Chapter 97

Chapter 97

"The same as always?" Rick asked Daryl after inspecting the pistol, putting it back in its holster.

"Hmm." Daryl nodded, casually fiddling with the arrow in his hand.

“…What do you think…” Rick hesitated, but Daryl knew what he was going to say and just shook his head. “I don’t know.”

Rick sighed. Pete was locked in a small dark room. Deanna originally wanted to exile him, but Rick thought it was too dangerous. In the end, they reached an agreement to keep Pete imprisoned.

From that day on, Lina ignored him. Rick pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.

Rick glanced around; everyone was almost ready. "Where's Lina?" Rick asked.

"Same as always, at the very front." Daryl slung his crossbow over his shoulder. "I'm off too."

"Be careful." Rick nodded, glanced at everyone one last time, took a deep breath, and stepped forward.

This was a major battle that determined Alexander's very survival.

Not long ago, Daryl discovered a valley while patrolling the area, which immediately clarified why there were only a few walkers around Alexandria.

The only winding mountain road was blocked by a large truck, leaving only a small gap through which one or two zombies squeezed out from time to time. All the other zombies fell into the valley, where they are now piled up densely.

The trailer was sliding downhill, and it was unclear when it would fall completely. Therefore, instead of waiting, Rick decided to strike first.

During this time, under the guidance of Reggie and Carter, they built some more steel plate walls and planned to lure the zombies away according to the route on the map.

It's very risky, but worth the try.

Daryl rides a motorcycle to ensure the walkers follow the route, while Sasha and Abraham drive to distract them.

The others also had their own jobs, and everything they did was to protect Alexander.

"Rick!" Moore suddenly shouted, and Rick stepped forward, looking at Moore nervously.

“I don’t feel well, maybe today, maybe tomorrow,” Moore said. “That car won’t last much longer.”

"Let's go take a look." Rick called out to everyone as they walked to the edge of the valley. From a distance, they could see that the large truck was teetering on the verge of collapse.

"We'll start tomorrow..." Rick emphasized to everyone again, following the original plan.

"Rick!" Sasha shouted in panic, pointing behind him. Rick turned around and saw that the trailer had completely fallen down, and all the walkers had come out in droves.

“We can’t wait any longer, now, Tobin!” Rick said hastily.

“No! They’re not ready yet, this is too sudden!” Tobin said nervously.

“We don’t have time,” Rick said. “Sasha, Abraham, get in the car.”

“This was supposed to be a drill!” Tobin yelled at Rick in despair.

Nobody paid him any attention. "Get moving," Rick yelled. Hesitation would only create more problems. "Get in the car, get ready!"

The carriage blocked by zombies was pulled open, and everyone frantically rushed to their respective battle lines, each doing their own job.

Lina is inspecting the wall made of steel plates. With so many zombies, can these walls really hold up?

Moreover, she always had a premonition that this was the prelude to the unpleasant things to come.

【Whoosh whoosh whoosh——】

Lina looked up in confusion. A signal flare? Aren't they supposed to be kept at bay during exercises? Could something have gone wrong?

Lina quickly finished her check and turned around to see Rick and the others running towards her. "What happened?" Lina asked as she rushed forward.

“The truck fell down, the plan is ahead of schedule,” Michonne said. “Everything is going well so far, don’t worry.”

Lina looked around. "Are you sure..." Lina felt a little panicked. She remembered that something unexpected had happened. Alexander, yes, RPG, Alexander was in danger. Why? W?

"Hehehe!" Michonne quickly grabbed Lina's shoulders. "Relax, relax, we'll handle this, Lina, take a deep breath."

Lina then realized the taste of blood in her mouth, and unconsciously bit her lip until it bled.

"Lina, why don't you go back first?" Rick was a little worried about Lina's condition. "Trust us, we've already discussed it, there won't be any unexpected problems, we'll handle everything."

Go back? Yes, she should go back now!

"I'm going back first." Lina took off sprinting. "You guys be careful too," she hurriedly left her last words before disappearing from their sight.

Lure away the walkers is a huge undertaking. If W's people are nearby, they certainly won't let this opportunity pass. If they attack Alexandria, they'll definitely make a scene.

Lina's face was grave. She couldn't stop it; she could only try to prevent them from rushing into Alexandria.

Without time to search the surroundings, Lina knocked on the door. Eugene opened the door and looked at Lina nervously. "What happened outside?"

“The plan has been moved up,” Lina said, closing the iron gate and then looking at Eugene. “Can the wire mesh be electrified?”

"Are you sure?" Eugene was somewhat surprised. Some time ago, at Lina's insistence, iron mesh had been erected around Alexander's walls, and electrical equipment had been installed. The batteries they had brought back earlier could provide the power.

