Chapter 136
Before finally achieving victory, there are countless nights to endure, but accidents, like the safety T that Moore said was accidentally torn, always force you to brake at the crucial moment.
Now, the unexpected problem Lina and her friends are facing is Sasha's issue.
Tara and Rosita returned empty-handed, and Daryl was nowhere to be found. Since he didn't come back, he must have been tracked down. But to be fair, Daryl might not be a match for Sean in a one-on-one fight.
But Lina couldn't leave Alexander. The sunlight, tinged with a reddish hue, stained Alexander a deep red. The sun was sinking lower and lower, about to set.
"Shall we go out and look again?" Michonne said to Lina with some reluctance, glancing at Abraham pacing anxiously by the door.
"No, it's getting dark, no one is allowed to go out." Lina bit her thumbnail anxiously. If Negan caught her, they would be doomed. He had finally gotten rid of the hostages, and she couldn't go out to deliver them.
“…just nearby,” Michonne continued, “maybe he’s already on his way back.”
“No, Daryl will handle it,” Lina said absentmindedly. “Michonne, could you go pack some things, food, weapons, just in case, okay?”
Despite her confusion and incomprehension, Michonne did as Lina instructed and began packing the supplies.
He wanted Judith, so he would bring Sasha sooner or later. Even if they ran into Negan, it wouldn't work. Lena paced anxiously back and forth. The sun slowly set, but Daryl still hadn't returned with Sasha.
Abraham couldn't wait any longer. He went to the door and tried to open it, but Lina quickly went over to stop him, and the two were locked in a standoff at the door.
"Why?" Abraham asked, puzzled. "Neither of them have returned. You know that's not normal."
“Yes, but not now,” Lina blinked rapidly, thinking about what to do. She was trapped by the plot. It was precisely because she knew what would happen that she was always hesitant. Did Alexander have to do without her?
No, everyone escaped in the story. Carl did a good job. It was her, she was afraid of something, and she always hesitated and dawdled.
“The two of us can’t do it; we need someone to lead the way.” Lina and Abraham both glanced at Rosita, who was watching them from a distance, but Lina quickly realized the subtle tension…
“It’s all your fault! You scumbag!” Lina said accusingly to Abraham.
Abraham was momentarily speechless, but then seemed a little guilty. "Didn't she just offer to help?"
"Ha!" Lina glared at Abraham. Just now he was with Tara, how could that be the same as now?
Abraham coughed awkwardly. "Well, then we can go find Tara." Abraham felt that what he said made a lot of sense. It didn't have to be Rosita, even though they worked together better.
As Abraham walked into the community, Tara was talking to Michonne by the car. Abraham quickly passed Rosita and stopped in front of them. Just as he was about to speak, there was a knock on the gate. "You might be wondering why your sentries didn't sound the alarm. Look, we're being polite. I mean, I don't know when they'll wake up from the shooting, but they should. So stop beating around the bush. You lost. It's all over. So line up in front of your little houses and apologize properly. The one who behaves the worst will be killed. Then I'll kill Rick in front of everyone and leave. You have three minutes to open the gate, or I'll blow you to bits. Damn it! I kind of regret killing that unlovable doorman last time!"
A melodious whistle came from the doorway. Lina, who was standing not far away, raised an eyebrow, quickly ran to the front door, and slammed her hand on it. "Stop whistling! You'll wet the bed tonight!"
The whistling stopped abruptly, and Negan gritted his teeth outside the door, "And you! You better get out here. This time, I'm telling you, I'm really, really, really angry."
Lena glanced back and saw that Karl had already arranged for everyone to prepare for the retreat. Lena simply climbed up to the watchtower and leaned against the wall, looking at Negan. "Did Eugene get this done for you? How did he do it?" This had really piqued her curiosity for a long time, knowing that the number of walkers outside the Hall of Saviors was no joke.
“Yes, Eugene!” Negan looked at Lina triumphantly, pointed at her with Lucille, and suddenly squatted down, excitedly saying, “Where did you find this little rascal? He’s incredibly, incredibly, incredibly useful! My God, I’m starting to like him a little now!”
