Chapter 13
The next morning, Lina arrived at the restaurant, determined to cherish this breakfast, the last hot meal she would have in a short time.
"Good morning." T-boy was frying eggs.
“I used to dislike eggs,” Lina said longingly, the apocalypse having cured most of her picky eating habits.
“Then you’d better eat more today, it’s T-boy’s special,” T-boy handed Lina a plate, “and there are fried potatoes over there,” he said with a knowing look.
Lina truly understands; potatoes are the most perfect food in the world! Fried potatoes are simply unbelievably delicious!
Lina happily picked up the plate and piled it high with food; she was going to eat until she was sick of it!
T-boy looked at Lina with amusement, then remembered his eggs! Sure enough, the bottom was a little burnt, but it didn't matter, those hangover guys probably wouldn't be able to taste it.
"Good morning—" Glenn sat painfully at the table, clutching his forehead and groaning.
"Azashi, you're so bad at this." Lina stuffed a big mouthful of fried potato into her mouth and looked at Glenn with disdain.
"Uh-oh—" Glenn wasn't even in the mood to argue with Lena, and Jacques worriedly leaned over and touched Glenn's forehead.
Rick handed the medicine to Glenn.
"I really don't want to drink alcohol anymore," Glenn wailed as he swallowed the pills.
Everyone chatted merrily, enjoying a relaxed breakfast time.
Lina suddenly remembered a video she had seen before, and she felt a little annoyed that she should have remembered it last night!
Lena carried the plate and sat down next to Glenn. Rick was a little surprised, but he wisely put down the food in his hand and looked at Lena and Glenn.
Lina whispered like a devil, in a language no one could understand, "Oppa, of course we'll toast, right? No half a glass, no half a glass~" Her shoulders swayed comically from side to side, and Rick couldn't help but laugh, "What are you talking about?"
Glenn was somewhat surprised, but the surprise made the pain seem less intense. He looked at Lina with a mixture of surprise and complex emotions. "It's Korean, like a drinking song," Glenn said, his eyes welling up with tears.
Lina's teasing mood froze instantly.
"Although I'm still happy to hear you call me brother, how come you know this drinking song so well?" Glenn asked in confusion.
Lina quickly noticed Rick's sharp gaze behind her.
“Hey! I just learned that from YouTube!” Lina almost jumped out of her chair. “I don’t like drinking.”
Daryl, who happened to be passing by, chuckled, "Yes, all she does is secretly pour Sprite into her wine glass."
"Hey!" Lina waved her fork, trying to hit Daryl, but Daryl had already bypassed them.
Amy quietly sat down next to Andrea and started eating breakfast. A little while later, Moore also came in. He glanced at everyone and then sat down next to Daryl.
Lina stared at Mor, then looked at Amy, who didn't even look up. Instead, Andrea calmly began questioning the Doctor.
Lina looked at Daryl, who picked up his glass and raised an eyebrow.
Oh my god, why is Amy so desperate? Lina glanced at Mor with a depressed expression. If it were Yondu, it wouldn't be a problem, but this is Mor. He's a womanizer, a jerk, petty... In short, he looks like a complete scumbag.
On the other hand, it seems that the Dixon family is surprisingly compatible with those pure, angelic girls—a rough guy and a soft girl. Lena used to ship Daryl and Beth when she was watching the show, but unfortunately, just as things were starting to look promising, Beth disappeared.
Lina suddenly felt a little uneasy thinking about this. She glared at Daryl and then lowered her head to show off her food. Daryl looked at Lina with some confusion.
Why is she angry?
After dinner, the doctor led everyone to the control room. Lina didn't follow. She knew what was going to happen. She should go get her backpack first. There wouldn't be time later when things got chaotic. She would be heartbroken if she lost her backpack.
She was carrying several backpacks and piling them up outside when she ran into Rick and his group of four. They looked at Lina with some confusion.
"Lina?" Glenn glanced at Rick and asked, puzzled.
"Oh, you should go back and pack your things too. We should go now," Lina said.
“No, we’re not going anywhere,” Sean said, frowning. “It’s safe here.”
Lena put down her large bag, propped it up, and looked at them. "If you want to see for yourselves, I have no objection. This is the CDC, and it stores all sorts of viruses that can destroy humanity. Its ultimate safety measure is to destroy everything, that is, to explode. Still feel safe?" Lena looked at Sean provocatively.
Rick had suspected it all along, but he was still somewhat shocked.
“We, we…” Glenn was somewhat bewildered. What were they supposed to do now?
“There can’t be only that fuel, we’ll find it,” Sean said, scratching his head in frustration. “What are you doing? Let’s go.”
Rick looked at Lina, who didn't seem to expect their reaction and continued carrying her backpack out.
“No, go back and pack your things, I’m going to find Jenner,” Rick said.
T-boy and Glenn exchanged a glance and hurriedly ran back.
Sean, panting heavily, said angrily as he ran down the street. "Fine, I'll go myself."
Rick had a bit of a headache, but he didn't stop Sean. Deep down, he secretly hoped that maybe Sean was right.
Lina was carrying two large bags. She could manage the weight, but having two in her hands and one on her back made it really inconvenient for her to walk.
"Hey, what exactly do you want?" Daryl asked, taking the bag from Lina's hand.
