Rosita didn't want to go through the trouble. Dennis, feeling conflicted, glanced at Daryl, who had already taken the detour, and finally followed him.
Rosita thought Daryl was really out of his mind because of Lina, so she chose to go straight ahead along the railway.
Finally, Rosita sat by the railway for a long time before the two people who had taken a detour finally arrived.
“We’ve finally arrived,” Rosita stood up and dusted herself off.
Daryl was somewhat displeased with Rosita's carelessness, but he wasn't the type to talk too much, so he just walked on without looking back, ignoring Rosita's words.
Dennis glanced helplessly at Rosita, and the two of them lagged behind, chatting as they made their way to their destination.
What exactly is she trying to do? Is someone following them? Daryl pondered as he walked, observing his surroundings but not seeming to spot anyone.
Lina, who had been circling the town several times, was now pressed against the wall, listening to the sounds behind her.
“…It’s lost,” Lina heard clearly, even though her voice was very soft.
"I didn't see her at point A," another voice said.
"Forget it, let's just go and arrest those guys. There's an old acquaintance there."
A series of hurried footsteps faded away. Lina didn't make any rash moves. She merely glanced in the direction they had gone, and then waited for a long, long time before the footsteps disappeared again.
They had people watching them, so they couldn't just wander around here. Lina thought for a moment, then climbed to a high place to get a general idea of the direction. Then, she hunched over and crept through the town.
After going around in circles, Lena finally found traces of the group. She recognized the leader as well—Dwight, a traitor in Negan's group.
Although he is not completely evil, he is currently Iron Wolf.
The betrayal is yet to come.
From a distance, they seemed to be surrounding something, and Lina didn't dare to get too close. She waited until they dispersed before she could see clearly.
Eugene.
By the way, I didn't expect that the KFC incident involving Eugene and Dwight would also happen during this period.
Lina pinched her philtrum. "You can do it! You can do it!"
Poor Eugene was tied up and pushed forward by them; he must be going to find Daryl and the others.
After carefully observing her surroundings, Lina did not follow them but instead took another route and circled around to their backs.
Thank you, Daryl, for the lecture.
This group of people all have guns and there are quite a few of them, so it will be troublesome if a fight breaks out. Moreover, that guy Dwight is carrying Daryl's crossbow!
He lied to Daryl and stole Daryl's crossbow and motorcycle. Although the motorcycle was recovered during the last raid on the outpost, the crossbow was still missing. Lina knew that Daryl was not actually very happy.
But there was nothing they could do; these kinds of good things were really hard to find these days. Even when Lina was searching for the Saviour's Hall and tried to find a new crossbow for Daryl, she came up empty-handed.
She has to get the crossbow back... Wait, so this means that Dwight used Daryl's crossbow to blow Dennis's head off?
After walking for an unknown amount of time, Lina saw Dwight suddenly signal everyone to stop, and quietly and laboriously raised the crossbow in his hand.
Lina glanced around; there were so many people, she really couldn't handle it all by herself! But she couldn't just watch this kid kill Dennis!
Just as Lina was struggling with her decision, a flash of red caught her eye out of the corner of her eye.
It's very eye-catching, and it's been bothering her lately—her big, red head.
The furtive Abraham.
Tsk, Daryl, Rosita, Abraham, and Lena, it's a done deal, this advantage is on their side.
Lena immediately pulled out her gun and shot Dwight in the arm.
She whistled arrogantly to warn Daryl, and the moment the group looked over, Lina quickly used the terrain in the woods to begin her frantic escape.
Are you kidding me? She couldn't withstand five or six people firing guns at her! Not even a tree could withstand that!