"Ugh, disgusting." Although Negan and Lina didn't mean the same thing, it didn't stop Lina from making Negan feel disgusted.
Negan ignored Lena. "Now that I've answered your question, tell me where the weapon in the coffin came from?" He had known the answer since Sean disappeared, but he wasn't so sure. After all, Eugene was also suspicious; he used to be one of Rick's men.
"Don't you know? Guess? Maybe it's this beautiful woman next to you, or that scarred guy?" Lina looked around but didn't see Dwight. "What, is he dead?"
Negan narrowed his eyes. "Alright... then we'll have to talk about it properly. Which scarred man is it?"
"Guess?" Lina said mischievously. "Didn't you give it to me? I knew it. You didn't want to be the boss of these scumbags anymore. You wanted to team up with me to kill them and free yourself, didn't you?" Lina suddenly said.
Negan laughed in exasperation. "Please, please! Think before you speak. Oh my god, this is a real headache."
“Three minutes! Open the door,” Negan said, pointing to the door.
"Don't rush," Lina looked innocently at Negan, then the back door was smashed open, and several cars sped out, breaking through their defenses.
"You liar!" Negan gritted his teeth in anger, and with a wave of his hand, someone quickly chased after them.
Carl also climbed onto the lookout tower. "My father isn't here. You don't need to do this. We can talk."
"No, no, I'm tired of this game, son. Blame your father. He's not a good leader, nor a good father."
“If you must kill, then kill me,” Karl said firmly. “It’s all pointless. You shouldn’t keep hurting each other like this. If my death can stop it all…”
Negan frowned. "Do you want to die?"
“No, of course not,” Karl shook his head. He was simply exhausted by the war, and it was all wrong.
"Are you alright?" This question startled Lina so much that she almost stripped Karl of his clothes in public to check if he had been bitten.
"No, Lina!" Karl pressed his hands awkwardly against his clothes. "I'm fine! I wasn't bitten!"
"Don't talk nonsense. We can't stop now that we've come this far." Lina shook Karl's head, since he was wearing a hat and couldn't be touched.
"Ahem!" Negan cleared his throat speechlessly. Was his presence really that insignificant?
“So, you know very well, Lina, come here.” Negan stood there with his arms outstretched. “Oh, and bring that little guy along too, I quite like him.”
“You’re dreaming,” Lena rolled her eyes, then suddenly pointed behind Negan, “Ah! Sean!”
Sean?
Negan and the Saviors instinctively glanced back, after all, they both hated this traitor to the core.
Negan quickly realized what was happening, but when he turned around, there was no one left on the watchtower. He ordered some men to chase after Sean, while the others began bombarding Alexander.
Lina grabbed Karl and slipped off the watchtower. Most of Alexander's men had fled, so the two of them disappeared into the sewers, where many people were hiding. The ones who rushed out were just bait.
"You really saw Sean?" Carl was still a little confused. He took Judith from Beth's arms and asked.
“Yes,” Lina said after thinking for a moment, her furtive manner making it seem very convincing.
Sean, who was hiding at the entrance, had indeed been tricked by Lena. He turned around and used the woods to conceal himself as he continued to run inside.
When he returned to the Tibetan area, he was dumbfounded again—the person was gone!
Damn it! It must be Daryl Dixon!
Even though Sean was extremely frustrated, there was nothing he could do. The commotion outside was getting louder and louder. Sean quietly hid in the roots of a big tree, remaining motionless. As the noisy voices outside gradually faded away, Sean cautiously peeked out and turned back towards Alexander.
He was going to find Judith; he wanted to make sure Judith was safe.
Daryl, with Sasha in poor condition, hid in the sewers. Rick had already shown them the layout of the area, and as soon as they entered, they noticed that there seemed to be someone inside.
Daryl carefully pressed himself against the wall, turned the corner, and saw Lina and the others.
Lena rushed excitedly to Daryl, "Are you alright?!" After hugging him, Lena held Daryl and looked him over.
“No,” Daryl pinched Lina’s cheek, then gestured for her to follow, Sasha was still behind.
