Can Chapter 59 be ended early?
Rainy days in the south come and go quickly.
Mu Yan sat on the grass, basking in the warm sun, which made him feel drowsy.
He was supposed to be discharged today, and the doctor agreed, but Shang Qiyue insisted that he stay for another day of observation, saying that he had injured his head and needed to see if he would feel dizzy.
Shang Qiyue also stayed at the hospital with him. He said the weather was nice today and he could get some sunshine, so he took Mu Yan downstairs.
He seemed to be busy with work, constantly making phone calls.
The few days he spent in the hospital were the most peaceful period Mu Yan had experienced in the past few months of hectic stress. He spent his days getting checkups, calling and chatting with his family, and watching TV. The hospital food also suited his taste.
For some reason, Shang Qiyue has become less talkative. Although he comes to keep me company every day, he often says less than he used to say in a meal.
When Mu Yan was watching TV or making a phone call, he would put his arm around her and let her lean on him. When Mu Yan was having a checkup, he would wait beside her while making a phone call.
Shang Qiyue even offered to wash his hair, saying he had a wound on the back of his neck and might accidentally get water on it if he washed it himself. Mu Yan hesitated and let him help him. The wound didn't get wet, but he still felt there was some foam left, so he washed it again himself in the end.
Shang Qiyue's assistant has been making numerous trips to the hospital these past few days, so frequently that Mu Yan felt a little guilty, as if he had increased the assistant's workload.
"It's my job to stay here with you," Shang Qiyue said, seeing that he seemed a little embarrassed, trying to reassure him. "This is his job, and his salary is the highest among all my assistants."
Shang Qiyue gave a number, saying that it didn't include the bonus, and Mu Yan's eyes widened in surprise.
Shang Qiyue smiled at him and handed the file folder that Luo Cheng had given him to Mu Yan.
Mu Yan looked at him, somewhat confused. Shang Qiyue urged him to open it, and Mu Yan then realized that it was a property certificate.
"The formalities have been taken care of. It's the same apartment you're living in now, so it's convenient for you to go anywhere."
Mu Yan was a little taken aback and paused for a moment.
“I didn’t mean to insult you with money…” Shang Qiyue saw that Mu Yan didn’t look up and was afraid he would overthink things. “Whoever chose to save me back then, I am very grateful. Gratitude must be expressed in a tangible way, with substantial thanks…”
Mu Yan had just finished looking at the entire property certificate. He was young and hadn't been working for long. This was the first time he had seen a real property certificate, so he wanted to examine it carefully.
He had always wanted to buy his own house in City A, a place he could go back to no matter what happened.
The feeling of suddenly achieving his wish was so strange that he was a little unsure if it was real, so he looked at it again and again.
Hearing Shang Qiyue say that, he finally raised his face: "I don't think you are insulting me. I'm very happy... Thank you. I have always wanted to have my own house in City A."
Mu Yan looked serious, her eyes sparkling; she must be happy. Shang Qiyue breathed a sigh of relief.
"Is there anything else you want? I promise you, whatever you want, I'll get it for you." He looked at Mu Yan with focused eyes.
Mu Yan didn't think about it for long before shaking his head.
Shang Qiyue remained calm: "You can take your time to think about it. I know you don't need to come up with an answer right now. You can tell me whenever you've decided. I'll do anything within my capabilities."
Mu Yan shook his head again.
He really didn't want anything.
Almost all the problems he encountered in his life—his gambling father, his mother's illness, and his brother's job—have been solved by Shang Qiyue.
Mu Yan is not a materialistic person. He wants a house because he wants a place he can go back to anytime, not because he wants real estate for investment.
He really couldn't refuse the job offered to his brother and the VIP hospital room offered to his mother.
After resolving these life's problems, he truly had nothing left to want.
He's actually quite satisfied with his current life. Besides, he's young, capable, has a job, is able-bodied, and has many opportunities to earn a better life for himself.
Apart from.......
Mu Yan didn't think about it anymore. He knew that thinking about it was useless and would only cause him more trouble.
"Is there anywhere you'd like to travel? Never mind," Shang Qiyue quickly dismissed his own suggestion, "I can take you on trips anytime, so just pretend I didn't say anything."
"Is there any celebrity or game developer you'd like to meet?"
Mu Yan smiled and shook his head. He could count the number of celebrities he knew on one hand, and he didn't play games much.
"Or do you like your current job? When I saw your aunt last time, she said you had excellent grades. Would you like to go back to school? I remember that S country really likes students with work experience, and your undergraduate GPA should be pretty good, right?"
Seeing that he didn't immediately refute, Shang Qiyue quickly continued, "I don't know much about this area, but I know people who can write you a letter of recommendation. With your own GPA and work experience, there definitely won't be any problem."
Mu Yan hesitated for only a moment before shaking his head again.
In country S, graduate programs can be one year long, or two or three years long. One-year programs are basically just for "gilding" one's resume, while two or three years are too long for him.
The purpose of getting a gilded diploma is to secure a good job. Mu Yan's current company is already quite good, and if he stays there, the benefits will only get better.
