Chapter 3

Chapter 3

After taking a shower, Lina walked out the door, drying her wet hair with a refreshed expression. Rick and the others had also finished washing up and changed into clean clothes, which smelled wonderfully fresh!

Oh, heaven!

Lina sighed inwardly.

After everyone had finished getting ready, Rick led them to open the ammunition depot.

Despite the abundance of truths before her, Lina was not interested in them.

The sound was too loud, and as an older Chinese woman, she really wasn't very good at handling guns. To avoid being killed or maimed by a gun exploding barrel, Lina decided to stay away from these cold-blooded gunpowder weapons.

"Do you know how to use it?" Rick took out a pistol and handed it to Lina. Lina shook her head in horror. The water droplets from her wet hair made Rick close his eyes and mouth in despair.

It's like the neighbor's big dog, after it's finished showering, deliberately walking up to you, its dark, sly eyes looking at you mischievously, then innocently shaking its fur at you, watching you angrily try to avoid it. It grins, its tongue dangling mischievously from its mouth, and runs away with a smile, continuing to shower under the waterspout, waiting for the next lucky one.

Rick's eyes were clouded with sadness. He still couldn't accept it all. Overnight, everything had changed, and everything was gone.

Noticing the water stains, Lina awkwardly stopped shaking her head. "Sorry."

“No, it’s okay.” Rick snapped out of his daze and forcefully shoved the pistol into Lina’s hand. “You’ll need it.”

Lina stared blankly at the gun in her hand, hesitant.

Seriously, I'm speechless. She's already a walking corpse, what's she still being so dramatic about? As if not handling a gun will make her a law-abiding citizen again?

Her knife has killed countless people; now it's just a gun.

As long as she stays away from Eugene, who hasn't appeared yet, she believes the chances of this thing exploding aren't that dangerous.

Probably.

Morgan and Rick exchanged a glance, wondering what Lina was thinking in that daze.

"Dad, can I learn?" Dwayne's eyes blinked. He also wanted to learn how to use a gun to protect himself and his father!

“I will teach you…” Morgan ruffled Dwayne’s hair.

“Hey kid, this is a very serious matter…” Rick said worriedly.

By the time Lina came to her senses, Rick had already neatly packed up some of the ammunition and was watching Lina with a leisurely air.

"I'm going to the refuge in Atlanta to find my family. Morgan and Dwayne will stay in this small town for now. What about you?"

“You can stay,” Dwayne said expectantly, glancing at Morgan, who did not object.

“No,” Lina smiled awkwardly. Of course, she had to leave and follow Rick to complete the main storyline.

And the key point is that she just secretly killed Morgan's zombie wife!

If we don't leave, staying here is just asking for trouble, isn't it?

“I want to go to Atlanta with you,” Lena said guiltily, touching the tip of her nose. She didn’t dare look at Morgan and Dwayne, even though she kept telling herself that she had saved a child’s life.

However, family members should be seen off by oneself.

At least that's what she thinks.

Rick gave Morgan a chance, but he didn't seize it.

“Okay,” Rick said, somewhat surprised, “Are you sure? I don’t know what will happen…it could be dangerous…” Rick looked at Morgan, “At least it’s safe here for now…”

"Safe?" Lina laughed. "Come on, buddy, there's no safe place in this world. The more people there are, the more dangerous it is, and the fewer people there aren't necessarily safe either. The zombies are squeezing out human living space, and humans are squeezing out human space too. I'm lucky to have met a few good-natured people like you."

Rick touched the brim of his hat, his heart sinking. Lena had been wandering since the outburst; she had seen far more than he and Morgan had, and the implication in her words...

He has to try anyway.

Once the decision was made, everyone sprang into action. A gunshot rang out, two horns sounded, and the two cars drove off in different directions.

Lena clung to the back of the passenger seat, looking back as Morgan and his son's car gradually disappeared from sight.

I don't know if she changed the course of Dwayne's death.

Lina felt uneasy and lost.

Rick observed Lena in the mirror. She was strange and conflicted. Sometimes he felt that her gaze was through a layer of glass, and he was just an exhibit on a display stand.

This feeling made him very uncomfortable.

“Hey kid, buckle up, you’re in a police car,” Rick joked.

Lina turned around, sat up straight, and fastened her seatbelt.

Like a well-behaved little doll.

A hint of a smile flashed in Rick's eyes; Carl would like her.

“I need to go somewhere first,” Rick said, seeing that the atmosphere was good. He still remembered the half-dead zombie he had met when he left the hospital.

Lina thought for a moment, "Okay, I'll do as you say, boss."

Rick couldn't help but chuckle. Was this some kind of cops and robbers game?

When they arrived at their destination, Rick didn't see her. He knocked on the car window and said, "Wait for me in the car."

Lena had no intention of seeing the great mother's tragic state; she watched Rick walk away, waiting for a gunshot to ring out.

