Chapter 294 A Mountain on His Back
Han Xi held a clean bath towel and clothes in her hands. Seeing him standing at the door, unwilling to come in, she gently waved to him.
"Don't worry, I'm just checking your injuries. Also, you have a bit of a smell, so I'll wash your hair for you."
As a mother, I simply couldn't bear to see him go through what he was going through.
Han Chuang then lowered his guard and took off his coat. Han Xi noticed a bone protruding slightly on his back and asked with concern, "What happened? Did my dad hit you?"
Han Chuang shook his head, still unwilling to say such a thing.
Han Xi suppressed her anger and undressed him, smiling as she said, "I need to take pictures of these injuries; they might be useful in the future."
Han Chuang nodded and followed her instructions.
Once he lay down in the warm bathtub, an innocent smile appeared on his face.
"Sister, I haven't taken a bath like this in so long. I thought I'd never have the chance again."
"Fool, you're only a few years old. You'll have many more opportunities in the future."
Han Chuang shook his head and muttered to himself, "I don't think I'll live much longer."
Han Xi looked down at him and asked cautiously, "Why do you say that?"
Tears streamed down Han Chuang's face, and his pitiful appearance struck Han Xi's heart.
Han Xi stroked his head: "Don't think so much. I'm here for you now. If anyone dares to bully you again, I'll definitely teach them a lesson."
Han Chuang's eyes were filled with cries for help, how could Han Xi ignore them?
She was determined to handle this matter, but ultimately there were some things that were beyond her control.
Han Xi originally planned to apply medicine to him, but she was really worried about his current situation. After discussing it with Shen Jiheng, she decided to send him to Hengtian Hospital for a check-up.
In the car, Han Chuang leaned quietly against her. Perhaps because he hadn't felt the company of his family for a long time, he clung to Han Xi.
Han Xi was lost in thought the whole way, and Shen Jiheng rubbed her head.
What are your plans?
Han Xi turned her head, her eyes filled with confusion.
Shen Jiheng pinched her cheek: "If you want to stay and take care of her, that's fine too. I can help you fight for custody."
Han Xi smiled wryly and said, "Don't forget that he has a biological father. I will have a good talk with Ji Qing tomorrow before making a decision."
Shen Jiheng doesn't care about other people's business; as long as it's something Han Xi needs to do, he will always stand by her side.
"I'll support whatever decision you make."
"Thanks!"
Han Xi smiled; it felt really good to have someone by her side.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Han Xi handed him over to the experienced Professor Yang.
"Professor Yang, I would like to trouble you to give him a thorough examination."
"Okay, you'll be in a bit."
Professor Yang was about to take him into the examination room when Han Chuang pulled her hand closer and said, "Sister, you must wait for me. Don't leave like this."
Han Xi nodded firmly: "I promise to wait for you, and I will listen to the doctor's advice. If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, you must tell him."
Han Chuang reluctantly let go, his eyes filled with hesitation and unease.
Only after the examination room door closed did Han Xi reveal a conflicted expression.
Shen Jiheng put his arm around her shoulder. Even a cold and ruthless person like him couldn't remain unmoved in this situation, let alone when the child kept calling her "sister."
Are you alright?
Han Xi covered her mouth, turned around and leaned against his chest, choking back tears as she said, "I saw a lot of scars on him, and it's only been a little over two months. What has he been through?"
Shen Jiheng gently patted her back, comforting her, "I will help you find all these people and deal with them."
Han Xi said sternly, "You don't need to do anything. Just find these people, and I'll handle the rest."
Simply punishing them is too lenient; they must be punished by law to truly deter them.
Shen Jiheng nodded: "I'll listen to you, don't be sad."
Han Xi closed her eyes, needing to calm down. She had to make proper arrangements for Han Chuang's matter.
An hour later, Professor Yang handed all the reports to Han Xi and said solemnly.
"The child has a broken rib, which is likely due to violence. The X-ray shows that the fractured ends broke inward, causing damage to the internal organs, and there has been no repositioning surgery yet."
Han Xi listened with a heavy heart, for she had experienced a similar situation before and knew how painful it was.
But how did Han Chuang, a child not even eight years old, manage to survive until now?
Han Xi said urgently, "Professor Yang, please arrange treatment for him as soon as possible."
Professor Yang nodded: "I've already scheduled it for tomorrow morning. In addition, he has many superficial injuries and two cigarette burns. It's obvious that he has been abused."
Han Xi had already seen it when she dressed him today, but the situation was far more serious than she had imagined.
Shen Jiheng whispered in her ear, "You stay with him for now, I'll go and find out what you want to know."
Han Xi turned his head: "Thanks!"
Shen Jiheng patted her shoulder and left. He needed to find out what Han Xi wanted to know as soon as possible.
Han Xi looked at Professor Yang and said with a heavy heart, "Professor Yang, please take this to heart. This is my younger brother."
A hint of surprise flashed in Professor Yang's eyes. Seeing Han Xi's sincere attitude, he nodded and said, "Of course. Let him rest in the hospital tonight. I will come later to explain the follow-up matters."
After thanking Han Xi, Han Chuang was taken to the ward. He was probably a little weak after having his blood drawn and didn't have the strength to walk.
Han Xi squatted down in front of him: "Come on, I'll carry you on my back."
Han Chuang paused for a few seconds before leaning on her and happily said, "It's so nice to be with you, sister. I wish we could stay like this forever."
Upon hearing this, Han Xi stopped in his tracks, feeling as if a mountain was weighing on his back.
When Shen Jiheng returned in the evening, he was carrying a food box and snacks.
Han Xi asked curiously, "Did you prepare this?"
Shen Jiheng shook his head: "Do I look like that kind of person to you?"
Han Xi smiled and nodded, thinking that it made sense; Shen Jiheng was not the kind of person who would do such a thing.
She opened it and saw that it was a nutritionally balanced children's meal, and couldn't help but ask, "Who prepared such a lavish meal, and it's a children's meal?"
“This was prepared by your maternal grandmother. She said he has to perform surgery every day, and eating well will give him energy.”
Han Xi was stunned. She hadn't had time to discuss bringing Han Chuang back with her grandmother and was worried that her grandmother would be angry. She didn't expect that her grandmother would prepare food for him.
After all, Han Chuang's mother killed the daughter they had been searching for and ultimately sent Ji Qing to prison herself.
Now that Ji Qing's son is right under their noses, they must feel uncomfortable.
This is also why Han Xi could not agree to Han Chuang's request.
Although the grudges of the previous generation have nothing to do with the next, seeing him will definitely remind people of his mother's actions, which led to his current predicament.
Did Grandma say anything else?
She said the child was innocent and told me to handle it myself; she had no objection.
Tears welled up in Han Xi's eyes, but even so, she couldn't disregard her family's feelings and selfishly make a decision.
"Grandma is so tolerant of me. Did you find what I wanted?"
Han Xi's current thought is that it would be best to help Han Chuang find his biological father and send him there, or perhaps find a kind person to adopt him and not keep him around to avoid other problems.
