Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Lina sat on the floor tidying up the things she had found. She wasn't a great organizer, but she had a bit of a hoarding habit, which was probably ingrained in the soul of every Chinese person.

In short, the rummaging through her bag just now took her almost half a day to organize it properly.

Looking at the backpack that was almost taller than her, Lina breathed a long, satisfied sigh of relief.

This is the sense of security that comes from having sufficient resources.

Speaking of which, she still had a packet of hot pot base in her backpack, just that one packet, as a memento, since there's no longer any chance to eat hot pot in this world.

She dared not wander into Chinatown again; the last time she tried to escape from Chinatown, she almost got herself killed there.

Even abroad, the population of Chinatown is not to be underestimated!

She still needs to live well, waiting for our mother to bring the overseas Chinese home.

Of course, that was my previous thought. Now that I've transmigrated into the world of The Walking Dead, it seems like there's no chance of going back for the next few years.

Lina was somewhat disappointed, but she believed she would have a chance to go back. As long as she lived, there would always be a day when she could return to her roots.

Believe in Mom, love Mom, wait for Mom.

Lina patted her backpack, stood up, and sauntered into the house. Dwayne, holding a baseball bat, nervously watched Rick, who was tied up on the bed.

Lina whistled, "He's got abs! Even though they've shrunk a bit!"

Morgan was organizing the medications when he glanced at Lena, a teenager, with a hint of exasperation.

"Can I stay tonight?" Lina asked Morgan.

Morgan paused in his tidying, frowned, and nodded. "Listen, kid, you'd better know what you can and can't do." He threateningly touched his holster.

Lina nodded. "Okay, no problem, you're the boss." Lina said very sensibly.

She wasn't interested in what happened next, after all, she had seen the plot countless times. Now, after two months of hard work, Lina just wanted to get a good night's sleep.

Such a rare opportunity is not going to come again!

Lina excitedly ran upstairs, found a room, and collapsed onto the bed.

Oh my god! It's a bed! A soft bed! I feel like my soul is sinking into it!

Dwayne followed Lina upstairs and saw that she was already curled up asleep in bed.

After watching her for a while, she remained motionless, seemingly fast asleep. Dwayne shrugged, gently closed the door, and ran downstairs.

"What is she doing?" Morgan asked, glancing at Dwayne.

Dwayne picked up the bat. "She's asleep, sleeping very, very soundly."

Morgan nodded thoughtfully. She probably had been living alone all the time and didn't even dare to sleep soundly.

Morgan hesitated. Perhaps he could let her stay? She was quite capable and could help take care of Dwayne while he went out to collect supplies.

The important thing is that it's really too hard for a person to survive in this world.

“You watch him, I’ll go cook.” Morgan patted Dwayne on the shoulder. “It’s your job.”

Dwayne took the 'difficult' task with his head held high.

Their resources were limited, and even though her backpack was lying to the side, Morgan didn't bother to rummage through it. Instead, he took out canned food from the cupboard and made a meal for four.

She might not come down for dinner tonight, but if she wakes up hungry, there's still something to eat.

When it was almost cooked, Morgan realized that he hadn't asked the girl's name, age, or background at all.

He was really panicked today.

Morgan covered the food in the pot and put it on the stove. Then he came into the house. Dwayne glanced at Morgan with a serious expression, indicating that he was doing his job very well.

Morgan found it amusing, but his expression remained impassive. He longed for his child to grow up happily, innocently, and carefree.

But this world...

Morgan's eyes darkened. He walked to the inside of the bed and observed the man on it.

Soon his eyelids started to twitch; he was about to wake up.

*

Lena was startled awake by the sound of a car alarm. She frantically tumbled off the bed, scrambling to find her knife. Her groggy mind slowly cleared.

Oh right, it seems like the zombie downstairs accidentally bumped into the car.

Lina breathed a sigh of relief and stood up awkwardly. Luckily, no one had seen her. She had looked so cowardly just now!

Rick, who was downstairs, was startled by a loud thud from upstairs and looked at Morgan nervously. "Is it them?"

Morgan then remembered that the girl was still sleeping.

Perhaps it was so startled by the noise that it fell off the bed?

“No, it’s a little girl, just like you. I picked her up on the street today,” Morgan said.

Lena rubbed her eyes, feeling a bit hungry. She slung her knife over her shoulder and staggered downstairs. In the living room, Dwayne was sobbing on the mattress.

Rick, wrapped in a blanket, looked at Lina curiously.

Morgan, while comforting Dwayne, glanced at Lena and said, "Son, there's still food on the table."

Lina nodded. "Thank you."

She picked up the bowl on the table; it was a bowl of sticky beans.

This was torture. Lina ate with a bitter face; American food was simply hopeless.

She really wanted to eat steamed buns, noodles, barbecue, hot pot, sweet and sour pork ribs, braised pork belly...

The more Lina thought about it, the sadder she became. She couldn't bear to live like this anymore; she was even worse off than Ruko.

