Chapter 117
Lena tiptoed over the wall and, following the location Sean had just given her, bypassed the town's surveillance and ran towards the encirclement site he had mentioned.
Perhaps it was fate, but the beating wasn't for nothing. Lina, who was on the run, stopped and saw the warehouse she had been searching for for so long.
Looking back, seeing that no one was chasing her, Lina gritted her teeth, rushed to the warehouse, and flung open the door.
All the zombies in the warehouse turned to look at the door, staring intently at Lina.
Lina turned and ran into the woods, wiping away the blood flowing from her head as she ran, feeling her way up the trees.
But the bleeding from her head was limited and soon couldn't sustain Lina's actions, so she had to pull out the knife and cut her own palm.
Her head felt like it was about to split open, or perhaps it really had already split open. In order to save Abraham and Glenn's brains, she almost had her brain smashed by that bastard Sean.
Not to mention the physical pain, especially in the abdomen. It's no exaggeration to say that this kind of pain far exceeds menstrual cramps; it could potentially rupture any internal organ.
Lina relied entirely on her willpower, biting her lip until it bled profusely. The sun hadn't set yet, and she had to hurry, or it would be too late.
Everything in front of her was shaking and turning black, her lungs were throbbing with intense pain, and her stomach was... Lina touched her pants and exclaimed, "Damn it, Sean punched me so hard I had my period come out!"
Seriously? Is it poisonous?
Helplessly, Lina wrapped her coat around her waist. She heard commotion in the woods behind her. If all the zombies followed, that would be fine, but some would definitely stray off course. Right now, she couldn't make a big fuss to attract the zombies, so she could only leave everything to fate.
Or, if only there were prey.
Lina sighed. It wasn't going to be that easy to find. As the noise grew closer, Lina, who had rested for a while, wiped away the blood again and began running forward frantically.
If only someone could appear at this moment.
*
After letting Lena go, Sean frantically leaned against the wall, unable to describe his feelings. Lowry was dead, and he had nothing left to care about.
That child, his daughter, of course he cares. Lina's words weren't quite as convincing, but...
Sean's eyes were filled with complex emotions. He knew what Negan would do; he would crush those people's spines with fear.
Rick... Rick...
He hates him, he hates him to death.
But he loved him too.
Sean wiped his face dejectedly, gave a self-deprecating laugh, and after a while, he took off his clothes and threw them on the ground. He picked up his pistol, pinched the flesh on his waist, gritted his teeth, and fired a shot at himself. Then, enduring the excruciating pain, he immediately threw the gun over the wall, where it clattered to the ground. He clutched his waist, slid down to the ground, and began to roar and curse loudly.
Soon, the people at the alley entrance ran in. "Go after her, you bitch! I'll tie her up at the entrance of the Salvation Hall!" Sean said, pointing to the wall.
Unsuspecting, the two men climbed over the wall, saw the fallen gun on the other side, picked it up, and chased after it towards the intersection.
The remaining three men carried Sean and retreated to the temporary base, where there was medicine to treat Sean's wounds.
*
She would do anything for her family; she's capable of it.
But if she bleeds herself out further, she might not even reach the encirclement point as planned; she might die on the way.
Her stomach was in excruciating pain, and the bleeding from the wound on her hand was gradually stopping. If she made a few more cuts, her hand would probably be ruined. In this day and age, becoming a cripple is the end of the world.
She would rather die than be a useless person.
Walking through the woods, Lina saw a fallen tree trunk on the roadside. Sean had given her the right direction. The setting sun slowly dyed the sky orange, so bright that Lina couldn't help but shed tears.
We have to be quick, very quick.
There are fallen trees nearby, which means the Saviors are there. Most of them have gone to hunt down Rick and his group. The remaining field crews are no more than ten people in a small team. She can do it, she must.
Lena pulled out her pistol and checked the magazine before diving back into the woods. Following the hidden markings on the tree trunks, she found the group's hiding place. They were clearly relaxed, chatting around the car. There were about eight of them, each with a gun. Generally, they wouldn't kill her outright, but if the situation was special and they did, Negan wouldn't be too angry.
After all, their main goal is still the RV.
Lena nervously licked her lips. This feeling... now she really was the madwoman Sean had described, the one with two knives, taking on eight people at once.
Lina quietly raised her hand and fired two shots, killing two people in quick succession. Then, a fierce gunfight ensued.
The pressure of fighting six against one was not insignificant. Her pistol quickly ran out of bullets, and Lina leaned against the tree trunk, waiting for the other side to lose their composure.