Morgan was practicing his shooting in the distance, but he hadn't seen his wife for a long time. More and more zombies were being attracted to the area, so Morgan had to stop shooting.

She's usually always around, why hasn't she shown up today?

Morgan anxiously scanned his surroundings through the scope, but there was nothing, nothing, nothing!

He put down his gun, clutched his head, and wept bitterly.

As they drove along Highway 84, Lina casually propped her legs up on the platform in front of the seat, listening to music through her earphones.

This is an MP3 player she found. There's another one in her bag, but the songs aren't her favorites. But these days, there's not much else to choose from.

Rick glanced at Lena, who was shaking her head and swaying. The sound coming from her headphones was probably rock music, and he was very skeptical of her claim of being eighteen.

Rick picked up the walkie-talkie and tried to contact other survivors through the emergency channel.

"Can anyone hear me?..."

As Lina watched Rick's actions, a thought suddenly struck her: the people in the camp had overheard them.

“Hey! Rick! What are you doing, Rick? What’s this, Rick? Let me play with it, Rick? Kind Sheriff Grimes!” Lina shouted as she held up the walkie-talkie in Rick’s hand.

Rick was startled by Lena's sudden approach. He looked at her sly smile and her identical drooping tongue and couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"What? What are you laughing at, Rick?" Lina looked at herself in confusion.

“No, no, no, it’s nothing.” Rick put down the walkie-talkie. “Why are you calling my name so much all of a sudden?” It sounded even more like a puppy now. Rick couldn’t help but think of the videos he’d seen on YouTube, where people were giving puppies voiceovers: “Mama, mama, mama, mama—”

Lina just repeated herself like a broken record.

"I've never seen this before, yes, I've never seen it before, so I'm curious." Lina certainly couldn't reveal the direct reason, but to be honest, she was quite curious whether the people over there had heard her or not.

What fun things will happen?

Although Lowry and Sean were already having an affair at this point, and she was no longer able to resolve this twisted love triangle from the outset, she still wanted to give Lowry and Sean a heads-up.

“Okay,” Rick didn’t press further, realizing she wasn’t telling the truth, but he was more curious about something else.

“Do you realize how obviously guilty you are?” Rick said.

"What?" Lina was stunned.

Rick chuckled and shook his head. "I'm a cop," he said, looking at Lina meaningfully. "So what were you doing when you left back then?"

Lina awkwardly scratched her face. "Well..."

Rick looked ahead. "Is it related to Morgan?"

Lina felt a jolt of fear. How did he know?

She always felt she knew the future, and she trusted Rick because she knew he was a good person and would be a good leader.

but!

She was seeing a more distant future, or rather, she was looking forward to the Rick of that future. As for the Rick of today, she could say she was observing, letting things slide, indifferent... to the minotaurs... and so on...

However, she overlooked the fact that although Rick still had room to grow, that was based on the fact that he already possessed strong abilities.

Rick tapped his fingers lightly on the steering wheel, glancing at Lina's expression; she was stunned.

What's the difference between them and little kids? It's so easy to understand!

“He can’t do it… that would kill Dwayne…” Lina said in a low voice, looking guilty as she glanced at Rick’s face, afraid of being scolded.

“Yeah…” Rick sighed, so she slipped out and killed the walker.

"I made sure to preserve her appearance properly before her death," Lina added guiltily.

Rick chuckled. "That's really thoughtful."

"...That's it?" Lina looked at Rick in disbelief. "Nothing else?"

Rick raised an eyebrow, looking at Lina with a mixture of confusion and amusement. "Otherwise what? What do you think I'll say?" He was somewhat anticipating Lina's reply.

"He yelled at me, accused me of acting on my own, of disrespecting Morgan... and so on..." Lina muttered, looking at Rick with eyes full of confusion, as if to say, "Why don't I recognize you?"

Rick smiled helplessly. "I won't blame you for this, Lina. I know you mean well. Although I don't completely agree with you, I won't oppose you."

He was afraid that the child wouldn't be able to fire the gun once he saw his mother, and would instead run into her arms.

Rick thought Dwayne would.

How can a child refuse to run into its mother's arms?

Even though she had become a monster.

This is terrible, really.

Rick respected Morgan's wishes; Morgan wanted to do it himself, so Rick wouldn't interfere too much. Unexpectedly, Lena quietly accomplished something big.

Lina felt relieved and happily continued to listen to the song, nodding her head and swaying back and forth.

Rick raised an eyebrow helplessly. Sometimes he felt she was really just a child, but other times her ruthlessness showed Rick the cruelty of this world.

【Bang--】

"...So, you were lying to me just now... This is your... lesson?" Lina covered her head and struggled to get up from under the seat.

Rick gave her an awkward look. "I told you to fasten your seatbelt." But once Lina started playing, she never fastened it again.

“The car’s out of gas, I have to go out and look for some,” Rick said.

"Oh..." Lina covered her head, it seemed she was going to have to deliver horse meat by express delivery.