Together, the two carried Sasha to the main group. The innermost part of the area was more spacious, but the unconscious Mor was already lying down there. However, Sasha could still be placed down, as she was conscious. So Lina put her down against the wall.
“I’ll do it,” Siddiq said, walking over with the medicine bag.
Daryl stared at him warily. "Who?" He had never seen this guy before.
"The one Karl brought back before, the one from the little dark room," Lina whispered in Daryl's ear.
Daryl nodded hesitantly, his eyes full of questions as he looked at Lina. Could he trust her?
Lina nodded.
Explosions, gunshots, and various other noises could be heard from upstairs from time to time. People in the sewers dared not speak, as everyone knew the consequences of being discovered.
"I wonder how things are at Hilltop and the Kingdom of Gods?" Lina said worriedly. "We need to find a way to get everyone out of here quickly." Lina whispered in Daryl's ear.
“Let’s go to Hilltop,” Daryl said after thinking for a moment. The Kingdom of God was too far away, and if they went there rashly, the Saviors might discover them first. Hilltop was a bit further away, but there were so many people… and Mor…
Rick hadn't returned yet, and Daryl was starting to feel troubled. He wasn't sure how to make any decisions, which was bothering him.
"Wait a little longer, Michonne and the others have gone to distract the Saviors," Lina said. She had told them before they left that they would leave after things quieted down upstairs and everyone returned.
"Oh right, where's Sean?" Lina suddenly remembered and asked.
“I don’t know,” Daryl said, pursing his lips. He had originally wanted to make a move directly, but he hadn’t found an opportunity and was afraid of hurting Sasha. Since they were going in the same direction, Daryl decided to wait for the right moment and make his move when they were closer to Alexander.
Then they discovered the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army marched towards Alexandria in a mighty procession. Sean hurriedly hid Sasha and then secretly followed them. Daryl happened to rescue Sasha.
After listening to Daryl's brief explanation, Lina exaggeratedly cupped Daryl's face in her hands, "My God, darling, have you finally learned to keep your composure?"
Daryl was speechless for a moment, then pinched back, even though she herself wasn't much better off!
Just as the two were hiding in a corner whispering to each other, Michonne and the others, Rick and Dwight returned.
Daryl was about to explode when Lena grabbed him. Dwight was clearly injured and knew he was unwelcome, so he quietly hid by the wall without saying a word.
As soon as Abraham returned, he saw Sasha, rushed over, took Sasha's hand and placed it on his face, and the two began to talk.
Rick was startled to see the unconscious Moore, but at least he was alive. That was good; when he saw people dead at the sentry post, he really thought…
I thought I had almost killed them again, but thankfully, Mor and Sasha were both alright.
“We need to get out of here quickly,” Rick said to everyone. “Let’s get through the woods…” He looked at Dwight. “You said Hilltop was safe, right?”
“You’d better wait until things calm down up there; they don’t have enough ammunition,” Dwight said. “Wait until things calm down up there before you leave.”
Rick stared at Dwight for a long time before finally nodding. "We'll wait."
He looked at Daryl, who nodded and walked toward the well, quietly observing what was above.
"Can you carry Moore?" Rick asked in a low voice as he walked up to Lina.
“No problem,” Lina nodded, then looked at Karl beside her, “You’d better talk to him.”
Rick glanced at Carl and sighed. Just now up there, Negan told him that Carl was willing to die to stop the war.
“I don’t think he’s entirely wrong, but of course I don’t have the right to say that right now,” Lina said with a shrug, trying to sound casual.
“No, you always have been, you’re one of us,” Rick said. “But Negan, he has to die.” Rick looked firmly at Lena.
Lena sighed inwardly. "Yes, 'Negan' must die, Rick. Take a good look." Rick was somewhat puzzled, but nodded nonetheless. He faced his major headache with a question lingering in his mind: Carl.
Teaching children is not something that can be done overnight, and often their ideas are not necessarily wrong.
But he's too young and too indecisive; Rick will help him—that's a father's job.
Until everything happened, he remained steadfast in one thing: Negan had to die. He had given the Saviors a choice, but they chose death themselves, so he couldn't be blamed.
