Chapter 115

Chapter 115

Hearing the gunfire behind her, Lina immediately found cover and began firing, gradually closing in.

She saw Eugene fall to the ground. Dwight had not only been shot in the arm, but was now clutching his lower body in pain. Perhaps Eugene had 'eaten German chicken' again?

To some extent, Lena felt sorry for poor Dwight, whose face had been branded by his boss, whose wife had been stolen by his boss, and who went out hoping to make a name for himself by having a platonic date with his wife and his boss's wives. But this one time he ended up with a reputation for being crippled in a certain part of his body.

Although it was tragic, in the original storyline he had Alexander's blood on his hands, so Lina didn't hold back when she attacked, avoiding the brain and heart. This was her way out for the plot; she didn't hold back on the other parts.

Dwight's squad was no formidable force; they were quickly routed. Seeing the dire situation, Dwight knew that if he lost all his men here, he would face even greater punishment upon his return.

"Retreat! Retreat!" Enduring the excruciating pain, Dwight kicked Eugene, whom he had shot in the stomach, and tried to finish him off but was knocked back by an oncoming bullet.

They ran off in a flash. Although they wanted to chase after them, human life was more important, especially since it was Eugene! A guy who could hand-roll bullets? No way.

Lina put away her gun and ran towards Eugene. He looked exhausted, but he wasn't dead yet. Daryl and Rosita also ran over to look at Eugene.

“We need to get them back quickly,” Daryl said after glancing at them.

"Where's Dennis?" Lena asked Daryl, tightening Eugene's belt around his stomach.

“She passed out; the crossbow bolt grazed her temple,” Daryl said, picking up the crossbow from the ground. After so long, his crossbow was finally back.

"These two unlucky kids will probably stay home now." Lina picked up Eugene. Abraham, who was in charge of the investigation, also ran back. The group had slipped away quickly. After making sure they wouldn't return or bring more people back, he hurried back.

"Is he dead?" Abraham asked nervously. He and Eugene had come out, but they had a fight, and in anger, Abraham had abandoned Eugene. But the factory was relatively safe, and Abraham hadn't really gone far. He had only wanted Eugene to apologize for his attitude. He had protected Eugene for so long, so long. How could Eugene dare to say that he no longer needed his protection?

Abraham, who was determined to teach Eugene a lesson, did not expect that Eugene would be captured in the short time he was away. Fortunately, he noticed them leaving and secretly followed them, which prevented a major disaster.

"Not yet, but we don't know soon," Lina said. "Hurry up."

Over there, Daryl and Rosita lifted Dennis up, and everyone rushed to the truck. Luckily, it was a pickup truck. The unconscious Dennis and Eugene were placed in the truck bed, and Lena and Abraham squatted in the back to take care of them.

On the way back, everyone knew about Daryl's terrible driving skills. Rosita took the steering wheel and skillfully drove at high speed. She was a studious and intelligent person and fully absorbed Daryl's negative example from the way there.

I rushed back to the infirmary in Alexandria, only to realize that the doctor was also there, unconscious.

“I’m going to find Hersher,” Abraham said, turning and running out before he could catch his breath.

Lena slumped in her chair, panting. Good heavens, what's the difference between Eugene and a deer?

Fortunately, they had just looted the pharmacy and had plenty of medicine. Eugene and Dennis both had abrasions, which looked serious, but were not life-threatening.

After Abraham told Herschel to come to the infirmary, he ran to find Rick and explained what had just happened. They needed to increase patrols again and get the outgoing squads back immediately so they wouldn't go out again.

Those people were too close to them.

A moment later, Abraham ran back. Despite his appearance, he was actually very worried about Eugene. It was hard to say whether it was out of habit or something else. "Rick, come right away," Abraham said as he opened the door. Just then, there seemed to be some movement from Eugene's side, so Abraham and Rosita quickly went to Eugene's bedside.

"How is he?" Abraham asked.

"The bullet only grazed him. Luckily, we managed to save him in time. The antibiotics we got can prevent infection and save his life. This is all thanks to Dennis," Rosita said, as Eugene slowly opened his eyes.

"You're awake?" Rosita asked, looking down.

"I'm awake," Eugene said, sounding pained.

“That’s good,” Rosita immediately left the bedside and moved away from Abraham.

After treating Denise's wounds, Hershel wiped her hands and looked at Daryl by the window. "She's alright, don't worry."

Lina clearly noticed that Daryl's back had relaxed and was no longer so tense.

He was incredibly responsible; he clearly took Dennis's life on his own shoulders.