Lina reloaded the pistol, then drew her dagger with her left hand, firing one shot and then the dagger, crouching and rolling, firing continuously.
Lina was hit on the shoulder and stomach again, but her eyes remained unmoved as she stared intently at the enemy, her gun firing non-stop until the magazine was empty.
There are two left.
Lina was panting heavily. Perhaps because the pain was too great, she couldn't feel it anymore. Lina looked across the street; they were behind the car.
Lina picked up the machine gun from the corpse on the ground and opened fire on the car.
The place quickly quieted down, but Lina felt it wasn't that simple.
Walking around the back of the car, it was empty. Suddenly, two people pounced out and pinned Lina to the car.
She's never been afraid of being stronger.
With a kick, Lina snapped the neck of the man pinning her down. The man on the ground stared at Lina in terror, a gun pointed at her head. The bullet grazed her temple, and a deafening bang echoed in Lina's ears. Then the world went silent.
The person on the ground had already been stabbed in the heart by the knife she had flung out of her hand.
She won.
With no time to waste, Lina stepped forward, pulled out her knife, and stabbed the man in front of her through the head, then began to dismember him.
She had studied a text called "Butcher Ding Carving Up an Ox".
Of course, I don't have that level of skill; it's good enough for me.
Lina dragged off the corpse's clothes, cut the flesh into pieces, and finally wrapped it in his clothes. The bloody mass kept dripping blood onto the ground, which came in handy.
Lina didn't finish off the other corpses; it would be even better if they turned into zombies, as they would be useful then.
She tried to stand up, but her legs gave way. Lina glanced at herself, feeling dizzy, and didn't notice that she had also been shot in the leg. Her whole body ached, and she couldn't even tell how many shots she had taken.
One against eight is a fight to the death.
Luckily, there was a car nearby. Lina struggled to climb into the driver's seat, where the key was still in the ignition. Taking a breath, Lina slowly started the car, walking forward while grabbing a handful of meat chunks and throwing them on the ground.
The commotion just now was quite significant; it will likely attract not only the zombies but also people.
Lina stared blankly ahead when the car radio crackled to life, "...Lu? What's going on? You guys are making too much noise over there."
"Lu? Did you hear a reply?"
"...fuck!"
Lina tried changing the channel, hoping to hear their plan, but she wasn't always lucky; all she heard on the radio was a crackling static.
Well, we should be there soon.
The sky darkened, and Lina's heart sank.
The only thing that gave her peace of mind in the darkness was the light in the distance. The ambush point was right there.
Lina stopped the car. She had used up most of the body parts in her clothes. Lina limped toward the light, throwing away the body parts as she went, until she had thrown them all away. Finally, she dragged her blood-soaked clothes to the front of the encirclement point.
There were many Salvation Army soldiers, and Rick and his men kneeling in a row.
She needed time. Lina's fingers dug into the tree trunk in her anxiety. The horde of zombies hadn't arrived yet; she needed more time.
She watched Negan muster his troops, while behind her remained utterly silent. This damn world always seemed to fail her when she needed the horde of zombies to appear.
Time, time, like sand slipping through your fingers, like wind you can't grasp.
The baseball bat was pointed at Abraham, and Negan raised the bat high and brought it down.
Lina pulled out her RPG, took out a rope from her pocket, tied it around herself and the RPG, then threw away her backpack. Her unease made her hands sweaty, her chest heaving violently, and her breathing was almost greedy, as if she were about to suffocate.
"Stop!" Lina walked out carrying her RPG, and like Moses parting the sea, the crowd in front of her parted to make way. Lina didn't rush in all at once, but stood at the edge of the crowd, the gun pointed at them.
A panicked Rick was devastated when he saw Lina. Rather than Lina coming to rescue them alone, he would have preferred that Lina stay safely somewhere. This time, it was a dead end.
But a glimmer of hope ignited within me; perhaps she would bring another miracle.
Daryl, draped in his cloak, turned to look at Lina, who looked utterly disheveled, her face bruised and swollen, her head and body covered in blood, with at least three gunshot wounds visible to him.
Daryl felt sad, ashamed, and in pain because he could never protect Lina.
Negan stood frozen in place, club in hand, while the rest of the Saviors looked at each other, bewildered by the situation.
"Let them go, or we'll all die together," Lina said, forcing herself to speak.