Most importantly, Mu Juanhua is here, and he can't leave City A.
"Then think about it some more. I'll have Luo Cheng pick you up from the hospital tomorrow. It's okay, take your time to think it over." Shang Qiyue reached out and ruffled his hair. "You should get your hair cut. I'll take you to get it done next time."
Having spent almost every moment together these past few days, Mu Yan momentarily forgot that Shang Qiyue was also a very busy person with a company to manage.
These past few days have already taken up a lot of my time, and I'm being discharged tomorrow, so there's really no need for him to come pick me up in person.
Mu Yan suppressed the slight disappointment that inexplicably surfaced in her heart, smiled, and replied with an "okay."
The next day, Luo Cheng completed all the discharge procedures ahead of schedule, picked up the few belongings Mu Yan had already packed, and helped him to the car.
Mu Yan blushed slightly and said there was no need to help him up; he was fully recovered and had stayed in the hospital for a few more days.
Luo Cheng smiled, withdrew his hand, and walked side by side with him into the elevator. Luo Cheng had high emotional intelligence and always knew exactly how to make people feel comfortable in his interactions.
He didn't mention Shang Qiyue to Mu Yan along the way, but just played the car radio and chatted casually with Mu Yan about the gossip about the wealthy family in Country A that was being discussed on the radio.
Mu Yan doesn't usually pay much attention to these things, but almost everyone can talk about such anecdotes and gossip. He finds it interesting to listen to a few words when he's free, and they quickly become closer.
Luo Cheng hadn't told Mu Yan that Shang Qiyue was cooking for him at home, so when Mu Yan opened the door and smelled the aroma of the food, he was almost stunned.
Steam rose from the dining table. Shang Qiyue stood in front of the gas stove, turned around, and smiled at him.
In Mu Yan's memory, Shang Qiyue should have been completely unable to cook.
"To celebrate your discharge from the hospital today. I made all of this meal myself... I bought the salt-baked chicken and braised duck myself, and I steamed the crabs myself..." Shang Qi felt something was off as he spoke. Hadn't he been busy all afternoon? How come this was all ready-made?
There was also a plate of sauerkraut fish in the pot, which seemed to have been made by having someone slice the black carp into pieces and then using a seasoning packet.
"This scrambled eggs with tomatoes was made by myself, starting from cutting the tomatoes." Shang Qiyue finally found the only thing on the table that could be called homemade. "How about it, have a taste."
Mu Yan smiled, walked over and gave him a serious hug: "You haven't eaten yet, how can you let the person who cooked eat leftovers?"
Shang Qiyue smiled and gently buried her head in his neck: "It's good that you're alright..."
"I'm fine now," Mu Yan smiled. "It smells so good. You must have had a long day."
Mu Yan ate very slowly today. Although the hospital food is good, it is made with little oil and salt in order to take care of the patients. After eating it for so many days, he started to miss the flavorful food.
The cooked food was bought by Shang Qiyue from the two shops they ate at most, so it was naturally delicious.
The crabs were of the highest quality, with a naturally delicious flavor. Even if Shang Qiyue was lazy, he couldn't possibly not know how to steam crabs.
Although the scrambled eggs with tomatoes seemed to have a bit too much sugar, the food here is usually on the sweeter side, and Mu Yan ate a lot of it.
Shang Qiyue was extremely satisfied to see that the dishes he had prepared were quite popular.
After finishing the meal, Mu Yan took the initiative to clear the dishes.
The water splashed loudly, and the sound of the bowls colliding was crisp and clear.
Shang Qiyue hugged him from behind, his arms encircling his waist, his chin resting on his shoulder.
"The water will splash on you," Mu Yan whispered a reminder.
"Have you thought about the request I asked you to make?" Shang Qiyue asked.
Mu Yan quickly shook his head.
"The apartment my husband gave me, and the meal he cooked for me today, have already made me very happy. Whether it's material gratitude or the sentimental gesture, it's more than enough..."
“Not enough.” Shang Qiyue said seriously, “I promised you that I would find whatever you need.”
"Whether it's heaven or earth, just tell me, and I'll give it to you."
Mu Yan slowed down.
He was silent for a few seconds, then asked in a low voice, "Really...anything?"
Shang Qiyue nodded, her voice close to his neck: "Yes, anything is fine... Have you thought it through?"
The kitchen suddenly fell silent, with only the sound of running water remaining.
Mu Yan paused for a long time, and Shang Qiyue was getting a little anxious, thinking that he was used to being like that and was embarrassed to ask him for things.
He tilted his head and nibbled on Mu Yan's earlobe: "I'm not some nobody. It's only natural for you to spend my money and use my things. You can do whatever you want, don't be shy about saying so."
Mu Yan's earlobe turned completely red after being bitten, as if it were about to bleed.
He lowered his head, his voice so low it was almost inaudible.
"Can our relationship... end sooner rather than later?"
Shang Qiyue's hand froze for a few seconds before he slowly released him.
"What did you say?"
Mu Yan didn't turn around, but gently placed the last bowl into the drain rack.