“It’s not safe outside, we have to be careful,” Lina said. “Go turn on the power now.”

“Alright.” Eugene thought about it and decided to listen to Lina. After all, given her past actions, following her advice would be a very rewarding thing.

Lena rushed to the garage where the children had their classes, calling out, "Karl! Karl!"

It was less of a class and more of a group of children of all ages gathered together. Carl was chatting with a friend and looked at Lina with some confusion. "What's wrong?"

Lena grabbed Carl. "You take Judith and the others, and all the children, and take them to my house. You know the code. If anything goes wrong, lock the whole house immediately, understand?"

"What happened? Where's my dad?" Carl asked anxiously.

“No, Carl, it’s just in case,” Lina looked at Carl seriously. “You’ll do it, right?”

Carl hesitated for a moment, glanced back at Sophia, and nodded. "Very good, go ahead." Lina ruffled Carl's hair, turned, and ran off.

The wire mesh has been electrified, and the children have been handed over to Carl. She doesn't know when W's men will arrive. Should she take some men out to search? Or should she just wait inside?

Lina felt a headache coming on. Wait, Carol! Carol's here!

I wonder which family she went to deliver warmth to today? Lina wandered around like a headless fly. This community usually doesn't seem that big, but now it looks huge!

"Lina! What happened?" Maggie called out to Lina, who was running away.

“Maggie,” Lina didn’t know what to say. Should she tell her that bad guys were about to break in? She wasn’t entirely sure herself, and there was no way to explain it!

“I saw Eugene turn on the electric grid. What happened?” Maggie was very worried about the people outside.

“The plan has started ahead of schedule, Maggie. I wanted to come back just in case. We need to be prepared for anything,” Lina said, biting her lip. “If someone attacks Alexander at this time…”

“How could that be?” Maggie frowned. “We’ve been searching the area for a long time, and there’s no trace of anyone else.”

“Maggie, remember what Daryl said about the walkers with the W on their heads?” Lina’s expression was grave. “We’ve made too much noise this time. What if, what if they come…” Lina glanced at Alexander, “Those people will die a horrible death. You know how weak they are.”

“…” Maggie sighed. “You’re right,” she licked her lips. “I’ll go talk to Deanna about it, you…”

“Do you know where Carol is?” Lina asked.

"She just went to Deanna's place with a group of people. Let's go." Maggie and Lina were in a hurry. Lina was always overly cautious, but Maggie had to consider the possibility that what Lina said might actually happen.

“Lina? Maggie?” Carol and the others were talking to Deanna. Everyone was worried about the situation outside, and Carol had to mingle with them to reassure them.

"Carol! I need your help." Lina's eyes lit up, she nodded to Maggie, grabbed Carol and walked to the side.

Diana glanced at her with some concern.

"What's wrong?" Carol asked quietly as she came to the corner.

“I have a feeling of danger,” Lina said nervously, looking at Carol. “Do you remember…”

Before Lina and Carol could explain, a banging sound came from the doorway, followed by the blaring of police sirens. They had arrived!

Carol and Lina exchanged a glance, then ran frantically toward the door.

“Spencer! Spencer is still there!” Deanna said in a panic.

“Go inside,” Maggie shouted. “All of you go inside now. I’ll go tell the others, Deanna! Leave her to us, okay?”

Deanna glanced at the crowd behind her and nodded. "Everyone, come in with me now."

Maggie glanced at the route; she had to go to the warehouse first and guard it, otherwise it would be terrible if someone got their hands on the weapons.

Maggie ran wildly, yelling at everyone to go back to their rooms and lock their doors. On the way, she met Amy and Andrea, and the three of them went to the ammunition room together. Olivia looked at them in a panic.

“Don’t worry,” Maggie reassured her.

"You guys stay here, I'll go to the door to provide backup." Andrea grabbed the guns and ammunition and went out. Although Amy was worried, she still locked the door securely, knowing the importance of guarding the warehouse.

“We need to get outside; the noise at the door has to be stopped,” Lina said to Carol.

“They can’t get in yet,” Carroll said, seeing them throwing projectiles inside, and some people trying to climb over the fence getting electrocuted.

"Thank goodness Eugene..." Lina's expression froze, and after the electric grid emitted a crackling spark, it went offline completely.

"Watch out!" Carol pulled the dazed Lina aside. People outside tentatively climbed over the wall, and then more and more people rushed in from all directions.

“Lina,” Carroll said, hiding behind the bushes as she coldly watched the group.

“I had Carl stay home with the kids, and if things got really bad, we’d lock the house down,” Lina said.

“Good,” Carroll said, pulling out his pistol. “Let’s go.”