“I haven’t asked you about your background yet, child.” Morgan suddenly remembered and looked at Lina.

"Me?" Lina snapped out of her daze. Oh dear, she knew the names of these people, but they didn't recognize her!

"Lina," Lina mumbled, unable to open her mouth because of the bean paste.

“Hello, Lena,” Morgan nodded, “I am Morgan, Morgan Jones, and this is Dwayne, my son.”

“Rick Grimes,” Rick said, wrapped in a blanket, looking at Lina with curiosity.

"Are you alone?" Lina didn't look very old, maybe twelve or thirteen? Rick was a little doubtful, mainly because Asians often look very young, and Lina wasn't very tall.

“Yes,” Lina said after finishing the last bite of bean paste.

"Always?" Morgan asked, somewhat surprised.

“From the outbreak onwards, yes, that’s right.” Lina pulled a bottle of water from her bag and said as she drank.

"Wow, you're amazing!" Dwayne exclaimed, looking at Lina. "You don't look much older than me, how did you do that?"

Lina paused for a moment, then said, "Child, you have a very endearing way of speaking, but I'm eighteen."

“I thought you were some kind of high school student…” Morgan looked at Lina in surprise, then looked at Rick, who was equally surprised.

“Asian, baby face, not very tall…” Lina shrugged. “I have all the elements. Thank goodness I didn’t go to the Netherlands or Northern Europe or anything. I probably wouldn’t have been able to kill a single zombie there.”

Rick nodded noncommittally.

After eating and drinking her fill, Lina looked at Rick and Morgan. "So, do you mind if I go back upstairs to sleep?" She was really tired! It wasn't that she was trying to avoid keeping watch!

Rick nodded. "I've had enough sleep."

Morgan nodded, and Lina happily ran upstairs.

Morgan and Rick sat downstairs in silence. After a long while, Rick suddenly said, "That knife is half her height."

“That bag too,” Morgan said jokingly.

The two of them laughed.

Although it's clear she has excellent survival skills, it still makes one think of some humorous scenes.

Even Dwayne couldn't help but laugh; at least he could still grow taller.

Unaware that people downstairs were laughing at her, Lina continued to sleep, and this was the best sleep she had had in the past two months.

It was also the most reassuring time I've ever had.

*

The next day, Rick was going home. Lena looked at Dwayne and Morgan and hesitated for a moment.

“Do you want to come with us? We can go to the police station to get some supplies later,” Rick said to Lina.

"I'll come find you later. I want to look around first," Lina said hesitantly.

“We’d better act together,” Morgan said, looking at Lina disapprovingly.

“Don’t worry,” Lina said guiltily, looking away. “I need to go find something, uh, something for girls.”

At this point, Rick and Morgan exchanged an awkward glance. "Maybe we can wait for you outside?"

"No, no, no!" Lina quickly waved her hand and slung her large bag over her shoulder. "You guys go ahead, I'll come find you soon!"

“Just two blocks away!” Rick said quickly.

Lina nodded haphazardly, pushed open the door, and rushed out.

Seeing her leave, Rick put on his helmet, picked up his baseball bat, and followed Morgan and the others out of the room.

*

Lena nervously hid around the house. She knew that Dwayne's mother had been in the vicinity last night, but she seemed to have disappeared by daybreak. She figured she couldn't have gone too far.

Lina picked up a bicycle from the roadside and began searching the surrounding neighborhood.

She hadn't found the person, but she figured it was getting late. If she didn't go back soon, Rick and Morgan might come looking for her, and if that delayed the rest of the timeline, she'd be in big trouble.

Lina looked around in distress, and finally chose a car and triggered its alarm.

Then Lina stood on the roof of the car and began to look around. More and more zombies were attracted to her, and Lina finally found Dwayne's zombie mother.

After hacking away the zombies blocking her way, Lina rushed toward her target, drew a short knife from her waist, and stabbed it into the back of the zombie's head.

At least don't disfigure his wife and mother.

After stabbing Rick, Lina looked at the growing number of zombies, took off running, ran to the bicycle she had just put down, and rode off towards Rick's house.

To be honest, her sense of direction isn't very good, so it was quite an achievement that she was able to find Morgan's house.

Perhaps because she had been gone for some time, or perhaps because of the commotion just now, Morgan and Rick also rushed back.

"Are you alright?" Rick asked worriedly.

"It's nothing, it's nothing," Lina smiled, happily tossing aside her bicycle. She had already accomplished the first major task!

Morgan seemed somewhat uneasy as he looked in the direction Lena had come from, but he didn't say much. He simply opened his car and invited everyone to get in.

Led by Rick, they arrived at the police station.

Lina took a wonderful hot bath! She wanted to stay there forever!

After all, there seemed to be no one else in this town. Morgan could clean it up almost by himself. If the two of them cleaned up the town together, they might be able to live a few years of peaceful life.

But... Lina stared blankly at the showerhead. Was she just supposed to survive?

No, she doesn't want to!