Negan didn't speak. He stared at Lena strangely for a long time, then waved his hand, and the Saviors in front of Lena retreated behind him. Negan took two steps back. "Come closer. Since we're negotiating, let me see clearly which reckless little girl is so bold."
Lina took a few steps forward and stood in the light, the RPG steadily resting on her shoulder, the rope on her finger tied to the trigger. She was clearly prepared; if she were hit, the cannonball would still fire.
Negan swung his baseball bat, watching Lena walk back and forth. "Kid, you look terrible," he said casually, as if he were chatting.
If we were to leave this oppressive environment, we might feel a sense of warmth and comfort.
“You must have had a very special day.” Negan stopped and looked at Lina.
“Thanks to your man, he almost killed me,” Lina said, watching Negan’s every move nervously.
“Tsk, I told them not to be too rough,” Negan clicked his tongue in annoyance. “Believe me, we’re usually exceptionally gentle with ladies.”
"Fuck you," Lina said irritably. She wasn't going to talk about this with Negan... Well, it wouldn't hurt to talk about it more.
“Wow…” Negan shook his head. “You have quite the temper.”
“The guy I have is even more short-tempered,” Lina said coldly.
“That’s true,” Negan chuckled, glancing at the RPG in Lina’s hand. That glance immediately alerted him to something amiss. He looked down at Daryl at his feet, focusing on his fingers.
"..." Negan pursed his lips with an unfriendly expression, looking at Lina with a half-smile. "Sincerely, I think children are always worth protecting, especially in this world." Negan swaggered over to Karl and kicked him with his foot. "Even if it's a future little serial killer like us, you know, children, the future, hope, all possibilities."
Lena frowned uneasily. What was wrong with this guy? Oh well, he's Negan, so it's only natural that he's not entirely right in the head.
“Since you’re so dedicated to protecting the child, why don’t you let the child and the pregnant woman leave first?” Lina said.
“My God,” Negan said dramatically, covering his mouth. “So that’s why you’re so nervous?” He turned to look at Glenn, then at Maggie. “Unbelievable. You guys are really bold. Well, otherwise you wouldn’t have attacked my people.”
Negan twirled his baseball bat. "I've made my choice," he said, pointing to Abraham, whose head was now truly red. "I was going to smash him in, but..." Negan raised an eyebrow. "I can use a gun, and then, as I said before, it'll all be over. You guys will work for me from now on. And you, little girl, you can put your RPG away. Oh my god, I still don't like girls pointing cannons at me; I'm usually better suited for that role... Oh my god, I forgot there are minors here."
"You pervert," Lina cursed. "I don't care what kind of deal you're trying to make, I don't care. Make them leave, and I'll leave with the RPG. Otherwise, I'll blow you all up."
Negan laughed angrily, "I've already compromised so much against my own principles, and you're still as stubborn as ever."
"Let them go, or we'll all die together," Lina insisted.
“This is really putting me in a difficult position,” Negan said, but his expression remained very relaxed. He looked at Daryl meaningfully, and Dwight immediately stepped forward and dragged Daryl over.
“They’re having an affair,” Dwight explained to Negan.
He's not blind! Negan glanced at Dwight expressionlessly, then pulled Daryl aside. He looked at Lena, who was clearly more flustered than before.
“I used to like you a lot,” Negan said, patting Daryl on the shoulder, “but you know, I can’t stand those scheming old men who always try to take advantage of naive young girls, and you seem to be one of them.”
"Fuck you!" Lina snapped. "I'm an adult now!"
“Fine, fine, fine,” Negan scoffed. “I didn’t say he was a pedophile.”
The two sides were locked in a stalemate. Negan rolled his eyes and pointed at Eugene with Lucille. "Hey, Beatles, go drive your RV over there, and then," Negan glanced at Lena, "you can get in one by one and leave. Is that okay?"
Eugene stood up shakily, walked to the RV, and started the engine under the cold stares of the Salvation Army.
“Negan!” Simon looked at him in confusion, his eyes flashing with murderous intent as he swept over Lena. “We shouldn’t…”
“Shh, Simon,” Negan turned his head impatiently to look at him, his expression cold and menacing, “Don’t question me, or are you trying to replace me?”
Simon glared at Lina with resentment, watching helplessly as the RV drove towards the people kneeling behind Lina, who stood up one by one and walked towards the RV.
Only Daryl remained.
Lina looked at Daryl with tears in her eyes. Daryl's gaze was firm, and he nodded slightly to her. Lina trembled all over, and tears finally streamed down her face.
