Chapter 4

Chapter 4

“I have to remind him!” Lowry angrily shook off Sean’s hand. “I’ve been saying it for a week, we should remind him…”

“I told you, we don’t have time,” Sean roared back angrily.

“You can’t just let a name… Even if he might not have died back then, it’s been over two months, over two months… That’s not him, Lowry!” Sean sighed, holding his head in his hands, and looked at Lowry.

“Just think about Carl, he can’t lose his mother too…”

Lowry sat on the bed, somewhat helplessly. "...You told me he was dead, you said..." What did you mean by "maybe he wasn't dead at the time"? Lowry looked at Sean with despair. "What if it really was him?"

Sean crouched down. "That's not him, Lowry. You have to believe me." His sharp eyes locked onto Lowry, a look of despair in them that even he himself didn't realize.

Lowry looked at him and suddenly laughed through her tears. "Admit it, Sean, you know it's him."

"I……"

“Mom?” Carl’s voice called out. Lori wiped away her tears and forced a smile. “Hi, baby…”

Sean crouched in the tent, helplessly clutching his hair. God, could that really be him?

The voice did sound a bit like Rick, the same name. The broken radio had prevented him from hearing the last name, Grimes. No, no, Rick wasn't a rare name. He was dead, his best friend, dead in the hospital.

"Can you ride a horse?" Rick looked at the stables and turned to ask Lena.

"Boss, it's already a lot of work for me to learn to drive. I'm not a cowboy or a noble lady. At most, I've just sat on a horse and driven around the scenic area." Lina swallowed nervously as she looked at the tall horse. She was terrified of being trampled to death.

“Looks like we’ll have to get used to it,” Rick said, taking a deep breath and slowly walking into the stable.

A horse has a limited carrying capacity, carrying an adult man, an adult woman, a huge supply bag, and a bag of guns and ammunition.

Lina shed a tear of sympathy for the poor horse meat feast; it was a wonder he could still run.

“You know what? Going into the city is definitely a bad idea.” Lina said, looking at the other exit, which was completely blocked by cars trying to escape, and the wide entrance. “It’s like a trap.”

“I have to see it for myself,” Rick insisted. “But why don’t you wait for me outside?” Rick also sensed danger; he couldn’t take Lina to her death.

"Don't even think about leaving me behind." Lina gripped Rick's clothes tightly. "And ride slower, I don't want to tear your clothes."

“You can wrap your arms around my waist,” Rick emphasized again. He had said it countless times along the way, but Lina always firmly refused, saying that it wasn’t time yet and that he was not a man.

"No! Boss, watch where you're going." Lina rolled her eyes. Keeping her distance from married women was basic courtesy.

Being forced to ride a horse already made her a little embarrassed; having someone wrap their arms around her waist was going too far.

“Okay, okay…” Rick thought to himself, thinking about the conservative Asian woman.

Once inside the city, it was eerily quiet, and Rick frowned.

"The wind howls and the grass seems to be filled with soldiers..." Lina muttered softly.

"What are you saying?" Rick didn't know what Lina said, but it was clearly not in English.

"You know what? It's so quiet, something big is about to appear any second now," Lina said seriously.

“A helicopter!” Rick suddenly exclaimed.

He spurred his horse into a gallop, nearly throwing Lina off balance. She tugged hard at Rick's clothes, braced herself, and sat up straight. She stared at both sides—tanks, tanks… After pinpointing the tanks' location and roughly planning her route, she snapped out of her daze. Rick was already terrified by the horde of zombies in front of him.

"Run!" Lina shouted, and Rick immediately turned his horse around and galloped away. Bad luck rarely comes alone, and soon another horde of zombies appeared, surrounding the two of them. Lina had already jumped off her horse and was using her knife to clear away the zombies around her.

Rick fell off his horse. Lena picked up the weapon pouch that had fallen to her feet. "Hey! Rick! Get under the tank!" Lena shouted, jumping onto the tank. With her heavy pack on her back, she couldn't just lie down. Should she abandon her pack?

Don't even think about it!

Lena climbed onto the tank, threw her backpack down, turned around and killed two walkers, jumped down through the opening above, slammed the door shut, dealt with the walkers inside the tank, and climbed down to the bottom entrance. "Here!"

Rick, who had a gun pointed at Lina's head, looked up in surprise, quickly climbed up, and closed the door.

The two survivors collapsed inside the tank, panting heavily.

"This is fucking awesome!" Lina laughed heartily. Unlike what she saw on TV, this real scene was so exciting!

“Yeah—” Rick nodded with a smile, “but watch your language.”

“Hey! I’m not a child anymore,” Lina complained.

“I don’t think so,” Rick sighed, unbuttoning his shirt. It was too stuffy inside, or perhaps the ordeal had been too thrilling, leaving him drenched in sweat.

"How's your wound?" Lina asked, glancing at Rick's stomach.

“Thank goodness,” Rick began to look around, “we’re stuck here now…”

"You actually brought all your stuff with you?" Rick was a little surprised to see the abandoned gun backpack.

"It just happened to fall right at my feet, but it dropped a few guns and a few boxes of ammo." Lina tossed the bag to Rick.