"Help me carry this to the door," Lina commanded without any hesitation, carrying the bag towards the door.
Daryl glanced at Lina's retreating figure and followed her with a sigh.
"Do you feel unsafe here?" Daryl couldn't help but ask.
“Of course, there’s no safe place in the world anymore,” Lina said, giving Daryl a strange look. “By the way, how are your brother’s hands? I didn’t see him wearing the thing Jenner made for him this morning.” Lina pouted. “I didn’t expect Jenner to actually make that for him. It’s so ugly.”
Moore commissioned an iron arm for himself, complete with a short sword, and Daryl had no objections.
“I already told you to find him a pirate hook-handler,” Lina said, still not giving up on her plan to dress Moore as a pirate. She lowered her voice, speaking in a strange tone, “and then put an eyepatch on him, ‘Ready, kids? Okay, Captain! Oh—’”
"Forget about that stupid sponge," Daryl frowned in disgust. Compared to that stupid look, Mor is better off as he is now.
“Okay, okay,” Lina shrugged, and as they chatted, they went upstairs, where Daryl left his things by the door.
But the door above was locked. Daryl checked and found that a password was required.
"Daryl, go back and pack your things," Lina reminded him.
“…” Daryl was somewhat helpless and conflicted. “Fine.” He compromised. In any case, it was better to be prepared.
Of course, if it were truly safe here, he wouldn't leave, nor would he let Lina run off to her death.
Lina felt much better after not knowing what Daryl was thinking; obedience is one of the best cosmetic procedures a man can have.
On the way back, Lina saw Rick and the others surrounding Dr. Jenner. Daryl frowned. "Go outside and wait for me." He had a bad feeling, but Lina was ready; there was no need for her to come back and risk her life.
“I can help you carry your things,” Lina said nonchalantly as she continued walking forward.
"No!" Daryl grabbed Lina. "Go outside and wait for me. Or I'll pull you out now."
"Fine, fine," Lina said helplessly as she walked toward the door. They'd come out anyway, so there was no need to waste time on this.
Lina glanced at Daryl. "Hurry up." Then she walked towards the door.
Daryl glanced at the crowd below, then rushed back to his and Moore's room. That guy had disappeared again!
After quickly packing their important belongings, Daryl ran out the door, calling out, "Moore! Moore!"
He saw Moore in a corner, talking to Amy. Daryl impatiently grabbed Moore and said, "Go back and pack your things now, meet at the door, quick!" Daryl yelled at Amy.
"Hey!" Moore glanced at Daryl with displeasure, but seeing Daryl's packed backpack, he stopped himself from scolding him. "What's wrong?"
"Didn't you notice the air conditioning has turned off?" Daryl didn't have time to waste. "Hurry up!"
Amy ran back to her room in a panic, but no one was there, which made her feel uneasy.
Moore glanced at Amy, then followed Daryl outside. "What happened?"
“Lina senses something’s wrong here,” Daryl said.
"A little kid?" Moore looked at Daryl in disbelief. "You believe her?"
Daryl glanced at Moore impatiently. "She's more reliable than you. Are you leaving or not?"
“I won’t abandon you,” Morton said with a sigh.
At this point, the others rushed back and began packing their things.
“See? She’s right.” Daryl smiled and quickened his pace.
Moore pursed his lips in disgust, looking at his stupid younger brother, who was showing off his foolishness.
However quickly, by the time everyone had finished packing and arrived at the passage door, an alarm suddenly sounded throughout the base, and the passage door was locked.
Right in front of them.
Daryl kicked the door angrily and rushed toward Jenner, yelling, "Open that damn door!"
"Jenner, open the door!" Rick gestured for Sean to pull Daryl away, then walked towards Jenner, barely suppressing his anger as he spoke.
Moore shoved Sean aside, pulled Daryl to his side, and glared at them.
"It's no use, the doors upstairs are closed, and the emergency exits are blocked," Jenner said helplessly.
“Damn it,” Daryl roared, lunging forward, but Moore pulled him back. “You know what? Doctor, I was just about to test my rookie.” Moore pulled his custom-made iron arm from Daryl’s backpack and threatened.
“Calm down,” Rick gritted his teeth and glared at Moore and Daryl.
“We can’t leave her out there alone!” Daryl said fiercely to Rick, glancing at Jenner as if he wanted to kill him right then and there.
Rick quickly scanned the crowd. Damn it, Lina wasn't there. Rick took a deep breath and turned to Jenner. "Open the door."
During the argument, Jenner stated that he could not open the door and that the entire base would be destroyed by HIT.
“She’s right,” Rick said wearily. He ran a hand through his hair and looked at the people behind him. They were filled with fear, confusion, collapse, and despair. Rick forced himself to calm down and looked at Jenner pleadingly once more.
He has to be responsible for these people, not just for himself; he brought them here.

Lina was getting a little anxious as she waited outside. She didn't have a bomb and couldn't break the window. The people downstairs were doing something and hadn't come up yet. She was a little scared. What if the plot had changed? What if they couldn't escape?
The more anxious you are while waiting, the more likely you are to overthink things.
But when she finally saw the group rushing towards her, Lina was relieved.
The path to survival continues forward with the sound of a bomb exploding.