Lina liked this about him, but sometimes she disliked it; people who were too responsible always lived a tiring life.

“Remember to observe, and come to me if there are any problems,” Hershel said to Daryl, then turned and nodded to Eugene and the others. Hershel had returned to his old profession in Alexandria: farming.

A lot of time is spent there. Beth tries her best to help out. She always has to learn something. Planting is also a very useful skill. She and Noah are now two diligent apprentices, one learning to farm and the other learning to build.

However, recently Beth's attention has also been divided among her pregnant sister. Having witnessed the hardships Lori faced during her pregnancy, Beth, who was already somewhat pessimistic, couldn't help but feel nervous.

“I don’t want to kill you, I’m just looking for an opportunity,” Lina said to Abraham from the other side of the hospital bed as she watched Herschel walk out the door.

“You’ve found it,” Abraham said earnestly, bending down.

"Are you going to apologize for questioning my abilities?" Eugene looked at Abraham with equal seriousness.

Lina and Daryl stared intently at the bedside; the atmosphere, the plot—wow, it was captivating.

"I apologize for questioning your abilities. You're really good at biting chickens, Eugene. I say this with utmost respect. Welcome to Phase Two."

"No need to welcome me, I've been in Phase Two for quite some time now,"

Lena and Daryl exchanged a glance, then simultaneously turned to look out the window. Daryl was remarkably composed, appearing quite calm, even still angry with the group. Lena, however, couldn't contain herself; she was suppressing her laughter until her face turned bright red.

Fortunately, Abraham left the infirmary soon, and seeing how hurried he was, Lina had a feeling that something bad was going to happen.

Lina found out the next day, and it wasn't exactly good news. Although it's a bit apologetic to say so, Sasha accepted Abraham.

Lina wouldn't condemn Sasha for anything; she hadn't done anything wrong. After noticing Abraham's strange behavior, she kept her distance. However, feelings are always hard to control.

But Lina didn't have much time to worry about the two of them, or rather, the three of them.

She sensed something was wrong with Daryl; he seemed to be sulking, angry at himself.

The motorcycle, which had been painstakingly repaired for a long time, was finally fixed and polished to a shine. In addition, he was still resentful about being deceived by Dwight and the others, which led to the events that followed. Lena always felt that he was going to run away and hunt down Dwight.

All signs have made Lina hesitant to leave Alexandria lately; she is worried that the death train incident may be imminent.

Perhaps it's karma; last time it was Lina who ran away secretly, and this time it's Daryl who ran away openly.

When Lina heard the news, everyone ran out in a long line, just like the Calabash Brothers saving their grandfather.

Daryl led the charge, followed closely by Glenn, Michonne, and Rosita, and then Morgan and Rick, who went after Carol.

Unfortunately, Sophia found out about Carol and Tobin's affair. Although Sophia understood and didn't object, Carol knew her daughter and was still afraid that another man might appear in their house. Frustrated, Carol went out to patrol early in the morning, mainly to clear her head and pick some nuts, but she hasn't returned yet.

Before Lina could even pinch her philtrum, Enid rushed over, yelling that Maggie had a stomachache.

Okay, okay, don't let her live anymore, she doesn't want to live!

Lina frantically tore at her hair; she had to get ready.

Just as she was breaking down, Rick returned. Morgan was still outside searching for Carol's whereabouts. Rick was worried that something had happened at home, so he chose to come back first. After all, they had discovered several people who might have been killed by Carol on their way to find her.

"Be prepared, they could come at any moment," Rick solemnly instructed Abraham, the gatekeeper.

But he soon discovered that things would only get worse; they had to get Maggie to the hilltop village, and if they were quick, it might not delay things here.

With Rick in charge, Lina didn't care about anything else and rushed straight to the warehouse. She first took the fake warehouse logbook that Beth had prepared and replaced the real one in Olivia's hand. Then, Lina picked up the RPG and went to a corner where everyone was busy and no one noticed her.

Lena left a secret signal for Beth here, then climbed over the high wall step by step, walked forward for a while, and arrived at the car she had hidden.

Lina put down her RPG and took a deep breath. All the roads to Hilltop were blocked, even the detours. The Salvation Army was fully prepared and ready to lure them into a trap.

She wouldn't go to the hilltop village; she had to carefully avoid it. Driving wasn't safe either, as it would be too obvious. After thinking for a while, Lina decided to drive away from Alexandria first, then abandon the car and enter the woods. Once inside the forest, she was confident that those people would lose track of her.

She had to speed up before dark.