Rick looked around; it was only a third of the tank gone, not a serious loss. He then touched the zombies inside the tank and found a gun and a grenade.

Just then, the radio started crackling, and Lina's eyes lit up.

Glenn!!!

This could be considered one of the few Korean men she liked, ah, the only one...

"Hey! You two idiots, is it comfortable in there?"

He called me a stupid guy!

Lina looked at the radio with delight.

Rick didn't notice Lina's strange excitement; he was simply surprised that there were still living people around.

*

"Are you ready?" Rick looked at Lina seriously, and Lina nodded seriously as well.

"Maybe I should go first..." Rick said, still worried.

“No, your gun is too noisy. I’ll use a knife to be quieter. I’ll lead the way, and you follow,” Lina insisted. She didn’t draw the long knife from her back, but instead drew the short knife from her waist. Although it was a short knife, it was still thirty or forty centimeters long.

"Be careful," Rick warned.

Lena pushed the door open, and then she got stuck in the hole. Her backpack was a bit too big... Lena tried to suck in her stomach, and Rick pulled her legs out from below, pushing her out. The scabbard stabbed Rick's face several times!

"Seriously, you should just give up on that backpack!" Rick said breathlessly.

After finally squeezing their way out, Lina first killed one of the zombies on the tank, then jumped off and quickly cleared out the rest around her. Rick also jumped off.

"Absolutely not!" Lina said stubbornly.

Rick shook his head helplessly, pulled out his gun, and began clearing the road.

The two walked to the alley entrance. "Hey! I'm alive..."

Lena pulled the iron fence up the alley. Hey, Glenn's raising his hand! Cute!

"Hurry up!" Glenn shouted. Rick and Lina followed him up the ladder and came to a platform. Looking down at the approaching horde of corpses, the three of them swallowed hard.

This number is terrifying.

“Wow, Eastwood, you new sheriff are coming to clean up the place on horseback?” Glenn said breathlessly.

“That’s not my goal,” Rick retorted.

“Fine, whatever,” Glenn said nonchalantly. “You’re still a stupid guy,” he added, glancing at Lina behind Rick. “You are too.”

Lina shrugged and put the cleaned knife back into its sheath.

"I'm Rick, thank you."

“Glenn, you’re welcome.” Then the two looked at Lina.

"Lina, Lina Li," Lina glanced at the two of them, puzzled. Why were they looking at her? "Li, this Li."

Glenn nodded thoughtfully. "You must be Chinese."

"Yes." Lina nodded.

“What?” Rick was somewhat surprised. “I thought you were Japanese!” he said, pointing at Lina’s knife.

Glenn swallowed hard and looked at Lina.

"Hey! You're really swearing!" Lina shoved Rick aside and continued climbing.

“Yeah—” Glenn glanced downstairs and patted Rick on the shoulder. “I thought she was going to slap you.”

Rick paused for a moment, "I wasn't swearing!!" Suddenly he slapped his forehead as if he remembered something.

Following Glenn, Rick and Lena arrived in front of a building. Glenn reported the situation to his teammates on the radio. Lena reached behind her, trying to draw her long knife. "Damn!" Lena cursed as she turned away.

Rick and Glenn couldn't help but burst out laughing.

Lina glared at the two of them, drew her long sword, and before anyone in the room could react, she had easily cut down all four zombies.

"Phew~" Glenn sighed as he looked at Lina.

"Come in quickly!" Glenn shouted and ran off.

The two armored figures who pushed open the door were also dumbfounded as they stared at the scene before them.

As soon as Rick entered, Andrea pointed a gun at him and berated him, while Lena watched happily, as if she were just a passerby.

Yes, she was happily watching, her smile contrasting sharply with the bloodstains on her face, making her look like a deranged teenage serial killer.

Perhaps because Lina looked young, these people only glared at her and didn't lay a hand on her.

Of course, it's more likely that Lina's current act of wiping her knife has created some intimidation.

“You’re practically ringing a meal bell for them,” Andrea said, barely able to hide her fear.

Rick was also startled by the scene at the gate.

Lina carefully sheathed the knife, and when no one was paying attention to her, she quietly twisted her body and shoved the long sword back into place. Tsk, she needed to think of a way to solve this problem.

Lina looked at the surrounding shelves—a clothing store! She needed a few long-sleeved shirts, and maybe a couple of short-sleeved ones too. Lina happily began shopping.

Glenn, who was secretly observing from the side, frowned in confusion. How could she be so oblivious!

Before long, Lina had filled another backpack she had found, and then she began rummaging through the other backpacks.

At that moment, gunshots rang out from upstairs.

Oh, Mor.

Lena watched them rush upstairs in a swarm, Rick's eyes searching the shelves, and Lena tirelessly collecting things again.

Rick rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. "Lina! Let's go!"

Lina glanced at the other empty backpack she had just found. "You guys go first, I'll be right up."

Rick and Glenn exchanged a glance, shook their heads helplessly, and followed the others.

Lina noticed their little commotion, muttered something, and squatted down to continue organizing things. These guys had no idea how much security a plentiful supply of supplies could give them!

Ha! I still have one down jacket that I've been keeping hidden away!
